New back-cover previews for the 2022 Star Trek calendars

Star Trek calendar publisher Universe Publishing has release the back cover images for their 2022 range. Next year there will be six different Star Trek calendars to choose from, and now we can get a little look inside each of them care of the back cover previews. Continue below to check them out:

The long-running Ships of the Line(ad) series is the only calendar which gets new artwork each year, lovely wide-format starship art - Essentially a starship art magazine with a small calendar overlay.

This year marks the first Star Trek Online art to feature in the series, alongside lots of TOS and TNG ships, and a little love for DS9 too. Several images feature new starship designs, and there's a new cutaway diagram too. Check out the thumbnails on the back cover:

First look at 2022 Star Trek calendars

We might be less than a month into this year, but Universe Publishing have already set their sights on 2022, and revealed no less than seven Star Trek calendars(ad) ready for next year! All the calendar series that been offered for 2021 are set to continue next year, joined by the surprise resurrection of a classic series. Continue below to check out the range.

First up, the eternal highlight of the calendar range, Ships of the Line(ad); the starship art calendar, which is presented in landscape format with a pretty minimal actual calendar.

2021 Star Trek calendar line-up revealed

We may barely be into 2020, but it's already time to start musing on what calendar you want for next year! The 2021 Star Trek calendar line-up has been revealed, with, so far, eight different designs on the way. Those include the return of familiar calendar formats and themes we've had for many years, plus some new options for next year.

Though do note the images below almost certainly do not represent the final product in at least some cases, with previously used artwork being used as a stand-in here until the publishers are ready to show off new imagery at a later date. They do at least give us a flavour of what to expect.

So first up, the US releases, from Universe Publishing, who have six different designs on the way. Those include a new Star Trek Cats calendar. We have had a couple of Star Trek Cats calendars before, from Chronicle Books (who published the books they are based on), in 2018 and 2019, each focusing solely on TOS and TNG respectively. With Universe taking the reins this time the new calendar includes artwork from both eras.

Ships of the Line 2020 preview

With the recent reveal of the 2020 Star Trek calendar range, there was one calendar awaiting finalised artwork, my personal favourite every year, Ships of the Line. Well fear not starship fans, distributors Andrews McMeel Publishing have updated there listings to reveal both covers and some interior previews. Continue below to check them out:

2020 Star Trek calendar line-up revealed

The Star Trek calendar ranges for 2020 from both US publisher Universe Publishing and Germany Heye have been announced, offering a selection of eight different designs to choose from. Continue below to check them out.

Perhaps this year's most unique calendar is 2020 16 Month Engagement Calendar. This format has seen a fresh new look every year for several years now, and this year they have got quite creative with a fully bilingual Klingon calendar! As you can see from the preview pages below, not only have they translated absolutely everything, but they've also gone to town with Klingon design inspired by the unique triangular based monitor designs often seen used by Klingons. The description also suggests this will encompass Klingons from all the live action TV series.

For the first time in Klingon and English, Star Trek 16-Month Klingon Engagement Calendar for 2020 features full-color photos from every live action Star Trek television show.

With text in both Klingon and English, and featuring more than 40 fan-favorite images from across the franchise's six live action television shows, this 16-month engagement-style calendar will captivate casual fans and die-hard Trekkers alike.

New Starships Collection bonus issues revealed

Eaglemoss, via their Hero Collector blog, have announced no less than six new bonus issues coming to The Official Starships Collection. Sighting the success of the release of USS Titan and USS Aventine (good work team!), Eaglemoss have committed to a wide-ranging series of further obscure ships, which come from a variety of sources, including non-canon origins, concept art, and variants. They expect the six new ships to arrive over this year and 2019. Continue below to check them out:

Perhaps the least surprising and one of the most requested ships (at least as far as I've seen), is the USS Enterprise-F. The design was created for the video game Star Trek Online, following a competition to bring the design to life, which was won by Adam Ilhe. As one of the most prominent non-canon designs, it seemed almost inevitable we'd get this one eventually after the Titan and Aventine were released.

2019 Star Trek calendar range revealed

Universe Publishing have revealed their line-up of Star Trek calendars for 2019, which features six different designs, continuing every format they offered for this year. Continue below to check out what is on offer.

Now one should note off the bat, that these are very early listings, and the artwork for at least some of them will certainly change before their release later in the year.

