Bluray round-up

Lots of updates for the TNG and Enterprise blurays. But first a quick mention that my The Best of Both Worlds screening competition has now closed. Congratulations to those of you who won tickets, and thanks again to Fathom Events for sponsoring the competition. If you weren't lucky enough to win tickets, it's not too late to get some the normal way - See Fathom Event's page for this event for US listings, and Cineplex to see it in Canada.

The release of TNG season three, and The Best of Both Worlds, is just a couple of weeks away. At the recent Wondercon convention the bluray panel revealed one more extra feature; along side The Most Toys will be footage of David Rappaport in the role of Kivas Fajo, who shot some footage before being replaced by Saul Rubinek, after the former attempted to commit suicide. Robert Meyer Burnett and Roger Lay, Jr. have edited this lost footage, to recreate the scenes shot of Rappaport, giving a look his alternate take on the character. TrekCore released this image from the footage:

TrekCore also reported on some rather annoying additional extra features, which are being released as online retailer exclusives thanks to a partnership with Best Buy in the US. If you're lucky enough to live in Germany all sets come with a code to access these new features too. The first example of this came with the recently released Enterprise, season one set, with an addition feature called Shuttlepod One: Declassified, which included interviews with co-writer Brannon Braga, director David Livingston, and actors Connor Trinneer, and Dominic Keating, as well as a visit to the Shuttlepod prop which is now owned by a fan.

The TNG season three blurays will have a similar feature, set to feature the early CGI tests done for TNG when they were considering doing all the effects in CGI. Something I find incredibly frustrating as that was a bit of footage I was really looking forward to seeing! These additional features would apparently not exist without the sponsorship of Best Buy, but it is extremely annoying for those of us who do not even have the option to choose to buy from this retailer. It also seems a bit short-termist to have these things accessible online only - It will surely only be a matter of time until even those people who have been able to buy from Best Buy wont be able to access these extras when the website gets pulled some time down the line.

On the subject of localised exclusives, Amazon.de have revealed their steelbook version of TNG season three, which comes with the Romulan emblem, in the series of badges that comes with these steelbook versions of the sets:

CBS have also released two new trailers for TNG season 3 and The Best of Both Worlds. Have a watch:

Finally, looking ahead to Enterprise, season two, Brannon Braga tweeted this images from the recording of a cast reunion being filmed, which he moderated:

Robert Meyer Burnett also tweeted noting Jeffrey Combs (Shran) was also part of the reunion. Should be good!
