Star Trek action figure prototypes at auction

PropStore have launched an auction of toys and collectables, which include numerous Star Trek lots. Among the items on offer are lots of well kept vintage toys, but perhaps more interestingly a whole load of prototypes from several different ranges. Continue below to check out the highlights:

One of the most unique items on offer is a prototype Klingon action figure, made by Playmates. At 6 inches tall, the quiet caricatured design would have been larger than Playmates normal 4.5 inch range. It seems a little reminiscent of the even larger Alien Combat figures that came towards the end of Playmates run; I wonder if this was an earlier take on the same idea.

Round 2 Model's Discovery model kit updates, and many reissues

Round 2 Models are zipping through their promised collection of Discovery starship model kits, with two already out, and a third coming soon. Continue below to check them all out, as well as details of reissues of Round 2 and Revell ships from other series:

The third Discovery kit will be the USS Enterprise, which like the previous Disco kits will be a 1:2500 scale model. The new box art for this has just started showing up with retailers; Entertainment Earth are expecting it as soon as next month!

Model kits updates: New announcements and releases from Round 2 Models and Moebius Models

Lots of Star Trek model kit news today, from both Round 2 Models' various prime timeline releases, and Moebius Models' Kelvin timeline kits.

First up the big news comes via Round 2's booth at WonderFest, where they have revealed plans for a potentially large range of Discovery kits. The USS Discovery at 1:2500 scale is expected to be the first release, coming some time in 2019, but many more options are being considered...

Round 2 Models reveal 1:350 K't'inga class model kit, plus other Star Trek model kit updates

Round 2 Models have been teasing some big Star Trek model kit news was coming, and have now revealed all, in the form of a glorious Polar Lights 1:350 scale kit of the iconic Klingon K't'inga class battlecruiser.

An ideal companion to their previous 1:350 kits of the USS Enterprise and refit USS Enterprise, this kit stand apart even from those impressive pieces thanks to it's insanely intricate detailing, with surface texture and tiny bits of somethings all over the ship. Continue below for a closer look and more details of this and other forthcoming releases.

Note these images are of a prototype, and any gaps or random bits of different colour plastic will be sorted out before the final kit goes into production.

Round 2 Models: New Oberth class, Klingon BoP, and Defiant, plus recent reissues

Round 2 Models are keeping themselves busy in the Star Trek universe lately, with several new model kits on the way, and a run recent reissues. Continue below to catch up with all their latest kits.

Tantalisingly, in a recent blog post they mentioned they are "working on another brand-new kit. It will be big, and probably unexpected" which they expect to release in August. But they're not ready to tell us what it is just yet. They have however announced something smaller already.

On the way is what I believe is the first ever kit of the Oberth class USS Grissom. They are releasing it at 1:1000 scale, in a two-pack of snap-kits with a Klingon Bird of Prey, which is also a new kit.

They have posted photos of mock-ups of both models on their blog, here are a few of those images, but there are many more on the original post, where you can also read about tweaks they will be making to these before the final release.

New starships Enterprise model kit set

Round 2 Models have posted a new blog giving details of their forthcoming USS Enterprise model kit set. For the first time the set includes models of every Enterprise from the NX-01 through to the NCC-1701-E at the same scale, 1:2500. Most of these are reissues of previous Cadet Series kits, but the NX-01 is brand new for this release. Continue below for more details.

Round 2 Models latest Star Trek model kits

Round 2 Models, makers of Star Trek model kits under the AMT and Polar Lights brands, has had a busy year of releases, and already has several kits lined up for 2017. Continue below to check out their latest and forthcoming kits.

Expected in the spring of 2017, all the Enterprises from the 1:2500 scale Cadet Series range have been combined into a single new model kit collection, which will also add a brand new Enterprise NX-01 to the series. The snap-kits are all molded in suitably coloured plastics, and come with pressure sensitive decal sheets, plus display stands.

Ships of the Line model kits on the way

Due out next month, Round 2 Models have announced a new range of Ships of the Line branded model kits! There will be four 1:2500 scale kits on offer, the TOS USS Enterprise, USS Reliant, USS Defiant, and Klingon D7. All the kits have previously been released as part of the Cadet Series range, but this time they come pre-painted, and as they are snap together kits too they'll be a quick way to build your own ships.

Each kit comes individually packaged, and is accompanied by a wide-format trading card, featuring related artwork from the Ships of the Line calendar series. The kits will be shipped in cases of twelve, with the Enterprise and Reliant being more common, with four of each in each case, while there will be two per case of the Defiant and D7s. So far only the Reliant has been previewed (image via Tower Hobbies).

