Review: Star Trek Select Borg action figure

Diamond Select Toys have just released the latest character in their Star Trek Select range of action figures; a Borg drone. Being a generic alien rather than a specific major character, this is a bit of a change for the range. The format is also a little different, a fully articulated figure, rather than the more sculptural style featured in most of the previous releases, and a lot of modular components instead of the scene setting props that most of the other characters in the range have come with. DST updates: Latest action figure, ships, and props

Diamond Select Toys have released new preview images of their forthcoming Star Trek action figures. Continue below to check out those, plus news of lots of reissues.

First up DST have released packaging shots of the Star Trek Select Kelvin timeline Kirk and Spock figures, which are due for release next month. These new images show off the generous range of accessories each figure comes with nicely!

Action figure updates: Mego wave 2, DST and McFarlane previews, and standees

Lots of Star Trek action figure updates today, including new previews of forthcoming Diamond Select Toys and McFarlane action figures. Continue below for those.

But first we have our first look at the at the Star Trek figures in wave two of Marty Abrams Presents Mego revival range. Joining Sulu, Chekov and mirror Kirk and Spock from the first assortment, we will soon be able to get Spock and the Gorn.

TrekMovie posted this nice clear images of the Spock figure, which Mego Museum have found a packaged shot of. This is of course very close to the original Mego Spock figure from the 70s.

Khan, USS Reliant, Minimates and more on the way from DST

At last week's New York Toy Fair Diamond Select Toys revealed several new Star Trek toys they have in the works, including a new action figure, a new ship, and the return of Star Trek Minimates. Continue below for all the details.

Khan was only recently announced as the subject of DST's fifth Star Trek Select figure, and now they have revealed him in all his glory. The Star Trek Select line typically features semi-sculptural figures in a diorama setting, and this time we're getting the movie-era Khan with the bridge chair from the Reliant. These figures often come with parts to allow multiple display options, and Khan will have several arms, as well as alternate legs to allow him to sit in the chair. The alternate legs weren't on display, but the arms were, and were switched around over the course of the show, so below you can see him with both crossed arms and a pointy finger!

Latest Star Trek figures: Retro cloth, Femme Fatales, Mystery Minis, Bobble-heads and more

A round up of the latest Star Trek action figures and figurines for you today, including TOS and TNG characters in quite a variety of styles.

First up, a new twist on a classic, in the latest retro cloth figures from Diamond Select Toys. After recreating the classic Mego figures a few years ago, and adding a few new characters while they were at it, DST are currently in the midst of reissuing the range in time for the anniversary year. But they're also expanding it once more! Due to arrive in May, the latest pair of figures will be a Cheron, and a red shirt. Now we've had a Cheron figure before, but this time they're switching the black and white sides, so you can complete your recreation of Let That Be Your Last Battlefield, with Lokai to pair with the previously release Bele. The new generic security man has a twist too, as there will be two variants on offer, with either brown or black hair, and one with officer rank stripes.

Romulan Bird of Prey, Worf bust bank, and other DST updates

At the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Diamond Select Toys have revealed their next all new electronic starship toy, the Romulan Bird of Prey - This was first displayed at the Toy Fair earlier in the year, but photography wasn't allowed, so now the rest of the world can see it in all its glory. New from DST: A well armed Worf, and the USS Excelsior

The fourth figure in Diamond Select Toys Star Trek Select range, Worf, is currently finding his way to retailers, and to mark the release DST has released a collection of images to show off this TNG TV-era rendition of the character. This version of  Worf comes with a phaser, phaser rifle, bat'leth, and an assortment of arms to hold them in a variety of poses. So he is *pun warning* certainly well armed... He also has the option of different hair styles, and a display base sporting the Klignon logo. More images after the jump, as well as updates on DST starship models:

Trek toys: Latest bobble-head, Funko, and DST figures

Some new Star Trek figures, mostly Klingons, to look at here.

First up, Entertainment Earth have added another Bif Bang Pow bobble-head to their catalogue, the Klingon Kruge, from The Search For Spock, which is due out this month along-side the new TOS-movie-era crew bobble-heads:

Meanwhile it appears Funko are at work on a new range of TNG characters for their Pop! vinyl range of figures. PopVinyl.net have posted images of prototypes of Deanna Troi, and two versions of Worf, in either Starfleet or Klingon uniforms:

When these are released, they will join the existing TOS and The Big Bang Theory Star Trek Pop! vinyl figures.

Finally, Toyark have posted Diamond Select Toys' latest round of solicitations, including the new Star Trek Select Worf figure. That means they also posted a higher resolution version of the recently released image of the new figure. Check that out after the jump:

Trek Toys updates: Latest figures and props

A few bits of toy (and general collectables news), starting with the reveal of the next wave of Skele-Treks figures. The new range of Mexican inspired TOS and TNG characters is due to start in December with a collection of three five-inch tall figures, they are to be followed by six two-inch versions (of the same characters, joined by three others), in January. Now retailers are starting to list wave two of the smaller scale figures, which are expected in March. Those will be Uhura, a Mugato, Khan (Wrath of Khan style), Riker, Worf, and Deanna Troi. At a somewhat larger scale, DST have revealed the packaging for their first TNG figure in the seven inch Star Trek Select range. Captain Picard and his broken Borg are expected in December. Here's how DST describe him:

Dynamically sculpted by Patrick Pigott, Art Asylum’s lead Star Trek figure sculptor since 2003, Picard’s default stance is firing a phaser at an unseen foe, but seven points of articulation in his upper body allow him a wide range of expressive poses. Also, his hands and legs are interchangeable with other figures in the Select line, which means you’ll be able to give him Mr. Spock’s classic Tricorder and Phaser. He stands atop a base representing the interior of a Borg cube, and the torso and arm of an exploded Borg rests at his feet. The parts are also removable from the base, so you can take them back to the Enterprise for study when the figure hits stores in late December.

If you prefer to be the one pointing a phaser at things, then there's good news from Round 2 Models. Last year they were planning to re-issue the "exploration set" (a set of prop model kits including the TOS phaser, communicator, and tricorder), but then pulled it from their schedule due to issues with the tooling. It would appear that has been remedied, as they have now relisted it on their website, and expect it to be out in January. They have also updated their packaging design.

Finally, for a fancier prop, QMx are offering a new set of commbadges are part of the variety of items items they are selling on Black Friday. The badges have been made using the original prop molds, and using the same techniques, with painted resin and velcro attachments to a plaque. Included are the TNG badge, and for the first time from QMx Voyager and Bajoran badges. There will be just a hundred in this format available:

QMx's other Black Friday offerings include the very limited edition ringship Enterprise replica model, a stand-alone release of the nuTrek phaser from the Amazon exclusive bluray set, and combo packs of their Trekkies figurines.

DST update: Select figures and Minimates

Diamond Select Toys have announced another new Toys'r'us exclusive product; coming soon will be the Kirk and Spock figures from the Star Trek Select range, offered at Toys'r'us with new bases which join up to make a little diorama. The bases come in place of the large pieces of scenery and mass of other accessories (including secondary characters) which come with the more widely distributed Select versions of the figures. StarTrek.com have released the first images, and a video of Diamond Select Toy's next Star Trek starship, one of the finest ships in all Trek history, the USS Excelsior. They say she'll be with us some time in the fall. Check her out:

StarTrek.com has posted new images of forthcoming Diamond Select Toys releases, including this first look at the Star Trek Select Picard figure:

Picard will be coming in the autumn, following the launch of the Star Trek Select line with Kirk and Khan and Spock and the Horta, due next month. StarTrek.com also suggest DST's new First Contact variant of their USS Enterprise-E model is coming out next month. Can you spot the differences in the paint job from the Nemesis version?

Also due out next month is the Minimates USS Enterprise, the DST Facebook page posted this photo demonstrating the plastic insert tray for the packaging of the mirror universe version:

DST's Toy Fair reveals

Star Trek toys stalwart, Diamond Select Toys, was another of the Star Trek licensors at Toy Fair the past weekend, and used it to show several new items coming from them.

A check list of the previous Star Trek Minimates

Last month they announced the relaunch of the Star Trek Minimates line with Star Trek Legacy Minimates Series 1, which had they had on display along some more new Trek Minimates! These additional characters will be Toys'r'us exclusives in North America. On show were:

• Picard and a Borg drone, which have been released as a Minimates two-pack before, however both characters are new designs; a different Borg drone, and Picard in his jacket uniform.
• Sisko and Dukat, which have also been released as Minimates before, but again are new designs this time.
• Janeway and Seven of Nine, which will be the first ever Voyager Minimates!

According to DST on Facebook the TRU exclusive series will be finished off with a fourth pairing; TOS Kirk and Khan, the younger companions to the Wrath of Khan versions in the non-exclusive series. Here's what the three pairs on display look like (images via Action Figure Insider):

 

Also on display was some artwork for some new items. DST's new Star Trek Select range of action figure/sculptures/dioramas is set to launch later this year with the release of the Spock and Horta, and Kirk vs Khan sets. A third release appears to be planned in the form of a Picard figure, firing his phaser while standing over a fallen Borg drone:

Finally, so far as new stuff goes, they had the Project Cutaway USS Enterprise on display, giving us a chance to see how they've cut into the saucer section:

Latest Trek toy news

First seen at the Comic Con several weeks ago, DST has now officially announced details and released images of their first Star Trek Select figure, Mr Spock and the Horta. Part way between action figure and sculpture, the select range comes with diorama scenic elements and interchangeable parts, which allow you, in this instance, to present Spock interacting with the Horta, or as a free-standing figure:

 

For years, Star Trek fans have repeatedly opened hailing frequencies, demanding the return of 7-inch Star Trek figures — well, Diamond Select has heard their transmissions! This winter, DST plans to release the first in a line of Star Trek Select figures, depicting iconic characters from across the Star Trek universe in the 7-inch scale fans have asked for. Each figure will come in DST’s famous Select packaging, and will include a diorama-style display base as well as interchangeable parts to recreate scenes using that diorama. And the first release in the line is the most iconic Star Trek character of all, Mr. Spock!

Depicting Mr. Spock as he appears in the classic episode “Devil in the Dark,” this figure includes a cave diorama with a Horta alien — the first Horta toy ever made! Spock himself will have interchangeable legs for standing or crouching poses, and interchangeable hands to hold a phaser or establish a mental link with the Horta. He even comes with an alternate screaming head! The figure will be available in early 2013, and will be followed by James T. Kirk, as well as numerous other important and fan-requested characters from the Star Trek diaspora. The Marvel Select line celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, so here’s to (at least) ten years of Trek Select!

Elsewhere in the DST workshops preparations are being made for the latest re-issues of some of their Star Trek props, this time putting their phaser, communicator, and tricorder together into a TOS landing party three-pack, which is also expected early next year:

DST have also teased at the packaging for their forthcoming starship models, the Klingon Bird-of-Prey and USS Enterprise-B:

Away from DST, Round 2 have announced the results of their fan poll to determine the next ship they will make a model kit of, and that will be a 1:32 scale TOS Shuttlecraft Galileo.
