Her Universe Star Trek active wear and more

Her Universe have released several new Star Trek garments, including a new range of active wear via plus size specialists Torrid. Continue below to check them out.

First up we've got a Star Trek sports bra (possibly a first?), which inspired by the TNG uniform, features a printed on combadge, and dislocated rank pips on the back.

TNG uniforms for all occasions

There's been run of TNG uniform inspired clothing releases lately. Continue below to check out your uniform options for smart and casual events.

First up, by far the most stylish of the recent releases is Her Universe's new (released in September) TNG command style shift dress. This elegant two-tone piece keeps things fairly simple, with a TNG combadge cluing you in to it's design origins.

Trek-wear: Amazing prints, cosy jumpers, sportswear, maternity, and more!

A bumper Trek-wear update for you today, with enough Star Trek inspired clothing to fill a wardrobe! That includes, jumpers and jackets, legging and socks, boots, sportswear, maternity wear, dresses, and more.

First up, these amazing kaleidoscope print designs, which are available from ThinkGeek. Both feature a TOS inspired print, made from images of the Enterprise and various icons, in a floral/firework style burst. A yellow toned version is used for a skirt, while a red-infused variant makes up the skirt of a dress.

Her Universe's new Star Trek costume pieces

At the past weekend's San Diego Comic Con Her Universe launched two new items of clothing in their Star Trek range, and included Star Trek themed design in their fashion show. Continue below for all the details.

Several new designs from the worlds of Marvel, Star Wars, Studio Ghibli, and, of course, Star Trek, have been launched to coincide with the Comic Con. Both of the new Star Trek pieces are based on TNG costumes. That includes the rather brilliantly named, The Captain Picardigan, a cardigan based on the TNG uniform:

Then there's the more directly translated Deanna Troi costume dress, based on her purple dress:

Her Universe warms up with latest Star Trek releases

Her Universe have added several new Star Trek designs to their clothing collection recently, and they must be starting to feel the chill of winter, as all the latest releases are long sleeved. There are two new quote-based designs. From Kirk we have "Second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning", with the Enterprise whooshing through. This is available as a long sleeved T-shirt:

While on a hoodie, from Spock we have "I have been, and always shall be, your friend", which also features the Enterprise, as well as a pattern of stars which form the Vulcan hand sign. Check that out after the jump:

Her Universe is charming

Her Universe have added two Star Trek themed charm beads to their range, one featuring a Starfleet insignia, and one featuring a live long and prosper hand sign. Both are available exclusively via ThinkGeek.

In fact ThinkGeek offer quite a range of geek-themed charm beads, including a TARDIS, T-Rex skull, and Lego(-style) brick.

Trek-wear: Enterprise-ring, T-shirts, uniforms, and props

New trek stuff to wear! First up, a new licensee was revealed at the Star Trek Las Vegas convention; RockLove will be producing Star Trek jewellery, and previewed a quirky two-part Enterprise ring in a merchandise presentation at the convention. TrekMovie got this shot from the show:

Also a bit shiny is Her Universe's new T-shirt, which features the TOS title with a metallic edge and spacey interior. The design is available from ThinkGeek, as is another new ladies design, featuring some Gold Key style-art:

More retro designs can be found in the latest additions to Plastic Head's apparel range for the UK market. There are lots of designs, mostly based on TOS, including some Trexels and few TNG too - They offer T-shirts, as well as jumpers and bags.

Trekwear: Her Universe's Geek Couture, and more

This week at the San Diego Comic Con, Her Universe showed off "Geek Couture" at their fashion show, with fandom fashion on the catwalk. Lots of popular sci-fi series were referenced in designs for the show, including, of course, Star Trek. The mirror universe was the inspiration for Laura E. Desch's design "Starfleet's Finest", a take on mirror-Kirk, modelled by Michele Morrow. Here's StarTrek.com's photo of the outfit:

Trek-wear: Picard jacket, combadges, belts, and high fashion

Here's the latest news from the assorted Star Trek clothiers. Starting with Anovos' latest uniform replica, the Captain Picard jacket. Here's what they have to say about this piece:

Designed by Robert Blackman with direct input from Sir Patrick Stewart himself, Captain Picard’s Jacket was intended to make the Captain stand out from the rest of the crew -- just as Captain Kirk’s wraparound tunics had a generation before. We all wanted it the first time we saw it on El-Adrel, and by the time Jean-Luc plays the first notes of “Kamin’s Song” we had to have it.

Having examined a screen-used jacket, we duplicated the patterning and precise color of the original down to a tee.

We then sourced the correct synthetic fiber for the body, microsuede for the shoulders, satin interior lining for comfort, and finished it with a zipper closure so you can recreate the different adventures in which Captain Picard wore this stunning jacket.

As ever Anovos are offering a discount for earl pre-orders, with the first twenty-five customers getting their jackets for $225, rising to eventual full price of $300 for those who nab the final few of the edition of one-hundred.

Of course you'll need a combadge to go with this, and while QMx provide a very shiny replica, maybe you'll be interested in something more interactive? Well, you're in luck, Forbidden Planet have recently added listings for TNG and Voyager combadges on the way from Bif Bang Pow. The new plastic props feature a chirp sound effect when you tap them, and are expected to open hailing frequencies in December.

