IDW have released their June released, which include two Star Trek titles. Continue below for the details of those, and other Star Trek comic updates.

June will see just one new Star Trek comic, the finale of the magnificent TOS: Year Five series. As with the rest of the three-part story, issue twenty-four is written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, with art by Stephen Thompson. Here's the blurb:

Their journey has taken them to the edge of the known universe and beyond. They’ve faced down impossible odds, conquered incredible enemies, and now, here in the shadow of home, their mission will come to an end... and nothing will ever be the same. The crew of the Enterprise will put it all on the line in the grand finale of Star Trek: Year Five from showrunners Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly (Gotham City Garage, Green Arrow) and artist Stephen Thompson (Satellite Falling, Die Hard: Year One).

As usual the book will be offered in two different covers, with the main by Thompson as well, and a more elusive retail incentive cover by JJ Lendl. So far just the latter has been revealed:

Year Five heads towards its finale in IDW's May comic releases

IDW have released their solicitations for May, which include a double dose of Year Five(ad), as the final three-part story in the series begins. Continue below for all the details of those, other updates from the series, and more comics news.

Year Five's finale, Ithaca, begins in issue 22(ad). The original creative team that began the series is returning; writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, and artist Stephen Thompson. Here's the blurb:

For five years, the U.S.S. Enterprise and her crew have journeyed to the edge of the known universe, tackling impossible challenges and menacing foes along the way. But the biggest challenge of all awaits them here at home... and no matter what happens, the lives of Captain Kirk and his crew will be changed forever. The grand finale of Star Trek: Year Five begins here with a new issue from showrunners Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly (Gotham City Garage, Green Arrow) and artist Stephen Thompson (Satellite Falling, Die Hard: Year One).

The book is offered in the usual choice of two covers, with Thompson also behind the main cover, which features Kirk departing the Enterprise bridge. Alternatively the rarer retail incentive cover is by JJ Lendl, who is this time drawing on the ancient Greek theme of the title:

Year Five comic updates

IDW have released their solicitations for April, which include just one new Star Trek comic, the latest issue in the Year Five series. Continue below for all the details of that, and some other Year Five updates.

Issue 21 of Year Five(ad) is part two of the Vulcan/Romulan time travel story, The Raptor's Wings. The story is written by Brandon Easton, with art from Silvia Califano. Here's the blurb:

With Spock still missing, the crew of the Enterprise needs to figure out where—and when—he is if they want to save the future! Meanwhile, on Vulcan, Spock is faced with a choice that won’t only change his life, but Vulcan society as he knows it! The final voyages of the original mission continue in this episode from writer Brandon Easton (Transformers: War for Cybertron, Thundercats) and artist Silvia Califano (Star Trek: Year Five, X-Files: Case Files)

The book will be available in two different covers, and both have been previewed already. The main cover featuring Spock with the Stone of Gol, and a Vulcan and Romulan, is by Stephen Thompson, while a more elusive retail incentive cover is J.J. Lendl, the latest of their travel posters, advertising a time travel holiday to "Ancient Vulcan at Civil War".

IDW have revealed their Star Trek comics for February, which spanning TOS, TNG, and Voyager include two new books, and reprint of a classic. Continue below for all the details.

Year Five(ad) #20: The Raptor's Wings

Written by Brandon Easton, with art by Silvia Califano.

As the crew of the Enterprise moves toward an uncertain future, one of their own will be pulled into a violent past! While investigating a mysterious structure on Vulcan, Spock vanishes. As the crew tries to find him, Spock must fight to survive as he navigates the painful past of his home planet. The final voyages of the original crew continue in this time-hoping adventure from writer Brandon Easton (Transformers: War for Cybertron, Thundercats) and artist Silvia Califano (Star Trek: Year Five, X-Files: Case Files)

From the title, covers, and snippets in the blurb here, I think we're going to see some of the Vulcan/Romulan schism. through the eyes of time traveling Spock. Cool! 

The book is offered in two covers from the regular artists for the series, and both have been revealed already. The main cover by Stephen Thompson features a traditionally Vulcan-clothed Spock under a looming Romulan emblem (TrekMovie released the final cover, but you can see the line art on Previews). There's also a retail incentive by J.J. Lendl, which gives us a retro poster for the story, and also features Spock, among Vulcan and Romulan iconography.

DS9: Too Long a Sacrifice #4 covers and excerpt

This week brings the fourth and final issue(ad) of IDW's murder mystery DS9 comic miniseries, Too Long a Sacrifice(ad). 

