Round 2 Model's Discovery model kit updates, and many reissues

Round 2 Models are zipping through their promised collection of Discovery starship model kits, with two already out, and a third coming soon. Continue below to check them all out, as well as details of reissues of Round 2 and Revell ships from other series:

The third Discovery kit will be the USS Enterprise, which like the previous Disco kits will be a 1:2500 scale model. The new box art for this has just started showing up with retailers; Entertainment Earth are expecting it as soon as next month!

New images of Revell's nuTrek USS Enterprise model kit

Revell have updated their listing for their latest Star Trek model kit, the nuTrek USS Enterprise. They have released several new images, giving us a good look at some of the details on their rendition of the ship:

This model kit is officially released in the German market, but it already seems to have been picked up in other countries - There are for instance, secondary sellers with listings for it on Amazon in the UK, France, and Japan (and several of them offer international shipping options).

New images of Revell's nuTrek USS Enterprise model kit

Due out next month is the latest Star Trek model kit from Revell in Germany, the first kit release of the nuTrek USS Enterprise. Sci-fi Pulse have released these new images, giving us a look at the box art, and a finished painted version of the model:

Revell list the following as features of the kit:
- Newly developed construction kit
- Large scale, two-piece Saucer Section
- Separate command bridge
- Multi-part deflector and sensor
- Large-scale, two-piece secondary hull
- Multi-part nacelles with separate pylons
- Many transparent parts, including Bussard collectors and navigation lights
- Display stand
- Kit suitable for the addition of lighting (equipment not included)
- Detailed instructions with tips for painting
- Extensive set of decals for the Enterprise
The kit is currently only meant to be available to the European market. However I'm sure with a bit of help from the internet you'll be able to track down one wherever you may reside.

Toy Fair round up

Last weekend's Toy Fair delivered an abundance of Star Trek news, here's a round up of all my reports:

Hasbro
Two new lines were announced by the primary Star Trek Into Darkness toy licensor:

Star Trek Kre-O sets will give us Lego-like Star Trek construction sets (which we've only had once before, in the form of a Mega Bloks Enterprise-D). Hasbro's first wave includes sets based on Into Darkness, ranging from the large USS Enterprise playset, to a small airlock set. There will also be miniature starship models from the 2009 film, and an assortment on nuTrek "kreon" minifigures released in blind bags. Further waves of kreons are planned which will introduce prime characters to the mix as well. I did two reports on the Kre-O sets; one looking at the official images released by Hasbro; and one looking at the sets on display at Toy Fair, which gave us some additional angles, and a look at the box art.

Hasbro's other Trek line is Star Trek Fighter Pods, which give us caricatured versions of characters from both nuTrek films, along side an equally caricatured USS Enterprise playset, "attack pod" figure launchers, and various assortments of figures including blind bags again. This will be the first time Hasbro has expanded their Fighter Pods brand outside their popular Star Wars version. The Star Trek edition will include the first ever toy versions of many nuTrek characters and alien races. You can read about all the different Star Trek Fighter Pod releases in my report on the range.

Despite the rather grown up take on Star Trek that Into Darkness appears to be, both Hasbro's toy lines seem to be aimed at decidedly younger audiences. These two quirkier takes on Star Trek look like all we'll be getting from Hasbro too; no regular action figures, props, or toy ships - Perhaps not that surprising given the poor performance of Playmates wide ranging selection of toys released for the first film.

Hot Wheels
Mattel had a small selection of Star Trek goodies on display, in the form of their new additions to their Star Trek Hot Wheels starships collection. This series is set to include the first (accurate) model of the USS Kelvin, the USS Excelsior, a re-release of their Narada model, and a new design from Into Darkness (although that latter one wasn't on display). You can see the range in my report.

Diamond Select Toys
Despite only recently having announced a whole range of Star Trek stuff in the pipeline, DST were still able to show off some new stuff at the Toy Fair; including the latest additions to their Star Trek Minimates collection, plans for their next Star Trek Select figure, a Spock money box, and a better look at their forthcoming USS Enterprise cross-section model. You can see them all, in my report.

Underground Toys
Newish Trek licensor Underground Toys announced a big new range of Star Trek watches and clocks. StarTrek.com released official images of these, so I looked at those in my report. But if you're curious Action Figure Insider has an image of their Star Trek display at the Toy Fair.

NECA
NECA's Toy Fair press release announced the latest addition to their Tactics game in the Star Trek Heroclix range, while on display at the event was their new Star Trek Into Darkness Connect With Pieces puzzle/game. You can read about that, in my report on it.

Bif Bang Pow
I've not mentioned these yet, so in addition to the round-up, here's new news from Bif Bang Pow of a series of TNG bobble heads. They had a mock-up on display, showing plans to do all the main characters (image via Figures.com):

Revell
Finally, not at the New York Toy Fair, but a couple of weeks ago at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, Revell were showing off the latest addition to their range of Star Trek model kits, the nuTrek USS Enterprise. You can read about that from my report at the time. Or check out this extra image (via Hobby Media) which gives us a better view of the top of the ship:

First look at Revell's new USS Enterprise model kit.

Revell have been showing off their latest Star Trek model kit, the new timeline USS Enterprise, at the recent Nuremberg Toy Fair:

As you can see, the previously released CGI rendering has formed the basis of their box art, which also reveals the size of their model; 588mm long - At their claimed scale of 1:500 that makes their Enterprise the equivalent of a little under 300m long, about the same size as the original Enterprise, rather than the gigantic size that details such as the shuttle bay actually make the new version of the ship. Here's how one of the bluray extra features compares the two designs:

Revell's new USS Enterprise is due out in Germany in May, to coincide with the release of Star Trek Into Darkness.

New-movie USS Enterprise model kit coming from Revell

The German arm of the model kit makers Revell have today announced a wide range of new model kits coming out in the first half of this year, including one new Star Trek kit; the new movieverse USS Enterprise. They are planning to release it at 1:500 scale in May, alongside the release of Star Trek Into Darkness.

Revell in Germany have previously released three Voyager kits (USS Voyager, Maquis raider, and Kazon fighter), which they re-released in 2009 to capitalise on the Trek hype around the last film. Those apparently did well enough to prompt Revell to expand their range with two new kits, a TOS USS Enterprise and Klingon D7, which came out about a year ago.

The cancelled Polar Lights nuEnterprise kit
All of these sets are not widely distributed outside of Germany, so if you want a new-Enterprise kit in other parts of the world you might have to put some effort into your shopping. I would imagine this is because Round 2 Models are busy producing model kits for the US market, so the licenses probably don't allow foreign distribution. Round 2 did of course announce their own version of the new-Enterprise, shortly after the first film was released, but unfortunately cancelled work on it some time later. They did release some attractive box art at least.

Project Cutaway: USS Enterprise

While trying to find box art for Revell's recently released TOS Enterprise and Klingon D7 model kits (see later in article) I came across something far more intriguing. This poster, displayed at a Germany modelling event in February:

A new Star Trek cutaway model? The TOS Enterprise has been done before by AMT, but that's still intriguing. Project Cutaway is a range of cutaway models from Dragon Models, which has just launched, and will include aircraft, real world spacecraft and even architectural monuments such as the Coliseum. You can see various examples on Dragon's website, including the first model in the range, a 747:

Looks quite cool to me, and also done differently the the previous AMT cutaway Enterprise. So I hope this is still coming some time.

I did also manage to find the box art I was originally looking for, though it is disappointingly unspectacular:

Revell's new TOS model kits

StarTrek.com have posted an article on Revell's forthcoming new TOS model kits, of the USS Enteprise and Klingon D7. The kits will be available in Europe from October, and have apparently come about due to the popularity of a re-release of Revell's Voyager kits when the new movie came out. Here's what the new kits look like:
