Where are the prime kreons hiding?

Remember, just less than a year ago, when Hasbro announced the details of the Star Trek Kre-o range, they mentioned plans for individual kreon figurines as well? There was to be a series of six nuTrek characters, released alongside the main wave of Into Darkness sets, and then later in the year, twelve more prime-timeline characters.

A little while later a German online retailer released the images to the right, of six of those prime figures. But then nothing seemed to happen, I assumed the line had been cancelled - Until one of my readers mentioned they had in fact all been released last year, in the Philippines at least. A couple of Filipino bloggers have reported on wave 2, thanks to TrekToy poster 1701 I came across The Geeky Guide to Nearly Everything's report, and Youtuber chefatron also posted a review. Between the two we can get a fairly good look at these figures, even if the rest of the world might be doomed to never actually see them in the flesh.

Here's the full line-up, with a few extra Borg drones thrown in for good measure:

The characters and packet codes are as follows:
  • 31491-11 - Captain Kirk
  • 31491-12 - Spock
  • 31491-13 - Worf
  • 31491-14 - General Chang
  • 31491-15 - Borg Drone
  • 31491-16 - Locutus
  • 31491-17 - Gul Dukat
  • 31491-18 - Khan Noonien-Singh
  • 31491-19 - Salt Vampire
  • 31491-20 - Mugato
  • 31491-21 - Quark
  • 31491-22 - Andorian Soldier
Here's a closer look at the Borg figures:

Hasbro have released two addition Star Trek Kre-O sets since the first wave, so maybe the line is still ongoing, hopefully we'll get more information at the next Toy Fair. Until then, for the best look at each of these characters you're likely to get outside the Philippines, have a watch of the (quite lengthy) Youtube review (after the jump):

Trek Toys, loads of them!

All of a sudden there seems to be an abundance of new Star Trek toy information! So here's a look at the many varied Star Trek play things on the way:

First up, just when maybe you were thinking the nuTrek toy range might be winding down after Into Darkness, Hasbro have released another set in the Kre-O collection. This Toys'r'us exclusive appears to be a reissue of the USS Enterprise set, but come with battle damage stickers, and a wholly new Klingon battle cruiser model! Also included is the first Chekov Kreon figure, and new uniform variants of other characters.

Square Enix will be giving us another rather stylised take on the Trekverse, with their new Star Trek action figures, from their Play Arts KAI range. They displayed the painted versions of these for the first time at the New York Comic Con. The photo below comes from Cool Toys Review's coverage of the display. You can get a closer look at them in other photos in Cool Toys' gallery, and if you really want to scrutinise them, Toy News International, Toy Ark, and Tomopop have all posted galleries too!

Continue after the jump for news of many more figures and ship models on the way:

First look at Kre-O USS Vengeance

Target have added a listing to their website for a new set in the Star Trek Kre-O range, the USS Vengeance. It is currently listed as "unavailable" and "not sold in stores", with no indication of a release date - Hopefully this just means those details haven't been put up yet, rather than this being a lost cancelled set.

It seems like a pretty good representation of the ship, although of course it takes more liberties with the design than the Hot Wheels version, the only other model of the ship at the moment. It appears to be using the same nacelle strut element as the Enterprise set, which make the nacelles a bit close to each other, and it appears to have a cockpit element in the bridge area of the ship to house the crew. The kreon figures included are stow-away Scotty, two generic "specialists", and the "specialist captain" aka Admiral Marcus. Check her out:

We knew Hasbro had plans for additional releases after Into Darkness, I posted images of the first of two planned additional series of the Kreon figures a couple of months ago for instance. But it's great to see that appearing to actually be happening. Playmates also planned to add more toys to their range from the previous film, but cancelled them after their line of toys flopped. Hopefully the Vengeance is the first reveal in a second wave of sets.

New Fighter Pod images

Amazon has posted new high quality images of the final of the four Fighter Pods Attack Pods, the "Star Surger". According to the packaging, and the Fighter Pods leaflet, this is meant to come with Spock as the set figure. But as you can see, it is packaged with a Klingon in the non-random figure area. The images of the Blade Blaster had the same oddity, with the Klingon it is meant to come with being swapped for Spock. The three randomly selected figures photographed with with particular version of the Star Surger are McCoy, another Klingon, and the alien called Dexter.

Having now seen Into Darkness, I can imagine a way in which these weirdly un-Trek-like Attack Pods could have been inspired by the film. It's a bit of a stretch though... See the rest of the range in my previous two reports.

Star Trek Kre-O animation

Back when Star Trek Kre-O sets were first announced, we were promised an animated film alongside the release of the toys, and today Hasbro has posted that on Youtube. The film uses a black hole as a cute way to transition the real nuTrek universe into an alternate brick-based reality; using a Kreon-scale Kre-O Enterprise rather than the actual USS Enterprise toy design. Check it out:

This film ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, I wonder if there'll be a part two...

In other Kre-O news, the Awesome Toy Blog has posted some handy information to cheat in finding the Star Trek Kreon figures you want in the blind bags. Each bag has a code, which corresponds to the figure inside; so you can pick out exactly the ones you want without having to squish them for hours... Handy if you want a complete set, or to build an army of Klingons (or Keensers...). The codes are:
  • 30711 05 Captain Nero
  • 30711 06 Keenser
  • 30711 07 Lieutenant Sprog
  • 30711 08 Klingon
  • 30711 09 Gorn
  • 30711 10 Grasia
For a look at the entire Star Trek Kre-O range, check out my previous article, with images and details of each set.

New images and details of the Star Trek Fighter Pods range

Last week the first good images of the new Star Trek Fighter Pods toys started to appear. Now StarTrek.com and Toys'r'us have started to release more images, giving us a look at most of the rest of the line. John Tenuto also posted photos of the USS Enterprise set on Flickr, giving a good look at that set's features, as well as photographing a booklet detailing the entire range. Even if you're not that keen on the toys, this particular bit might interest you, as it names many of the nuTrek aliens for the first time (I've stuck John's photos together for ease of reference here):

This also reveals that the figurines in each set vary. Each attack pod comes with one set figure, and three randoms, the larger Enterprise set comes with six figurines all together, but two of those are random as well.

Here are the official images of the Fighter Pods USS Enterprise, which comes with an attack pod stowed in the engineering hull, and a bridge playset in the saucer section, which can comfortably accommodate the six figurines that come with it. Of those six, four will always be Kirk, Uhura, volcano Spock, and grey uniform McCoy. Pictured here are Brian and Dexter as the two mystery figurines:

I previously posted images of three of the four attack pod sets. There still don't seem to be images of the fourth. That just leaves the smaller figurines sets. There will be blind bags, each containing two figurines and two pods. The bags look like this:

There are also two larger blister pack sets which each have four figurines and two pods. I believe that again, three figurines in each of these sets will be random, with Kirk and Spock in each set being the only constants.

Pictures here in the Kirk set are Brian, Grasia, and Cask:

While with Spock are Uhura, Madeline, and Sprog:

There are thirty-six figurines in the series. If you got the Enterprise, all four attack pods, and the two-four packs, picking them so not to get duplicates, that would give you thirty - Leaving you just six characters to find either by careful selection of duplicate larger sets, or by living dangerously and seeking them out in the blind bags.

First look at Star Trek Fighter Pods

Listings for Star Trek Fighter Pods toys have started to appear on Amazon, giving us the first clear looks at the game and some of the new figurines. Each of the sets so far listed comes with this general description:
Prepare for an incredible journey through the deepest reaches of the known universe with the heroic crew of the Starship Enterprise. Captain Kirk leads his crew of intrepid explorers on dangerous, Galaxy-spanning adventures. Facing off against menacing aliens, unknown threats from the distant past and the unknown future, and diabolical villains who lurk around every corner, Captain Kirk, Spock and the others protect the United Federation of Planets from evils great and small. The Star Trek universe is getting even bigger with the debut of Star Trek Fighter Pods. These small figures bring big attitude and incredible action to your space-faring adventures. Collect them all and let the battle begin.
There will apparently be thirty-six figurines in the first series. The idea is to collect the figures, and play with them, using them as both targets and ammunition for the launching and rolling toys in the series. So far three "attach pod launchers" have become available. Each comes with an "attack pod", which in some novelty way launches one of the four figurines in each pack.

Here is the bright orange "Blade Blaster", which has a "photon ram" as its way of attacking. This comes with caricatured versions of: Spock, in a silver uniform possibly the new Starfleet wetsuit from Into Darkness; an Orion, that I presume to be Gaila, in her underwear; a Gorn, from Star Trek: The Video Game; and the multi-faced alien Quocch, from the deleted scenes of the first film, and the Nero comic series.

Next there's the "Phantom Striker", which attacks with "Pop-out combat fins". The figures in this pack are:Kirk and Sulu, both in grey uniforms which again look like the new wetsuits (but are darker than Spock's silver one above); a Klingon; and Keenser.

Finally, for now, is the "Ninja Star", with burst to life with the use of "snap-out battle blades". This one comes with: Two redshirts, which I guess might be Scotty and Chekov; a Klingon (same one as the above set); and Nero.

There will also be a fourth attack pod, called the "Star Surger". In addition to these, there will be a larger USS Enterprise set, which houses an addition attack pod in the engineering section, while the bridge opens to reveal a playset for the figurines. Amazon does have a listing for the Enterprise, but no images yet. On top of that there will be smaller sets with figurines, and the eponymous fighter pod balls that the game is based around. You can get an idea of the rest of the range from my previous coverage of the Toy Fair displays.