The book, and indeed the whole series, is written by Scott and David Tipton, with art by Greg Scott and colourist Felipe Sobreiro. As with other issues in the series, there is a choice of three covers. Either the A cover(ad) by Richardo Drumond, featuring many of the prominent characters that feature in the story in an exciting movie-poster style arrangement. The B cover(ad) is a photo cover, this time giving us Garak. And there's the rarer retail incentive cover(ad), with art by JK Woodward, highlighting Odo and Worf.

IDW's Star Trek comics for January, and Eaglemoss' latest Graphic Novel Collection books

IDW have released their solicitations for January, which include two new Star Trek comics, both continuing current runs. Continue below for all the details of those, plus what sadly looks to be the last batch of title announcements from Eaglemoss' Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection.

Year Five(ad) #19 will be part two of the medical story On the Death of a Friend. The creative team continues from the previous issue, with the book written by Jim McCann, and art by Angel Hernandez. Here's the blurb:

A pandemic raging across Alpha Centauri. A powerful enemy aboard the Enterprise. With death lurking around every corner, the crew will face down one of their greatest challenges yet in the shocking conclusion to this episode from Eisner-winning writer Jim McCann (Return of the Dapper Men) and superstar artist Angel Hernandez (Star Trek: Picard)!

This issue will be available in the usual two covers. Either the main cover by Stephen Thompson, with a rather scary appearance by Isis. Or there's the retail incentive by J.J. Lendl, their latest travel poster, with a bit of a twist this time. 

Year Five #14: Guide of Fire, part 2 preview

Out this week is issue 14 of IDW's TOS: Year Five comic, part-two of the Klingon-focused story Guide of Fire.

The book features some spectacularly dynamic artwork from Angel Hernandez, with lots of reds from colourist Fran Gamboa, and a story that pays off almost every TOS Klingon episode, from writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, who once again deliver another compelling chapter in what is easily one of the best Star Trek comic series ever written.

The usual cover artists for the series give us two cover options. Either the main cover by Stephen Thompson and colourist Charlie Kirchoff, featuring a bloodied Kirk. Or the retail incentive cover from JJ Lendl, the latest in their travel poster series, inviting you to visit the Klingon Empire, or to wait for their invasion to bring it to you!

IDW's November Star Trek comics, latest Graphic Novel Collection titles, and more comic updates

IDW have announced their solicitations for November, which include the start of a new Voyager miniseries, and a Gary Seven origin story! Continue below for all the details of those, plus the latest books in Eaglemoss' Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection (including the first ever reprint of a super rare Brazilian comic), and other Star Trek comic updates.

The big news from IDW's latest announcements is that November will see the start of their first ever Voyager comic miniseries (and only second ever stand-alone Voyager comic, following the one-shot mirror universe tale Mirrors and Smoke). The four-part series will be focused on Seven of Nine, and is called Seven’s Reckoning, and will be written by Dave Baker, with art by Angel Hernandez, and colours by Ronda Pattison. Here's the blurb for issue one:

After Voyager encounters a damaged alien ship deep in the Delta quadrant, what at first seems to be a simple repair mission becomes much more complicated for Seven of Nine as she becomes involved in an ancient conflict that will put her newfound humanity to the test. From writer Dave Baker (Action Hospital, F*ck Off Squad, Star Trek: Waypoint) and artist Angel Hernandez (Star Trek: Picard Countdown, Star Trek/Green Lantern).

The first issue will be offered in at least three covers. Either the A cover by Angel Hernandez, a B photo-cover, or a retail incentive cover by Jefferey Veregge. So far just the Hernandez design has been revealed:

DS9: Too Long a Sacrifice #2 covers and excerpt

Out this week is the second issue of IDW's DS9 comic miniseries, Too Long a Sacrifice. This time we get an Odo and Worf team-up, as the crime fighting duo try to find out more about the explosive start to the case, as seen in the previous issue.

The book, and series, is written by Scott and David Tipton, with art by Greg Scott and colourist Felipe Sobreiro. This issue is available in a choice of three covers: Either the A cover by Richardo Drumond, featuring Odo and an ominous shadowy figure. The B cover is a photo cover, also featuring Odo. And there's also a retail incentive cover, with art by JK Woodward, and you guessed it, Odo again, this time with a few suspects he's pondering.