Also new from Round 2 Models is their re-issue of the AMT USS Enterprise cutaway model kit. This 1:537 scale kit was first released a couple of decades ago, and the new release comes with an expanded decal sheet, a base, and a new box art (which you can check out after the jump, via Monsters in Motion):

Ship bits: Attack Wing ships, DST sounds, bobbling, and cutaway!

Lots of model ship updates for you here, including gaming miniatures, bobble-ships, model kits, and more! First up, Wizkids have announced two more waves of releases in their Attack Wing miniature game. Wave seventeen will be coming in August, and includes the USS Thunderchild, IKS T'Ong , and IRW Vrax.

Wave eighteen follows in September, and features the USS Phoenix, Species 8472 Bioship Beta, and Quark's Treasure.

New TOS starship model kits

Coming next year is a new TOS Romulan Bird of Prey model kit from Round 2 Models. I have previously previewed the new 1:1000 Polar Lights model itself, and now Things From Another World have added a listing, revealing the new box art. They are expecting this ship to reach us in March. Here's the description:

Few Star Trek ships are as popular or mysterious as the Romulan Bird-of-Prey. The villainous ship played a key role in the original series episode 'Balance of Terror.' The ship's iconic design and blazing bird graphic have been painstakingly researched to deliver the utmost in authenticity for this snap-together model kit. The kit features all decals needed to decorate the ship accurately.

Also newly listed by Things From Another World is another new release, the Build2gether USS Enterprise model kit set, which includes two different models of the original Enterprise, intended for parents or otherwise to indoctrinate, *ahem* inspire, their underlings in the art of starship building.

This AMT Build2gether set features 2 kits of the USS Enterprise that offers a great opportunity for seasoned sci-fi fans to share their interest with the next generation. It features an 18" long glue-together kit which is perfect for moderately-skilled modelers and features water slide decals to decorate the ship. An 11 1/2" long version of the ship is also included and features snap-together assembly for novice modelers. It also features a sticker sheet to supply all of the ship's markings.

I suspect this actually amounts to a reissue of both the existing Polar Lights 1:1000 kit and the AMT 1:650 kit. The new two-pack version is also expected in March.

Ship bits: Runabout, blueprints, model kits, and Borg Cube

Some assorted starships news here, starting with out first look at Eaglemoss's Danube class runabout model. What looks like it might be one of the highlights of the The Official Starships Collection, this will be making its way to the UK first in a couple of months, as issue thirty-two of the series. These images were posted on The Collection's Facebook page:

Meanwhile, new in ThinkGeek's catalogue is this cool poster of the original USS Enterprise, presented blue-print style. The center-piece of the poster is the cutaway diagram of the Enterprise from the USS Enterprise Haynes Manual.

Ship bits: Galor, Jem'Hadar, Reliant and the Enterprise-E

A few starship updates for you. First up, in the works from Round 2 Models is a new addition to their 1/2500 scale Cadet Series model kit range. The new DS9 themed collection will include the Defiant, Saratoga, and a Galor class. The Round 2 blog posted several photos of their prototype Galor class, which looks impressively detailed. Here are a few images, and you'll find more on Collector Model:

Another DS9-related release is coming from Eaglemoss who next month will release in the Jem'Hadar "bug" as issue twenty-nine of The Official Starships Collection. Forbidden Planet recently added a listing for this issue, including a nice high res image of another impressively detailed model:

Ship bits: Latest model kits, Starships Collection previews, and DST Excelsior

Lots of different model starships to look at today. First up Round 2 Model's latest model kits, as revealed recently at Wonderfest 2014. A few new ships were announced, including a DS9 themed addition to their Cadet Series, which already features a dozen different ships, all at 1:2500 scale. This new three-pack will include the USS Defiant, USS Saratoga, and a Galor class:

Also newly announced is their latest model at 1:1000 scale, the TOS Romulan Bird of Prey. They are hoping to have this ready in about a year.

And on display there were also plans for the new Shuttlecraft Galileo kit:

Round 2 are also planning to re-issue the AMT USS Enterprise cutaway model kit, and are currently looking at what (if any) modifications they might make before doing so. They hope to have this ready for 2015. You can see more from Round 2's Wonderfest display, on their blog.

If you prefer not to build your ships, then The Official Starships Collection is the series you need. Their website has recently been updated with new images of the Nebula class and Xindi Insectoid starship, which are coming soon as issues twenty-three and twenty-four.

