3D printed Star Trek Online ships coming in smaller (cheaper) sizes

Star Trek Online and Mixed Dimensions have announced they are widening their offering of 3D printed model starships on their GamePrint service, with a new range of options for different sized models, printed in full colour.

The initial service to print starships from the video game was launched back in March, allowing players to buy physical models of their in-game ships (with over 500 designs available, all customised to their owner's heart's content). Initially these were offered as twelve inch long models, either in solid colours or hand-painted, and at a fairly substantial price point. Now though they are widen their options with the choice to instead print ships directly in full colour, and at a range of sizes; either four, seven, or twelve inch long models, ranging from $20 to $299.

Star Trek Toys update: McFarlane Toys, DST, and NJ Croce figures, ships, and props

Lots of Star Trek toys news is surfacing lately, with new releases on the way, but also something maybe not coming so soon. Continue below for the latest from Diamond Select Toys and NJ Croce. But first, there's a whole bunch of stuff to look at from the newest Star Trek toy company, McFarlane Toys.

McFarlane's first Star Trek releases are due next month, seven inch action figures of Captain Kirk and Captain Picard. We finally have some new preview images of them thanks to adverts that have appeared in recent Star Trek comics, and a banner from McFarlane's website. Hopefully more comprehensive sets of photos will be released as we approach the release dates, but for now this is our best look at the new figures:

IDW's August Star Trek comics

IDW have announced their solicitations for August, which include, for the first time in a long time, just one Star Trek comic! That lonely title is Terra Incognita issue two, continuing the third miniseries in IDW's recent TNG mirror universe continuity. Here's the blurb:
When a routine diplomatic mission takes a catastrophic turn, Counselor Deanna Troi is the only thing that stands between the Federation and the prospect of galactic war!
The book is written by Scott and David Tipton, with art by Carlos Nieto. It will be available in four covers, with the main one by Tony Shasteen, and a photo B-cover. Additional variants will come from Elizabeth Beals and J.K. Woodward. IDW have so far revealed two of those, the Shasteen and Beals covers (and you can also see Beals' artwork for the cover sans titles on her DeviantArt):

Two new Star Trek bust series on the way?

I hope you like busts, because it looks like we've got plenty on the way! Eaglemoss' latest round of solicitations include a new Captain Kirk bust, the first in The Official Star Trek Busts Collection apparently!

Eaglemoss surveyed about possibly doing a bust series last year, so it's not too surprising this is on the way. Here's how they describe the series in their blurb:
The iconic Captains of Star Fleet and other memorable characters from over 50 years of STAR TREK TV and movie history are captured in impressive detail with highly accurate likenesses, uniforms and props.

These hand-painted polyresin busts are 4.5 to 6" tall, come complete with a fact-filled magazine, and form an essential addition to any STAR TREK collection.

Eaglemoss starships previews and updates

Lots of new pictures of from Eaglemoss' Official Starships Collection today, including regular issues, specials, and hints at future bonus issues. Continue below to check them all out.

First up, thanks to the Hero Collector blog, we have our first look at issue 130, the Borg Probe. Which being a Borg ship is perhaps not the most exciting model in the collection, but I'm glad to flesh out the Borg fleet to near completion (just missing are, weirdly, the iconic Borg Cube, and the Borg scout seen crashed in I, Borg). This ship only appeared fleetingly in Voyager's Dark Frontier, although if you ever played the video game Star Trek: Armada you'll know it well as the Borg Interceptor. This issue should be arriving in the UK first, in August, with the US release following in September, and other territories when the series gets that far!

Both stories are written by Scott and David Tipton.

Like the other books in the series, this issue is available in five covers: J.K. Woodward's connected cover series continues on the A cover, which will also at some point also be available as a convention exclusive uncoloured variant. The B cover, which features mirror and prime versions of La Forge, is by the issue artist, Nieto, coloured by Jason Lewis. Then there are two retail incentive covers, a photo-cover featuring Riker, and a portrait of mirror-Data by Peter McKinstry, both of which continue series of covers running throughout the series.

The book is available in four different covers. Cover A is by Angel Hernandez (coloured by Esther Sanz), and features mirror L'Rell leading a band of rebels. Cover B, a photo-cover, featuring Emperor Georgiou, who is also the subject of Elizabeth Beals's retail incentive cover. Trek TV updates: Mystery Meyer series and Discovery latest

Catching up on the Star Trek TV news, including the latest Discovery season two updates, and DVD release of sorts (not one you can get yet alas).

But first, we have an intriguing update on Nick Meyer's mystery project, a not-Discovery something, which if you recall he first mentioned not quite a year ago. TrekCore caught his most recent comments last week, when asked about the project at another event:
I was hired to write a stand-alone ‘Star Trek’-related trilogy, [details of which] I can’t discuss or I’d have to kill you. [Laughs] I was writing it for CBS [All] Access… but at the moment CBS is at a war with Paramount/Viacom [about merging].

They’re in a power struggle which turned really nasty this past week when CBS decided to sue Viacom. So I don’t think my project is going anywhere in a hurry, because everything is on hold while they sort out this merger business. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
What this keeps vague is what it's a trilogy of? If it's for CBS one assumes it's a TV project, as Paramount retain the rights to make Star Trek movies; but does that rule out TV-movies? Or are we talking three regular TV episodes of something, or three linked miniseries?? Who knows! And if it's awaiting the outcome of the latest round of CBS/Paramount dealings then we might not know for some good time yet!

Through the Mirror #3 preview

We're at the mid-point in IDW's weekly-release TNG mirror universe comic miniseries, Through the Mirror now, with issue three released a few days ago giving us a particularly entertaining Barclay-focused chapter. Both stories are written by Scott and David Tipton.

Like the other books in the series, this issue is available in five covers, with Troi the focus of most of them:  J.K. Woodward connected cover series continues on the A cover, which will at some point also be available as a convention exclusive uncoloured variant. The B cover is by the issue artist, Hood, coloured by Jason Lewis, and features mirror and prime versions of Troi. And then there are two retail incentive covers, both continuing series through the miniseries; a photo-cover featuring  Worf, and a portrait of Troi by Peter McKinstry.

Bridge Crew VR game gets TNG expansion

Just about a year after the release of Ubisoft's virtual reality Star Trek video game, Bridge Crew, it looks like your crew can rest assured there is plenty of new life, and indeed new civilisations, to be found in the game, thanks to a newly announced expansion! Due for release in a couple of days time is package of TNG content, that includes the USS Enterprise-D as a playable ship in the game, and the accompanying bridge and character options that entails (including being able to make yourself into a Soong-type android).

The expansion will also see the Romulans and Borg added to the game, and two new mission types to play: Patrol, and Resistance, with the latter being a mixture of endurance and treasure hunting while seeking to survive and defeat a Borg Cube, as was described on the Playstation blog by game designer Hunter Janes:

New TOS silver coin-notes and Captain Kirk figurine from the New Zealand Mint

The latest Star Trek currency collectable is a bit of a curiosity: Not quite a coin, not quite a note, behold, the coin-note! Fresh from the New Zealand Mint, on behalf of the nation of Niue, is this collection of solid silver banknotes. Each 15x7cm note has a face value of one Niue dollar, and the actual face of Queen Elizabeth on one side, and each is made from five grams of silver (making them worth/cost several times the face value).

Each of the main TOS characters have been the subject of the other side of the note, with 50,000 available of each crew member. Captain Kirk began the series back in January, and regular releases since then mean the whole crew are now available.

Through the Mirror #1 preview

Out this week is the first issue of Through the Mirror, this month's weekly release TNG mirror universe comic book miniseries, and sequel to last year's Mirror Broken series.

This book, and each issue of the series, is split in two, with the headline story seeing the TNG mirror universe crew infiltrate the prime reality, and a second story set back in the mirror universe. Both stories are written by Scott and David Tipton, picking up where they left things off with Mirror Broken, and the artist from that series, J.K. Woodward, is also illustrating the secondary story. The main story has a different artist for each issue, with Marcus To and colourist Brittany Peer kicking things off this issue (in a change to the originally announced artist, Chris Johnson)

This first issue is available in no less than six covers, with Picard the focus of nearly all of them. The A cover by J.K. Woodward is the first part of a massive single vertical design that will join all five A covers for the series; this same design, uncoloured, will also be available as a convention exclusive. The B cover featuring Worf (who is also prominent in the story in this issue) is by Marcus To, coloured by Jason Lewis. There's a retail incentive photo-cover with regular Picard, and another retail incentive cover by Peter McKinstry featuring mirror-Picard; these will both be ongoing series of covers for other issues of the series too. A further retail incentive cover is by Marc Laming, coloured again by Jason Lewis, and features a confrontation of both mirror and prime Picards and Rikers.