That could not be more true than for the Ships of the Line calendar. The latest in the long-running series, this calendar will feature loads of brand-new starship artwork, in panoramic format - For now though the interior previews are re-using images from this year's edition to illustrate the style. The cover image currently in use, featuring a visit from the Enterprise-E to the new Deep Space 9, doesn't seem familiar to me though, but lacking a spacey background I suspect it is also a stand-in.

Help decide the next Eaglemoss ships, plus high res photos of new and forthcoming Starships Collection releases

Lots of Eaglemoss updates today, including news and images of Discovery ships, and future Eaglemoss publications. But starting with a chance for us to help decide what comes next in The Official Starships Collection.

USS Titan and USS Aventine, by Nils Walter

Following the glorious sell-out success of the USS Titan and USS Aventine, two ships from the Star Trek novels released as Starships Collection bonus issues (brought to the collection at least in part thanks to demand demonstrated by petitions started right here on The Trek Collective), Eaglemoss have launched a survey so that we can help pick further ships to be released as bonuses.

There are seven ships to choose from, hailing from quite a variety of backgrounds:

• The SS Bonaventure from TAS.
• USS Bonaventure from the Ships of the Line calendar.
• USS Enterprise-F from Star Trek Online.
• Klingon D4 class designed by John Eaves for Enterprise (and seen in Ships of the Line since).
• USS Enterprise-D with saucer separation.
• Assimilated version of USS Voyager.
• USS Altair, a Doug Drexler concept ship which has also appeared in Ships of the Line, but dates back to being a concept for Voyager.

Danilo's 2018 Star Trek calendars, including glorious Gold Key calendar

UK Star Trek calendar publisher Danilo have got three calendars out this year, featurings TOS, ships, and Discovery. Continue below for previews of them all.

Danilo don't publish a TOS calendar every year, but have done some before, and previous releases, like their US counterparts, have generally been pretty familiar TOS photos and screencaps. But this year they've gone an entirely different and totally delightful route, with an entire calendar of Gold Key Comics cover art! I hope this does well, as there's great potential in it continuing as a series, using Gold Key again, or art from hundreds of other Star Trek comics over the years.

Ship bits: Eaglemoss concept Ambassador class, Fansets Discovery pin, and Mark Rademaker art

Some assorted starship bits and pieces for you today, starting with the latest from Eaglemoss: Ben Robinson has shared the following images on Twitter, of the forthcoming Starships Collection bonus issue concept art Ambassador class. This is based on Andrew Probert's original concept for the Enterprise-C, and that is the name of the ship we will get when this is released, although pictured here is a one-of-a-kind USS Ambassador version (I'd rather prefer the Ambassador myself, so it could sit among the fleet as the actual prototype of the class, oh well):

Round 2 Models latest Star Trek model kits

Round 2 Models, makers of Star Trek model kits under the AMT and Polar Lights brands, has had a busy year of releases, and already has several kits lined up for 2017. Continue below to check out their latest and forthcoming kits.

Expected in the spring of 2017, all the Enterprises from the 1:2500 scale Cadet Series range have been combined into a single new model kit collection, which will also add a brand new Enterprise NX-01 to the series. The snap-kits are all molded in suitably coloured plastics, and come with pressure sensitive decal sheets, plus display stands.

Loads of new ships announced and other Starships Collection news

At this weekend's Star Trek Mission: New York convention Eaglemoss ran a panel on Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection, in which series manager Ben Robinson announced loads of new ships,and other news. Continue below for a round-up of what we learnt:

The big news is that once again the collection has been granted an extension, and will now run for at least 130 issues (plus specials and other additional issues), which is almost twice the originally planned 70 issue run!

Ben announced a whole load of new ships during the panel, but by far the most exciting to me was confirmation that the USS Titan issue will be coming, off the back of the petition to find support for it championed right here on The Trek Collective. And better yet, Ben also confirmed the USS Aventine will be released too! Both ships are due out in 2017.

2017 Star Trek calendars revealed

You will have no shortage of Star Trek calendars to choose from for 2017, with no less than six designs from US publisher Universe Publishing alone (there are normally also a couple of UK designs, and sometimes others too). Amazon have posted the first details of the range, with what I am sure is not final art, but probably indicative of the formats once all the artwork is finalised, which we should start to see later in the year.

The most notable of the six is an entirely new Star Trek calendar for 2017, the Poster Calendar, which, despite only have twelve pages,  is intriguingly titled 50 Artists. 50 Years. I am very curious about that title; if it is just twelve images in this publication, might this be just the calendar version of a larger 50 Artists. 50 Years. project? Or maybe the start of a multi-year series of calendars? Hopefully more details about this won't take too long to arise. Here's the official description, which includes some of the notable contributing artists:

Ships of the Line playing cards and puzzles!