Painting starships, with Bye Bye Robot's Charity Wood

Bye Bye Robot recently released their first ever Star Trek: Enterprise print, and the artist, Bye Bye Robot's co-founder, Charity Wood, was kind enough to tell me all about it, and share a look behind the scenes:

Before you tell me about your latest piece, could you tell me a bit about you as an artist, and Bye Bye Robot. How did you came to create the world of Star Trek art the robot brings us?

I'd be happy to. I'm one of those people who picked up pencils and paint-brushes as (little more than) a toddler and then never put them down again. I've been making art as long as I can remember, so when it came time to choose school and career, art was the obvious choice. I've also been a sci-fi fan as long as I can remember, and as soon as Star Trek: The Next Generation hit the small screen, I was hooked. Fast forward to some years later, after working in several art fields and absorbing as much Star Trek as I possibly could, I realized that I wanted to have Star Trek art on my walls but couldn't find what I was looking for. The natural thing for me to do seemed to be...create Star Trek art for myself. So, that's what I did. My first Star Trek painting was the painting named "NCC-1701" and I just kept going from there. After I began receiving complements from friends I started to think that maybe others would enjoy these paintings too, and kaboom! Bye Bye, Robot was born! It took a bit of time, working through the legal side of things with CBS, but finally we made it and launched the shop. We ramped up our artwork offerings slowly so we could grow organically with the business, and now we work with almost a dozen artists, and are adding new art prints on a regular basis. Our next step, on the horizon, will be to branch out and begin incorporating more genres and licenses to our gallery.

Your latest piece features the NX-01, and is Bye Bye Robot's first Enterprise-inspired design. How did you go about bringing this one to life? Were there any particular challenges, or things you enjoyed, about depicting the first starship Enterprise?

Since painting "NCC-1701" and "Boldly Go" it's always been my intention to continue my ship series adding many more well known Star Trek ships to the roster. The Enterprise NX-01 was always on the list, but when we saw that Scott Bakula was going to be attending the Austin Comic Con last month (which happened to be right in our neck of the woods) I got giddily inspired and began focusing on that one, in particular. I pretty much worked on it non-stop till it was finished, and got it done just in time to bring its prints with us to that convention. Yay!

You ask about the challenges and enjoyment of painting my first Enterpise focused piece. The answer to both sides of that coin is the same...detail. Huge amounts of detail! I never realized how detailed that ship was compared to the "later" versions of her. The NX-01 has so many tiny parts and hull plates. There are so many seams and outlines that I needed to keep clear. Oh...that's another thing...my style. I'll give you the short version. I begin my paintings on a black canvas, so the outlines that you see are unlike "typical" outlines that are put on lastly over top of an image. My "outlines" are actually unpainted areas that have to remain totally unpainted during the entire process, so that the black canvas shows through. You can think of it as a kind of reverse painting. So, knowing that, painting something with a lot of detail...and a lot of lines...takes quite a bit longer than not. The detail in the NX-01 was both challenging and zen-like. I found that when I wasn't cursing my hand for making a near miss of a stroke, I was fully absorbed in the work and completely unaware of my surroundings. I found that balance of emotions quite enjoyable. In fact, the overall experience of concentrating on that amount of detail has influenced my next choice of subjects. I will be tackling intricate detain again in the near future.

Charity also sent me a couple of behind the scenes photos, showing how her NX-01 came together. So here's how that "reverse painting" works. Doesn't the ship look nice in black!

A round up of the latest Star Trek stuff you can wear, starting with the winning design from Her Universe and ThinkGeek's Make it Sew competition. Jeremy Sniatecki's EntHERprise, which cunningly turned the female gender emblem into the Enterprise, is the winner, and now available from ThinkGeek:

Lots of socks, and an imaginary T-shirt

Fear not, I've not gone crazy, the title refers simply to the latest Trek stuff from the ever-varied offerings of ThinkGeek. Their TOS mens socks have been available for some time now, but the pressures of equality have finally prevailed, so now ThinkGeek are offering a TOS uniform style sock for ladies too:

And there are more! For men and woman alike, they've applied the same idea to the TNG uniform, to create even more Star Trek socks!

In other ThinkGeek news, they have teamed up with Her Universe to launch a Star Trek T-shirt design competition, called Make It Sew. So any Trekkie-artists should have a look at the page detailing that, for a chance to make an official Her Universe Star Trek T-shirt design.

Her Universe's latest Starfleet uniform innovation

Her Universe have announced an assortment of new garments to be available at the Comic Con. Some of them are exclusive to the event, but the one Star Trek design in the bunch isn't, the new TOS science uniform V-Neck T-shirt:

This sort of completes a loose trilogy of Starfleet uniform variations from Her Universe, following on from the red shirt T-shirt, and the command tank-dress:

Latest additions to the Trekkies' wardrobe

There's a pretty constant stream of Star Trek T-shirts and other clothing from licensees all around the world. Here are some of the recent highlights for the discerning Trekkieista. Starting with one of the coolest Star Trek clothing makers, Her Universe, who cater exclusively for female trekkies. Their latest Star Trek T-shirt has a great all-the-way-round Khaaaaaan print:

All new from Her Universe is the latest variation on the TOS uniform, a command-style dress:

Latest Her Universe Trek-wear

Her Universe have released a new Star Trek T-shirt, featuring a poem of companionship for your beloved Trekkie girls:

In fact they've done the same sort of thing for Star Wars and Doctor Who as well. I think the Who shirt does the best job, thanks to the inherent focus on a relationship with a companion, and the smashing line "you are the fish fingers to my custard"!