First look at prime reality Kreon figures

A German website, Toy Palace, has posted the first images of the second wave of Star Trek Kre-O Kreon figures, which are all based on prime reality characters. The Wave includes: Kirk and Spock, both armed with phasers and lirpas; Worf and General Chang, with a bat'leth and disruptor respectively, Quark, who has shorter legs than the rest and comes with a tray of drinks; and my favourite by far, Shran! Who has an Andorian weapon. Check them out:

Meanwhile Entertainment Earth has posted an image of the blind bag design for the series one Kreons, which are all nuTrek aliens. They come in these:

The first wave of Kreons are due out with the rest of the Into Darkness Kre-O sets next month (images here), the second and third waves are due to follow later in the year.

Latest nuTrek aliens

Toyark have posted images of the Star Trek Kre-O range, including a new image of the series one Kreon figure collection. There is a little glitch, in that the whip thing the Gorn is holding is in fact it's tail... For a close look at the entire range, check out my previous report.

The Gorn are also highlighted in StarTrek.com's latest report on Star Trek: The Video Game; their last guide to the Gorn castes to be featured in the game. This time we meet the warrior:

The Warrior is the next evolution step above the Gorn Initiate, but still closely resembles a wild animal/beast when in combat. Equipped with basic armor, the genetically enhanced Warrior is intelligent enough to operate weaponry such as the Pillager and the Arc Driver.
And finally, TrekMovie have updated their latest gallery of Star Trek Into Darkness images with this behind-the-scenes shot of Keenser (Deep Roy) and JJ Abrams:

New images of the Star Trek Kre-O sets and packaging

Amazon has added listings for the new Star Trek Kre-O construction sets, with new high resolution images giving us a much better look at the sets, and their packaging, as well as blurbs for the sets, highlighting some of their features (complete with rather odd selection of words in quotation marks). I've chopped it out of each blurb below, but each starts with "Build your own Star Trek adventures with this awesome Kre-O construction set!" and ends with the rather cute "Boldly build what you haven't built before with [insert subject of set here]"

Any new clues about Star Trek Into Darkness here? Maybe, the space dive set mentions a "Federation Special Ops" kreon figure (presumbly the figure that appears to be John Harrison). The transporter set also describes what the set design implies; Scotty having to beam a Klingon away (from where? to where?). The Klingon Bird-of-Prey set might also be giving us a clue, suggesting Kirk and Uhura need to avoid being taken hostage by the Klingons. And of course the USS Enterprise's inclusion of the "specialist" kreon figures, in the alternate Starfleet uniform, remains a bit of an enigma.

There're lots of images, so more sets and information after the jump!

TOS Kre-O set with Star Trek video game pre-orders!

Game Stop have announced an additional pre-order bonus for Star Trek: The Video Game (beside the in-game weapons and uniforms pack), in the form of the first prime-timeline Star Trek Kre-O construction set. As long as you are a member of their PowerUp Rewards loyalty scheme (which is free to join), you'll receive a mini TOS USS Enterprise Kre-O set and a "collectible poster" with pre-orders of the game. Here's the little ship that can be yours:

This "bonus" set appears to be about the same size as the range of micro build starships in the main Kre-O range. Check out my article looking at the official images of the whole range, as well as photos from the Toy Fair. And to keep up to date with everything about Star Trek: The Video Game and other Star Trek Into Darkness tie-ins, keep an eye on my Star Trek Into Darkness guide page.

A closer look at Star Trek Fighter Pods

Announced along-side the Star Trek Kre-O range Hasbro have also been showing off what seems to be their only other Star Trek Into Darkness toy range at the Toy Fair, the Star Trek Fighter Pods game. The Fighter Pods will be available exclusively at Toys'r'us, and are based on the same game already available in a Star Wars variety, featuring miniature stylised figurines, and "pods" which the figures can be put inside of, on top of, or just be knocked over with. The pods also connect, and can be launched from model ships. Like the Star Wars range, the new Star Trek line will offer lots of different characters, and variants, in sets of a variety of sizes ranging from a a handful of figurines and pods, up to large vehicle sets - This format gives the game an inherent collectability, and also allows you to play it at any scale, with just a few figurines, or with massive armies.

The new Star Trek range appears to be based on characters from the new timeline (although if it's successful I'm sure they'll expand it to the prime reality, as they already plan to with the Kreon range). The first wave includes a wide variety of characters, offering the first ever representations of many characters and species. Here's a look at the full range on display:

Star Trek Kre-O at the Toy Fair

We've had a good look at the new Star Trek Kre-O sets coming soon from Hasbro, in official images released to the web. But they are also on display at Hasbro's booth at the Toy Fair this weekend, which gives us a closer look at some of the sets, and an idea of the packaging designs. So here are the Star Trek Kre-O sets on the booth:

USS Enterprise playset

Here is the box, plus views of the complete ship, the kreon figures (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and two "specialists", the latter two are apparently bad guys), interior views of the bridge, and inside the nacelles:

Klingon Bird of Prey
The new Klingon design coming in Star Trek Into Darkness. it will be interesting to see if Hasbro have played with the scale (as they have with the Enterprise), or whether this ship is actually more of a fighter sized ship, rather than the traditionally larger Bird of Prey designs. Comes with Kirk, Uhura, and two Klingons.