Eaglemoss to publish lost Gold Key comic, as the Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection gets an extension to 140 issues

Eaglemoss' Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection has been granted it's second extension, pushing the comic collection up to 140 issues, and giving it a chance to come ever closer to completing the mission of reprinting every Star Trek comic from the long and varied publishing history of the franchise. The latest announced issues include some real obscure treats, including many comics that have never been reprinted since their original publication, and in one very special case, a comic that has never before been published at all: The cancelled Gold Key #62!

Series editor Rich Handley announced the news on the Star Trek COMICS : Across Generations Facebook group, and gave details of the first few books in the extended run, up to issue 124. Continue below for the details of each issue (working backwards from 124, which is due in August):

#124: Splashdown

• Marvel Voyager miniseries Splashdown
• Written by Laurie Sutton, with art by Terry Pallot and Al Milgrom.
• A four-part underwater adventure notable as the only time we see the aeroshuttle in action. 
• Gold Key #62: Trial By Fire
• Written by John Warner, with art by Frank Bolle.
• A cancelled issue brought to print thanks to Mark Martinez of The Star Trek Comics Checklist. 

Here's how Handley summarises that bonus story:

As a special bonus, this volume will present the unpublished 62nd issue of Gold Key Comics' Star Trek run. Writer John Warner had turned in a script for this issue, titled "Trial By Fire," but it remained in limbo for decades once Gold Key parent company Western Publishing dropped the Star Trek license. Scans of Warner's script, and of nineteen lightly penciled pages from artist Frank Bolle, have been shared informally among collectors, but thanks to Star Trek comics expert Mark Martinez, Eaglemoss has gained access to the actual script and original art pages for high-quality reproduction purposes. At last, this lost Gold Key tale is being presented to fans in an official capacity.

The Q Conflict #5 covers and preview

Out this week is the fifth issue of The Q Conflict, IDW's big multi-series crossover event, which as ever is brought to use by writers Scott and David Tipton, with David Messina returning after an issue off to pencil, with inks by Elisabetta D’Amico.

The cliffhanger ending involving the Prophets from the previous issue is wrapped up with surprising ease, leaving the multi-series crews able to deal with Borg for this issue's troublesome task. Thankfully Borg joining the adventure mean a nice selection of Borgy covers for this issue. Once more David Messina (and colourist Alessandra Alexakis) brings us both the A and B covers, forming a diptych featuring all the series ships facing a Borg cube. George Caltsoudas's latest retail incentive cover is a real highlight though, featuring an almost liquid Borg Queen, with other villineous aliens lurking in her shadow.

When this series was announced a few days ago I got the impression it would be a new ongoing series, although the first details were a little ambiguous about that. But the solicitations seem to confirm it, with IDW describing it as "A new continuing series about the end of the Five-Year Mission!"

March Star Trek comics

Waypoint Special 2019
Written by Matt Sheean, Malachi Ward, Thom Zahler, Stephen Mooney, and Corinna Bechko, with art by Malachi Ward, Stephen Mooney, Andy Price, and Daniel Irizarri.

The anthology series celebrating 50+ years of Star Trek continues in this new oversized special. Featuring four all-new tales written and drawn by some of today's top creators, this new installment of the hit Waypoint Special will revisit fan-favorite characters all across the Star Trek universe.

The previous Waypoint Special was only just released, but it's great to see another volume rushing up to bring us even more creative and diverse Star Trek stories. There's just one cover for this book, by Stephen Mooney, which IDW note isn't the final version yet. From it we can at least infer this book will include TOS, TNG, and Voyager stories.

February Star Trek comics

The Q Conflict #2

It's Captain vs. Captain vs. Captain vs. Captain in the most high-stakes scavenger hunt the galaxy has ever seen as Picard, Kirk, Janeway, Sisko and their teams compete for the amusement of their godlike tormentors. The biggest Star Trek crossover event ever continues here!

This second issue in the Q mega-crossover is offered in at least three covers, A and B by David Messina, plus a retail incentive from George Caltsoudas. We can only see the A so far though.

January Star Trek comics

IDW have released their January solicitations, which include three new Star Trek books, and an omnibus. They pre-announced most of this month's big event releases a week or so ago, but did save one nugget of news for the solicitations; the Transformers crossover has been extended an extra issue! Star Trek vs. Transformers #5
Written by John Barber and Mike Johnson, with art by Philip Murphy

As IDW proudly proclaim, "Demand was so high, we’re doing another issue!". This surprise extra issue in the crossover will be offered in at least three covers, with apparently only the battle-worn retail incentive cover by Chris Panda so far revealed. The A cover will be by Philip Murphy, and the B by Josh Burcham.