Finally, DST have released an updated version of their USS Excelsior NX-2000 image, with the colours looking a bit more as we might hope they will appear on the model (the previous version was very saturated). This version of the Excelsior is expected in November:

Latest Round 2 box art

Star Trek Argentina has posted new box art for two forthcoming starship model kits from Round 2 Models. Due out this month is the latest re-issue of the AMT 1:1400 scale USS Enterprise-E model kit. The kit was first released in 1997 has had several re-releases over the years, the most recent being Round 2's first reissue back in 2009. The 2013 edition features new artwork by John Eaves:

Also revealed is the new box art for Round 2's re-release of the the 1:420 scale USS Defiant kit. According to Memory Alpha this one was first released in 1996, and hasn't seen a reissue since 1997! The new release is apparently due in February:

Trek Toys updates: Latest figures and props

A few bits of toy (and general collectables news), starting with the reveal of the next wave of Skele-Treks figures. The new range of Mexican inspired TOS and TNG characters is due to start in December with a collection of three five-inch tall figures, they are to be followed by six two-inch versions (of the same characters, joined by three others), in January. Now retailers are starting to list wave two of the smaller scale figures, which are expected in March. Those will be Uhura, a Mugato, Khan (Wrath of Khan style), Riker, Worf, and Deanna Troi. Ikon Collectables posted this artwork depicting the new characters:

At a somewhat larger scale, DST have revealed the packaging for their first TNG figure in the seven inch Star Trek Select range. Captain Picard and his broken Borg are expected in December. Here's how DST describe him:

Dynamically sculpted by Patrick Pigott, Art Asylum’s lead Star Trek figure sculptor since 2003, Picard’s default stance is firing a phaser at an unseen foe, but seven points of articulation in his upper body allow him a wide range of expressive poses. Also, his hands and legs are interchangeable with other figures in the Select line, which means you’ll be able to give him Mr. Spock’s classic Tricorder and Phaser. He stands atop a base representing the interior of a Borg cube, and the torso and arm of an exploded Borg rests at his feet. The parts are also removable from the base, so you can take them back to the Enterprise for study when the figure hits stores in late December.

If you prefer to be the one pointing a phaser at things, then there's good news from Round 2 Models. Last year they were planning to re-issue the "exploration set" (a set of prop model kits including the TOS phaser, communicator, and tricorder), but then pulled it from their schedule due to issues with the tooling. It would appear that has been remedied, as they have now relisted it on their website, and expect it to be out in January. They have also updated their packaging design.

Finally, for a fancier prop, QMx are offering a new set of commbadges are part of the variety of items items they are selling on Black Friday. The badges have been made using the original prop molds, and using the same techniques, with painted resin and velcro attachments to a plaque. Included are the TNG badge, and for the first time from QMx Voyager and Bajoran badges. There will be just a hundred in this format available:

QMx's other Black Friday offerings include the very limited edition ringship Enterprise replica model, a stand-alone release of the nuTrek phaser from the Amazon exclusive bluray set, and combo packs of their Trekkies figurines.

All sorts of new starships nearing launch

With the fortnightly Starships Collection now under-way, I've been talking a lot about the model and magazine series from Eaglemoss lately. But they certainly aren't the only starship builders in town; other shipyards, producing ships both larger and smaller, have also been busy lately.

Just released by Round 2 Models, is their latest version of the 1:1000 scale NX-01 model kit, which comes with new parts to build the refit design. Here's the box art, which features a new rendering of the NX-refit from Doug Drexler:

Round 2 have also recently added a listing for a re-release of their AMT 1:1400 scale Enterprise-E kit. They expect that to be available from November.

If you prefer your starships pre-built, then look no further than the latest addition to DST's ship range. They have announced a new battle damaged variant of the Enterprise-B, featuring Nexus inflicted wounds as seen in Generations. You can look forward to reenacting the "death" of Kirk next year:

You could also simulate a bit of space turbulence for the Enterprise with Bif Bang Pow's new USS Enterprise bobble-ship. That's coming in November according to Entertainment Earth:

Finally if you like your starships at a smaller scale, then you must surely be looking forward to this month's release of the third wave of ships in the Tactics Heroclix game. Latest Star Trek models from Round 2, and the Starships Collection

Round 2 Models were showing off many of their new Star Trek model kits at Wonderfest recently, and fortunately CultTVman was on hand to record what they previewed.

UPDATE: The writer of CultTVMan has expressed irritation at my sharing his images without seeking his permission before hand, so I have removed them at his request. If you would like to see the latest Round 2 Models please see his articles with photos of the ships which were on display, and a separate article with the bridge model kit.

My summary of the model kits on display, as reported by CultTVMan:

• Polar Lights 1:1000 scale USS Reliant.
• Coming some time next year, this new kit will be the third version of the Reliant in Round 2's range, joining the larger AMT 1:650 model, and the smaller 1:2500 Cadet Series version. The appeal of this size is presumably that it will be to scale with several other Polar Lights kits, including the refit USS Enterprise. Plans for this model were on display.
• Polar Lights 1:32 scale Shuttlecraft Galileo. 
• This set has been delayed, until at least late 2014, maybe even later. There were plans on display for this kit too.
• Polar Lights 1:1000 scale NX-01 refit.
• The first built model of this kit was on display, a re-issue of the existing 1:1000 scale NX-01, with additional parts to build it as the refit design.
• Polar Lights 1:1000 scale NCC-1701, Space Seed edition.
• Re-issue of the 1:1000 USS Enterprise with an additional new SS Botany Bay kit. The first look at a build of this kit was also on display.
• AMT USS Enterprise bridge.
• Re-issue of the AMT USS Enterprise bridge kit was also exhibited. This version of the bridge kit has additional components and characters, allowing you to build a complete, fully enclosed, bridge, unlike the original release.

UPDATE: A bit more news from the Starships Collection, they have announced they will be launching in Canada as well as the US, UK, and Ireland. They are looking to launch in other parts of Europe and Australia some time next year.

 

Slicing up the Enterprise - Cutaway Models and Diagrams

Dragon Model's latest Project Cutaway model has just been released by Diamond Select Toys, as part of their Star Trek range-  It's the TOS USS Enterprise, with transparent panels giving us a look inside saucer, neck, engineering section and a nacelle.

You can see more images of the model in my previous report. DST posted this photo, showing the packaging for this model, which even partially assembled looks pretty impressive:

Round 2 round-up; NX refit cometh!

A catch up of Round 2's AMT and Polar Lights Star Trek model kits, starting with what is surely the most exciting addition to their range: Round 2 have announced they will be re-releasing their Polar Lights 1:1000 scale NX-01 model kit in October, with additional parts to build it as the Doug Drexlr's refit design, as seen in Ships of the Line 2011. Here's their description:

The last Star Trek® telelvision show was simply called Enterprise™. It featured the predecessor to the famous U.S.S. Enterprise™ NCC-1701. The Enterprise™ NX-01 was the first insterstellar exploration craft. Though the shape was sleak, it lacked certain aspects that came with the expectations of an "Enterprise™". After the show wrapped up series production designer, Doug Drexler, took the ship's design to the next stage. By adjusting the warp engines a bit and adding a secondary hull, the NX-01 Refit bore a closer resemblance to the TOS version of the ship. This kit includes options to build either the NX-01 or, for the first time, the NX-01 Refit version of the Enterprise™.

They are also planning a re-release of the 1:350 scale NX-01 kit, which will also feature new Drexler box art as well. That one is coming in June:

Moving on to the next Enterprise, September will see a re-release of the 1:1000 scale TOS USS Enterprise, and this time they're making it a Space Seed edition, by throwing in a new Botany Bay model:

In July they will be re-issuing the AMT TOS bridge module, and adding loads of extra parts to really round it out:

The set of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 became memorable as the primary location for many of Star Trek's best episodes. The model kit set originally released by AMT in the mid seventies supplied modelers with an opportunity to build a set of their own. The kit is now re-released with the key addition of new figures and added details. Spock's and Sulu's scopes are present for the first time in the set. Parts to build six figures are included with options to build Kirk, Spock, Bones, Sulu, Checkov, Ohura, Scotty or other "red shirts". Additional wall sections are also included for the first time to allow the set to be built completely in the round. New updated decals are included for accurate displays.

Round 2's brand new 1:350 scale TOS USS Enterprise is also out now, as art kits to give it cool lighting effects or to build it as either of the pilot versions.

 

Not to the leave the various Enterprise's without anyone to bother them, also recently re-released are the Klingon K'tinga class, and a cool new version of the D7 with Romulan decals:

June will see a re-release of their Spock figurine, this time coming in one of their retro lunch-tins:

Finally there are more Cadet Series mini-ship model sets coming. Available imminently is the new TOS three pack, containing the USS Enterprise from the previous Cadet Series release, joined by new a Romulan Bird of Prey, and Klingon D7:

While out already is the TOS movie-era three pack, with the refit Enterprise again previously released, with new Miranda class and K'tinga class kits:
