Action figure updates: DST Borg, Discovery Titans, and Mego

Got a bunch of Star Trek action figure updates today, including the latest from Mego and Titan Merchandise. But first, let's check out something new from Diamond Select Toys:

We got our first look at DST's forthcoming Star Trek Select Borg action figure a few weeks ago, and now it's up for pre-order - Entertainment Earth anticipate an March release. DST have released a new image, which disappointingly doesn't show the arm implants included:

The description makes it sound really fun though, with the assortment of interchangeable parts allow this one release to make many different drones (hopefully DST will release many more photos to show off this feature!):
A Diamond Select Release! Resistance is futile! No Star Trek fan can pass up the opportunity to own the ultimate Borg action figure! This 7-inch, fully poseable action figure is based on the Borg's appearance in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and includes multiple interchangeable parts, including human and Klingon heads, various eyepieces, different tool arms and a removable vest. You can create dozens of different configurations and build an army of Borg! With a full 16 points of articulation, this figure comes packaged in display-ready Select figure packaging with side-panel artwork. Sculpted by Patrick Piggott!

Cushions, bottle openers, and more of the latest Star Trek stuff

Feeling a lack of Star Trek in some corner of your life? Here are the latest Star Trek bits and pieces to plug those gaps:

ThinkGeek's latest TOS uniform product sees the Starfleet uniform design applied to cushions. You'll need to make sure you only place these on furniture made from the latest flame retardant materials, as the red one will attract phaser fire, lightning, and the like.

Another staple of recent Star Trek tie-in stuff is things shaped like the USS Enterprise. A few years ago the USS Enterprise bottle opener was released with a silvery finish, and now it's back in three new versions. You can now get the Enterprise in either white, black, or gold, each of which comes in a box to match the colour. I think the white one looks especially effective for the Enterprise:

Lots of new Star Trek figures revealed at Comic Con

Several companies revealed new Star Trek action figures and sculptures at this past weekend's San Diego Comic Con. Here's a round up of all the new stuff:

Square Enix will be launching a new line of large-scale high-end action figures, they will be part of their wider Play Arts KAI range, which includes figures from numerous franchises, including Batman and Halo. Their first releases will be Kirk and Spock from nuTrek; they had prototypes of both on display at the Con. Toy News International posted this image of the highly detailed ten-inch figures. For a better look check out Toy News International and ToyArk's galleries.

Kirk prime is also getting the big-figure treatment. A new twelve-inch Captain Kirk figure with a cloth uniform is coming later this year from Moebius. Figures.com posted the follow picture, and they too have a gallery where you can see more images of the captain:

Also going for a retro look are Big Bang Pow! who are the latest company to join the Star Trek/The Big Bang Theory co-branding efforts, with a new range of Mego-style eight inch action figures. The range includes normal attire for most of the Big Bang Theory characters, while the four Big Bang Theory boys will also be available in TOS uniforms:

You can see more of Bif Bang Pow's displays on Action Figure Insider, and Figures.com. Among the other items there is the new TNG bridge bobble heads, with the whole crew revealed in their final form for the first time:

Wesley Crusher was released at the Con, the rest of the crew will be coming out once a month for the next several months. Entertainment Earth currently have listings for Riker, LaForge, and Worf.

Finally Titan Merchandise had their Star Trek Masterpiece Collection busts on display, including a newly revealed addition to the range, Mr Sulu, modelled after his foil wielding appearance in The Naked Time. StarTrek.com posted this image:

That's not quite it, I've already reported on several other figures: The new Skele-Treks figures, new figurines in Hallmark's Keepsakes range, and a new Mimobot character. Cubify also announced new additions to their 3D printed figurine range, which I'll be reporting on separately later.

Picard and Kirk, figures.

Whether you like to concentrate on a nice bust, or enjoy a full figure, you're spoilt for choice if you want a model of Kirk or Picard in the coming months.

Diamond Select Toys have now officially announced the second offering in the new Star Trek Select range, Kirk and Khan will join the initial Spock and Horta release. This second duo is expected in March. Here's the new photo of the display piece and DST's description:

A Diamond Select Release! Designed and Sculpted by Art Asylum! It's an all-new Star Trek action figure line designed especially for collectors, and the newest offering in this series is Captain James T. Kirk! Kirk comes with a part of the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise, and can be displayed in combat with Khan from the classic episode "Space Seed." Packaged in display-friendly Select packaging, each 7-inch scale figure comes with a diorama-style accessory and interchangeable parts for a variety of display options.

Moving up the price scale, Titan Merchandise have re-announced the start of their Masterpiece Collection range of busts. So far nine different characters have been previewed for the range, with Kirk and Picard originally expected some months ago. Now it seems they will finally be kicking the series off in November.

And finally for the most indulgent of Trekkies, Hollywood Collectables have given A Piece of the Action previews of forthcoming additions to their Star Trek sculpture range. There's a new McCoy sculpt, presumably joining the previous Kirk and Spock releases in either the 1/4 or 1/6th scale ranges:

And what looks to me like perhaps their best sculpt so far, is also their first TNG release; 1/6th scale Captain Picard in his chair (A Piece of the Action has many more images of this one):

This Month: February 2012

New this month from the Trekverse:

The Rings of Time
This month's novel is a TOS story by Greg Cox, with a time travel plot featuring Colonel Shaun Christopher from the 21st century.
2020 The U.S.S. Lewis and Clark, under the command of Colonel Shaun Christopher, sets off on humanity’s first manned mission to Saturn. But the unexpected presence of a stowaway complicates the mission—as does a startling encounter with an alien probe. But when Colonel Christopher attempts to capture the probe, he suddenly finds himself transported across time and space to a future era of space exploration...

Stardate 7103.4 The U.S.S. Enterprise responds to an urgent distress call from a mining colony orbiting Klondike VI, a ringed gas giant not unlike Saturn. For unknown reasons, the planet’s rings are coming apart, threatening the safety of the colony and its inhabitants. Searching for a way to avert the disaster, Captain James T. Kirk and his crew investigate a mysterious alien probe that has just entered the system. But when the probe is beamed aboard, Kirk abruptly finds himself floating in space above Saturn, wearing an old-fashioned NASA spacesuit, with the Enterprise nowhere in sight...

Two missions. Two crews. And a time-twisting crisis that spans the centuries...

Star Trek (ongoing) #6: Operation: Annihilate!, Part 2
The concluding part of the third episode adaption in the Star Trek ongoing series, by Mike Johnson, with art by Joe Corroney.
It's the stunning conclusion of OPERATION: ANNIHILATE! The events of the new timeline unfold in shocking ways as Kirk reunites with his estranged brother to save a colony from extinction. STAR TREK writer/producer Roberto Orci oversees this story that continues the lead-up to the much-anticipated film sequel!

Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes #5
Chris Roberson brings us the penultimate issue of his Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes crossover, with art by Jeffrey and Philip Moy.
In the distant past, one team of Legionnaires and Starfleet officers come face to face with the force that erased both of their timelines from existence, while in the altered 23rd century another team confronts the latter-day version of that same force. But now that they know how history was changed, can anything be done to set things right?
Enemy Unseen
The second in IDW's Star Trek Classics series, this reprint of a 2001 WildStorm Comics omnibus, includes the TNG stories Perchance to Dream, Embrace the Wolf, and The Killing Shadows.
In a long and distinguished career, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his crew have faced uncounted foes and vanquished incredible dangers. But what happens when the ememy can't be easily seen–when it lurks in the shadows, disguises itself as polite society, or emerges from the depths of one's own mind? These are the antagonists with which the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise must contend in this volume, the most dangerous kind of enemy–the enemy unseen. Contains the three stories "Perchance to Dream,” "Embrace the Wolf,” and "The Killing Shadows.”

Expeditions Expansion Set
An expansion of Star Trek Expeditions, Wizkids game's first Star Trek game, designed by Reiner Knizia, and arguably the first original story set after the film in the new timeline. This set includes three extra characters; Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov.
Joining the original crew from the base game Star Trek Expansions, is the charismatic trio of Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov! Featuring their own unique talents and skills to the game that give way to even more avenues of gameplay for you to enjoy! The Expansion Set also allows for you to bring a Fifth Player to the table, increasing the size of your away team by one! Requires Star Trek Expeditions Game to play!

Tactics
A new Star Trek game from Wizkids, kicks off with a four ship starter set, and a selection of individual ship boosters.
Star Trek HeroClix: Tactics puts you in command of Federation and Klingon vessels and is 100% compatible with the HeroClix core rules system. Tactics is intended as a standalone game system and will exist outside of the Modern and Golden Age tournament environments. What this mean is Tactics operates by the same rules and Powers and Abilities card that your standard HeroClix game is played with, but is meant to be played as its own game.

Tactics features more than 20 pre-painted ships from both the Federation and Klingon affiliations and will be available for sale in both a 4-Ship starter product and single figure boosters.

Titan Merchandise is proud to introduce the high-quality, limited edition Star Trek Masterpiece Collection! Every detail of Picard's facial appearance, Starfleet uniform, and authoritative demeanor is captured in this astonishing three-quarter length sculpt.

Enterprise Plush
ThinkGeek's latest innovative Star Trek product, your very own cuddly starship!
James T. Kirk never raised a child, but if he did, that baby would teethe on a type-2 phaser, learn to dive-roll before he could walk, and his teddy bear would be a plush Enterprise. Would you want your child to be anything less?

But who are we kidding... we're pretty sure you know more than one full-sized human who would love to cozy up with this cuddly replica. In fact, there's probably a Klingon in your life who would enjoying sinking their teeth into the hull of this cute reminder of their enduring shame and defeat.

The Star Trek Plush Enterprise was lovingly designed by the Trek nerds at ThinkGeek. Our goal was to create a plush adorable and snuggly enough for wee geeks but with details that would make a manchild or womanchild of any age squee with delight. Our NCC-1701 measures a little over a foot in length with a saucer section width of about six inches. Give the ship a squeeze to fire the photon torpedoes and see the red LEDs light up on the nacelles.
Pre-order: ThinkGeek.

Drinking vessels
Finally, Entertainment Earth have a variety of Star Trek items for drinking coming into stock this month. A nice mug covered in images of the TOS Enterprise, a travel cup also covered in Enterprises, and a set of glasses with TOS characters and phrases.

For a listing of prose, comics, games, music and DVDs in the rest of the year ahead, see the 2012 schedule page.

Toys, collectables and apparel update

CBS have recently announced several new licenses and products, these include:

A second set of Star Trek Mr Potato Heads, coming in November from PPW Toys. As announced on StarTrek.com this time we'll get potato versions of Spock and Uhura:

A new Star Trek Monopoly from USAopoly, this time themed on the Klingons; this edition will be bilingual (presumably Federation standard as well as Klingon), with various Klingon worlds to conquer, outposts to establish and honor to chanced (as chance becomes "honor" and community chest will be "combat"). USAopoly did a great job on their last Star Trek edition, which I reviewed some time ago.