The Ships of the Line brand has found itself another home, in the latest offerings from Aquarius. Due out this month, a selection of art from the calendar series will be featured on a new set of playing cards:

Then coming in August there are two Ships of the Line jigsaw puzzles, featuring the fleets of Federation and alien ships originally used as the front and back covers of the first Ships of the Line book.

Ships of the Line model kits on the way

Due out next month, Round 2 Models have announced a new range of Ships of the Line branded model kits! There will be four 1:2500 scale kits on offer, the TOS USS Enterprise, USS Reliant, USS Defiant, and Klingon D7. All the kits have previously been released as part of the Cadet Series range, but this time they come pre-painted, and as they are snap together kits too they'll be a quick way to build your own ships.

Each kit comes individually packaged, and is accompanied by a wide-format trading card, featuring related artwork from the Ships of the Line calendar series. The kits will be shipped in cases of twelve, with the Enterprise and Reliant being more common, with four of each in each case, while there will be two per case of the Defiant and D7s. So far only the Reliant has been previewed (image via Tower Hobbies).

Also new from Round 2 Models is their re-issue of the AMT USS Enterprise cutaway model kit. This 1:537 scale kit was first released a couple of decades ago, and the new release comes with an expanded decal sheet, a base, and a new box art (which you can check out after the jump, via Monsters in Motion):

Complete 2016 Ships of the Line line-up revealed

Last month the covers were released for the 2016 Ships of the Line calendar, but unusually the back cover did not showcase all the images within. Well now that has been amended, as Amazon have now posted a new back cover featuring all thirteen images, and revealing all the artists who won a place in the calendar, following the new competition submission process for this edition.

Ships of the Line and other 2016 calendar updates

Universe Publishing have released updated covered and new preview images for some of their 2016 Star Trek calendars. The biggest reveals come from Ships of the Line, with new front and back covers revealing some (but not all) of the competition winning designs that will feature in next year's calendar:

If you can't quite make out what you're seeing on the back there, I believe we have:

• The Insignia class, one of my favourite fan designs (inspired, I believe, by one of the proposals for a next generation starship in the TNG Technical Manual), which I'm delighted to see in an official publication.
• What appears to be a meeting of the TV era TOS Enterprise and the Enterprise-C.
• An Argo-type shuttle on the way to the Enterprise-E.
• The Enterprise-D, with the big shuttlebay open (same image as the cover).
• A refit Constitution class ship next to a spacedock, possibly with a pre-refit inside said dock (I can't quite make it out).
• Another pre-refit Enterprise in spacedock, this time seen from within the dock, and with a classic shuttle flying by.
• A new TOS-era ship, with a similar configuration to the USS Kelvin.

Ships of the Line poster collection on the way!

I hope you've got a lot of wall space starship fans, because Universe Publishing have got a real treat on the way! Coming in October is Star Trek: Ships of the Line Posters, a collection of twenty-four poster prints of artwork from the Ships of the Line calendar series. Here is the cover and blurb:

2016 Star Trek calendar range revealed!

Forget 2015, Star Trek has always got eyes on the future; so you'll be glad to know Universe Publishing has revealed (via Amazon listings) its 2016 Star Trek calendar range already! All four of the regular calendars from the past few years will be continuing. But joining them this year will be a fifth format! Ships of the Line is being expanded into a sixteen month calendar poster featuring the ship-tastic cover artwork from the first Ships of the Line book.

Celebrate being a Trekker in a big way with the Star Trek 2015-2016 Calendar Poster.

Available for the first time, this 21 x 15" single-sheet poster of the most iconic Federation ships is complemented by a 16-month calendar, and features art by fan-favorite Doug Drexler.

All five designs will be available form August. Continue after the jump to check out the rest. But do bare in mind these are early listings and the designs will almost certainly change before publication, which I will of course report on when they updated.

Case in point, Ships of the Line 2016 as pictured here reuses the USS Onimaru from the 2014 calendar as the cover, and sample pictures supplied are from the 2014 and 2013 calendars. Plus of course we're expecting this year's range of images to come from winners of the Ships of the Line competition, which hopefully will have supplied some creative new takes on starship art.

Ships of the Line brought to life

To mark the release of the new updated and expanded Ships of the Line book, the co-editor, artist, and all round starship-tastic guy, Doug Drexler, has released an updated and expanded version of the Ships of the Line: Active Duty video.
