The Q Conflict #5 covers and preview

Out this week is the fifth issue of The Q Conflict, IDW's big multi-series crossover event, which as ever is brought to use by writers Scott and David Tipton, with David Messina returning after an issue off to pencil, with inks by Elisabetta D’Amico.

The cliffhanger ending involving the Prophets from the previous issue is wrapped up with surprising ease, leaving the multi-series crews able to deal with Borg for this issue's troublesome task. Thankfully Borg joining the adventure mean a nice selection of Borgy covers for this issue. Once more David Messina (and colourist Alessandra Alexakis) brings us both the A and B covers, forming a diptych featuring all the series ships facing a Borg cube. George Caltsoudas's latest retail incentive cover is a real highlight though, featuring an almost liquid Borg Queen, with other villineous aliens lurking in her shadow.

Lots of Star Trek comics updates and previews today, including some really nice new artwork. Continue below for all the latest from Year Five, The Q Conflict, DiscoveryWaypoint, and the Transformers crossover:

First up, Year Five cover artist J.J. Lendl has revealed his retail incentive covers for the first two issues in that new TOS series. Issue one is a retro one-sheet, and issue two a really cool travel poster for the probably inadvisable trip to the Tholian Assembly!

The previous Waypoint Special was only just released, but it's great to see another volume rushing up to bring us even more creative and diverse Star Trek stories. There's just one cover for this book, by Stephen Mooney, which IDW note isn't the final version yet. From it we can at least infer this book will include TOS, TNG, and Voyager stories.

Star Trek vs Transformers #3 preview

This week brings us the third issue of IDW's Star Trek vs Transformers crossover comic series, and the crossover potential is really paying of this time, with a particularly killer final page! As ever the book is penned by Mike Johnson and John Barber, with art from Philip Murphy.

Three different covers are available again, with Philip Murphy once more providing the A cover, this time featuring a whole gaggle of characters. The B cover by Gavin Fullerton has several Starfleet characters, but just one Transformer towering over them, but the best of the bunch is surely Megan Levens' (coloured by Charlie Kirchoff) featuring the female characters from the series, with a particularly majestic looking M'Ress.

January Star Trek comics

IDW have released their January solicitations, which include three new Star Trek books, and an omnibus. They pre-announced most of this month's big event releases a week or so ago, but did save one nugget of news for the solicitations; the Transformers crossover has been extended an extra issue! Continue below for all the details of the month's releases:

Star Trek vs. Transformers #5
Written by John Barber and Mike Johnson, with art by Philip Murphy
The stunning conclusion! As the Klingon-Decepticon alliance prepares to wipe out their enemies once and for all, Kirk and the Autobots make one last desperate bid to merge Cybertronian technology with Starfleet ingenuity. It’s a final conflict you won’t want to miss!
As IDW proudly proclaim, "Demand was so high, we’re doing another issue!". This surprise extra issue in the crossover will be offered in at least three covers, with apparently only the battle-worn retail incentive cover by Chris Panda so far revealed. The A cover will be by Philip Murphy, and the B by Josh Burcham.

Star Trek vs Transformers #1 preview

Out this week is the first issue in IDW's latest crossover comics series, Star Trek vs Transformers: Prime's Directive. The four-part series brings together the original animated series eras of both universes, with artist Philip Murphy and colourist Priscilla Tramontano taking us right back to the retro look of both series. The comic's writing duties are a crossover in themselves, bringing together Star Trek's Mike Johnson with Transformers' John Barber.

This first book is offered in four different covers, with Philip Murphy providing both the A and B covers, which form a diptych, featuring the Starfleet and Autobot characters on the A side, and the Klingons and Decepticons on the B side. There are also two retail incentive covers, with Paulina Ganucheau giving us a feline crossover, and Derek Charm riffing on the classic TAS promo art with a Transformers twist.

This book will be offered in three covers. The A cover by Philip Murphy has yet be released, but we can check out the rest. IDW's October Star Trek comics, and other updates

IDW have released their solicitations for October, which include two new Star Trek comics. Continue below for all the details of those, and other Star Trek comics updates.

Star Trek vs. Transformers #2
Written by John Barber and Mike Johnson, with art by Philip Murphy.
The Enterprise is burning, brought down by the united forces of the Klingons and Decepticons. The no-holds-barred Saturday morning mash-up continues!
Philip Murphy is also the A cover artist, and has released his cover, featuring Kirk transporting into or away from battling bots, via Twitter. IDW's September Star Trek comics, including a Transformers crossover

IDW have released their solicitations for September, which include two new Star Trek comics. One of those is something I'm frankly surprised has taken this long to happen, a crossover with one of IDW's biggest other licenses, Transformers! (They sort of indirectly crossover in the Infestation crossover a few years ago, but the two universes didn't actually interact in that instance). The most exciting thing about the crossover is that it's specifically with Star Trek: The Animated Series, so we can look forward to a particularly stylised series, featuring M'Ress and Arex! Continue below for all the details:

Star Trek vs. Transformers #1 (of 4)
Written by John Barber and  Mike Johnson, with art by Philip Murphy
The Transformers ‘80s cartoon series meets Star Trek: The Animated Series in a no-holds-barred Saturday Morning mash-up for the ages!

At the edge of Klingon space, the Starship Enterprise finds there's more to the final frontier than meets the eye, when Kirk and his crew come face to face with the strangest life forms of all: Cybertronians! This unprecedented crossover brings together two of the greatest science fiction universes of all time—in the style of their classic animated series! A five-year mission meets a four-million-year war!
If the aquashuttle doesn't turn out to have been a Transformer all along I'm going to be pretty disappointed!

The book will be available in at least four covers, and they've all been released already! The A and B covers are both by Philip Murphy, and featuring a connecting image, with the A cover featuring the Enterprise crew and their Transformer friends, and the B cover featuring the Klingons (one of them a cyborg!) and the Decepticons.
