With this collection you can revisit all the classic characters and incredible art from the STAR TREK comic archives. Every edition has a specially-commissioned introduction to provide context to the story. Every book contains a number of collected comics and a bonus reprint of one of the comic archive’s classic stories.I expect that description, from their website, indicates this Star Trek collection will follow a similar format to Eaglemoss' DC collection, in which each issue includes a big multi-issue story, plus an extra issue drawn from somewhere else in the comic series. That would certainly be a pretty good way to delivery the many single issue Star Trek comics, while also giving each book a big story to focus on.

Comic panels: Latest from New Visions, City on the Edge of Forever, and more
Some Star Trek comics news for you, starting with the latest updates from John Bryne on his New Visions photo-comic series. Talking on his forums Byrne recently outlined his progress on the series:
Flickring Myth recently posted an interview with the series' writer, Scott Tipton, and artist, J.K. Woodward. Both discussed some of their favourite scenes in the adaptation (Woodward and Tipton respectively here):
So far, with seven stories complete, and an eighth started, I had two direct sequels, one "follow up" that is not strictly a sequel, two returning characters (same story), again not a sequel. He also posted another preview panel, this time using parts of a real world location to expand the possible backdrops for the series:
Two of the stories presently in the planning stages contain elements from previous episodes, but are, again, not direct sequels.
Here's a little sneak peek at something from the finished lead story for the fourth issue. A combination of modeling and heavily manipulated "location shooting."The second issue in the series, Time's Echo, is due out in August. Meanwhile IDW's adaptation of Harlan Ellison's original teleplay for City on the Edge of Forever is now underway. Chris Ryall posted the variant cover for the second printing of the first issue, a red version of the Juan Ortiz cover.
Flickring Myth recently posted an interview with the series' writer, Scott Tipton, and artist, J.K. Woodward. Both discussed some of their favourite scenes in the adaptation (Woodward and Tipton respectively here):
Harlan is a very visual writer and he constructs some fantastic visuals in his stories. LeBeque’s hallucination in issue 1, the guardians and their planet, the city itself, Kirk and Spock’s trip through the time vortex are all really fun scenes, but I think the most fun I had was the fight scene in the transporter room that begins issue 2. Wow! what a thrill! and quite time intensive.
There’s a scene coming up in issue 4, I believe, that’s just a conversation between Kirk and Spock that really illustrates the struggle Kirk is going through, It’s some of my favorite writing of Harlan’s and it was cut from the filmed episode, so seeing that on the page will be quite a thrill.Tipton also talked about an idea for a follow up to the TNG/Doctor Who crossover. Alas IDW don't have the Doctor Who license any more, so it's not as likely to happen now, but we can dream:
...the idea I always wanted to do was a body switch story between Q and The Doctor where Q would find himself trapped in the Doctor’s body and the Doctor was suddenly part of the Q continuum. Q would see the TARDIS, as great a force as it is, as limiting and we could learn a great deal more about what it means to be a Time Lord from that. The Doctor could show us just what it means to be part of the continuum as well, the responsibility, the dangers, the laws(are there any) and the struggle to even comprehend the limitless. I always thought that would be a great character story for both.Continue after the jump for a look at some of the latest unofficial comics:

Comic bits: nuTrek, photo-comics, and Doctor Who
A few bits of Star Trek comics news. Starting with Joe Corroney's latest art previews. The artist will be returning to the nuTrek ongoing series in May and June with the two-part story, Lost Apollo. So I presume these pages, which Corroney shared on his Facebook page, are form those issues:
Meanwhile John Byrne has been posting more previews and teases on his forums, of his work on his new ongoing photo-comic series, New Visions. One story Byrne is developing will be, in the tradition of many a TOS episode, featuring a robot. Byrne posted this image, which is an earlier design he is using as a stand-in for now:

One story Byrne is developing will be, in the tradition of many a TOS episode, featuring a robot. Byrne posted this image, which is an earlier design he is using as a stand-in for now:
The robot in this image is mostly a place holder. I designed "him" for an entirely different series, about ten years ago, and would like to tinker with the elements a bit before committing him to a TREK story. I want to keep the pipe-like arms and legs, but I'd prefer the overall design to be slightly less whimsical.Continue after the jump for more from Byrne, and a look at IDW Limited's latest deluxe release:

Comic bits: Eugenics Wars, photo-comic, and new covers
A few bits of comics news, starting with the latest comments from Mike Johnson on the Khan prequel series: The IDW Tumblr posted an interview, which included this note of how the Eugenics Wars will be presented in relation to real history, in comparison to Greg Cox's Eugenics Wars books:
Finally, here are the latest omnibus covers (after the jump):
I’m a fan of that series, but in developing this new one we wanted to stick to what is canon, which is what is on film and TV, and create a new story based on that. The biggest difference is that we wanted the Eugenics Wars to be known to the public in the 1990’s, rather than allow the possibility that they happened without anyone knowing in our own ‘90s.You can read the rest of the interview, here. IDW's editor-in-chief, Chris Ryall, also has a Tumblr, and that's where he posted these preview pages from John Byrne's forthcoming photo-comic (the first in a series if it goes well):

