Star Trek for your desk

If your office lacking that dash of final frontier? Your desk just not going boldly enough? Well continue below for a look through the latest Star Trek stuff to spruce up your home office, including all sorts of gadgets, bookmarks, and magnets.

But first, paper weights! Icon Heroes' latest creations are Kirk and Spock statue paper weights. Captain Kirk is seven-and-a-half inches tall, while Spock is almost eight. Made of resin, they should arrive in October.

Klingon Mimobot coming to Comic Con

The new nuKlingon Mimobot is the latest addition to impressive array of Star Trek stuff available at this year's San Diego Comic Con. There will be just a thousand of the Klingons available, which is the first nuTrek and first non-Starfleet character so far in Mimco's Star Trek Mimobot range. Like all the Mimobots, the little Klingon comes pre-loaded with an assortment of themed wallpapers and icons, and is available in a variety of storage sizes. Here he is, with his helmet on and off, along with examples of the digital content:

You might recall I've posted about this little guy before, as he is also offered as an exclusive with pre-orders of Star Trek Into Darkness home video releases form Walmart in Canada. Mimco tell me the Walmart offering is part of the one-thousand limited edition, five-hundred of which are available to order directly from Mimco on their website.

nuKlingon Mimobot coming with exclusive Into Darkness home video releases

Details of another exclusive release of Star Trek Into Darkness on home video have been revealed. Walmart will be offering an exclusive new Mimobot USB stick/figurine, based on the nuTrek Klingons; the lid is the helmet, which slides off to reveal the Klingon face beneath:

So far I can only see this listed on the Canadian Walmart online shop, which is offering it with the 3D bluray, bluray, and DVD releases of Into Darkness, as well as a bluray two-pack with both Into Darkness and the 2009 film.

Amazon in the UK are also offering an Into Darkness/Star Trek two-pack, on either bluray or DVD.

The other exclusive edition of Into Darkness so far announced is Amazon's version which comes with a QMx phaser replica. TrekCore have released some photos showing off the prop from more angles:

There are more photos on TrekCore. So far Amazon.com and Amazon.fr are offering the phaser exclusive, the latter with the bluray in steelbook packaging.

Latest Trek gadgets: USB, iphone, and gaming

A few new Star Trek gadgety bits to share with you. Starting with the fifth character to join the Star Trek Mimobot range of USB stick people. This time Mr Sulu joins the crew, in a limited edition of 1000. Like the other characters he is available in a variety of capacities. In fact the highest capacity Sulu can hold twice that of the best of the previous four, with options ranging from eight to one-hundred-and-twenty-eight gigabytes, as well as a thirty-two gigabyte USB3 version. He looks like this:

Also good for when you're on the go are the latest Star Trek iphone cases. We've seen quite a few Trek iphone cases before, but these ones are a cut above the previous printed designs, using real fabric and 3D badges to make your phones look like TNG uniforms. PowerA have released all three TNG uniform colours, and according to StarTrek.com have plans for TOS designs later in the year.

Finally, for when you're back home, and have drained your PS3 or X-box 360 controllers playing Star Trek: The Video Game, Will Technology have released new console controller docks; to recharge your controllers, while perched above a curiously distorted version of the USS Enterprise saucer:

Latest Star Trek gadety bits

StarTrek.com have announced a new range of Star Trek mobile device accessories, which are appearing in the UK now. There are cases for your iphone 4 or 5, complete with stylus:

There are also bags for your ipads (or tablet computer of your choosing). If you look closely at the styluses that come with these you might notice they've snuck a QUOGs character on each:

On the subject of USB, things, I neglected to report on the Mimobot Star Trek range which launched a little while ago. So if you've not seen them yet, have a look: There are Mimobots characters from all sorts of other franchises, the first Star Trek ones are Kirk, Spock, Picard, and Data, with more due out later this year:

More than a mere USB, thing, they come preloaded with all sorts of Star Trek stuff, as this video explains (alongside a funny little animation):



Perhaps the coolest thing about these is the incredible tale of where they got the Data sound clips, which Mimoco's Scott Seraydarian told StarTrek.com about:

All the content was coming together well… except we were having trouble tracking down decent Data sounds. There was a rumor that there might be a rare, out-of-circulation sound collection that Brent Spiner custom-recorded for a sound software in the mid-90’s. My mantra in general is: “Patience Pays”… and in this case it paid dividends. The CBS team finally found the old set of the 3.5” floppy disks. We had a feeling that they were good and worth the trouble, but had the pressing challenge of finding a mid-90’s Mac with a working floppy disc-drive. A few weeks passed and finally a few old machines were found in a CBS storeroom. But the euphoria was short-lived once we realized we could access the discs but had no way of getting the sounds off the machines. You have to keep in mind these beautiful relics were pre-wifi, even pre-USB ports! As John said “Nothing like working with brand new, state-of-the-art, sealed in package 1993 technology!”

Our deadline was quickly approaching and we were preparing to throw in the towel when the CBS team came through with an external zip drive… the sounds needed to be cleaned up, but they were fabulous better then I was even hoping for!