IDW November comics, and other comic bits
IDW have released their November solicitations, which include two new Star Trek titles, and an omnibus. Continue down the page for the covers and blurbs for those. But first, some other comics news:
J.K. Woodward tweeted the follow preview of image of an AMAZING wrap-around cover for the forthcoming Assimilation2 hardcover omnibus (the complete TNG/Doctor Who crossover series):
Slightly confusingly, that omnibus already had new cover art released, by the Sharp Brothers, maybe their single page design is for the title page?
Amazon have recently added a listing for another omnibus on the way from IDW. Due in December is, Who Killed Captain Kirk?, the fifth book in their Classics series. Like previous books in the series, this appears to be a straight copy of a previous release; in this case DC Comics' 1993 omnibus which contained a seven-issue run from the end of DC's first TOS series. Currently the new version is sporting the same cover art work as the original, with the Classics banner added on top, which is also consistent with other books in the series.
Which concludes the other news, so, November's Star Trek comics:
Star Trek (ongoing) #27
Written by Mike Johnson. Art by Erfan Fajar. Covers by Erfan Fajar, Garrie Gastonny, plus sketch and photo covers.
Khan #2
Written by Mike Johnson. Art by Claudia Balboni. Cover by Paul Shipper, or a photo-cover.
This issue will also be issued with a blank cover, as part of IDW's Artist's Edition Month. I presume the following sketched cover released with the solicitations is meant to represent that:
Star Trek, Volume 6: After Darkness
Written by Mike Johnson. Art by Erfan Fajar, and Claudia Balboni. Cover by Tim Bradstreet.

Comics bits: Deadly alliances, hot stuff, and Khan
A few bits of comics news: Starting with J.K. Woodward's latest Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover art, which will be available with super exclusive IDW Limited releases of the Assimilation2 crossover series. Woodward posted some of the artwork he has been making, on his blog, including new images such as the latest encounter with the scarily forgettable Silence-Borg, and what is surely the the super cute deadly alliance at the center of the next crossover series:
Out last week was the latest issue in the ongoing series, After Darkness, Part Three. Here's the cover, and a three page preview (via Comixology), which sees some exciting Vulcan action in a volcano:
Amazon have now added a cover for the After Darkness omnibus, which will contain the three-part After Darkness story, and the forthcoming Gorn one-shot. As one might expect it appears they'll be using the cover art from the first issue in the omnibus.
In other cover news, Paul Shipper, who is doing the covers for the forthcoming Khan prequel series, has posted his artwork for the first issue. Below is the cover for the first issue, without the titles, if you make your way to his portfolio you can see all the elements he used to create this:

More Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who crossovers
Things From Another World have added listing for another T-shirt in the Star Trek/The Big Bang Theory crossover range. The Big Bang Theory gang are pictured in Starfleet uniforms once again, and this time the girls get to join the crew too. In a very cool touch, the title The Big Bang Theory is using the Gold Key Comics Star Trek font!
Funko have also revealed more Star Trek/The Big Bang Theory crossover toys (following on from their Wacky Wobblers). Their new line of Mystery Mini figurines feature The Big Bang Theory characters, at least one each of the main characters, plus many variants of Sheldon. All the boys also have a Starfleet uniform variant. Here's the entire series (image via Toyark, where you can also see the packaging for these):
The Big Bang Theory isn't the only franchise getting the Star Trek crossover treatment. Entertainment Earth has also announced a second Star Trek crossover monitor mates and lunch tin set, which like the previously announced Twilight Zone crossover, will be a San Diego Comic Con exclusive. This time they are using artwork from the TNG/Doctor Who crossover comic Assimilation2, to decorate the lunch tin, while the monitor mates will be the TARDIS and the Enterprise-D. For some reason only the TARDIS will actually come with the tin; you have to send off to get the Enterprise-D.

More J.K. Woodward Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover art
Last week I posted some of the awesome artwork J.K. Woodward has been working on, to be included in IDW Limited editions of the TNG/Doctor Who crossover comic, Assimilation2, specifically for the second omnibus of the series. Now Woodward has posted colour versions of several of those pieces on Twitter; there are some fantastic pieces, I've picked a few of my favourites, but you can see a lot more on Woodward's Twitter:
Make sure to scroll a good way into Woodward's Twitter gallery too, I didn't go far enough last time, and missed out on finding a load of art he had done for the Volume One book as well. So here are a few of my favourites form that selection too!

Universes collide in so many Trek crossovers!
Crossovers just keep coming to the Star Trek universe. It seems the TNG/Doctor Who crossover, Assimilation2 is next in line to get the deluxe treatment from IDW Limited. The series artist, J.K. Woodward, has been tweeting unique artwork he has been working on, to be included in the higher end versions of IDW Limited's edition of Assimilation2, Volume 2. He says he is working on one-hundred-and-thirty of these one of a kind pieces of art, which include Doctor Who aliens assimilated by the Borg, Star Trek characters being converted by the Cybermen, mirror universe doctors, and all sorts of other creative crossovers. Here are just a few of my favourites, check out Woodwards Twitter for many more!
Meanwhile, at the San Diego Comic Con, Bif Bang Pow! and Entertainment Earth will be offering a Star Trek/The Twilight Zone crossover, in the form of a pair of monitor mates in a lunch tin featuring William Shatner, as both Captain Kirk, and the character Bob Wilson from The Twilight Zone episode Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. You can see more images of each element of the set on IGN.
Finally, Things From Another World have added a listing for another T-shirt in the Star Trek/The Big Bang Theory crossover collection. This new design features Sheldon doing his best Picard:
