STO updates

The latest Star Trek Online special task force mission has been released, here's how Cryptic describes it:

Our latest Special Task Force mission, "Undine Terradome," presents all new challenges and introduces a new menace to Admiral-ranked players.

It all starts simply enough: You're tasked with investigating a strange energy signature, but things quickly take a turn for the dangerous when you uncover an Undine terradome! As you investigate its exterior, you'll happen upon a Federation ship captained by none other than Akira Sulu, Admiral Quinn's stalwart officemate back on Earth Space Dock. Something seems off about him, though ....

Once you've sufficiently pacified the space surrounding the terradome, you'll beam down to its decks and discover some familiar surroundings: Inside, it looks very similar to DS9. The Undine are planning to invade Federation space!

As you make your way through the Undine DS9, you'll rescue captured Federation officers, eventually moving to the bowels of the terradome to engage the Undine mastermind behind the invasion plan. Can you prevent the invasion from occurring? Play "Special Task Force: Undine Terradome" to find out!

Cryptic have also announced their plans for future updates, these include a bunch of little updates in the near future, and plans for "season 2" (coming before the end of July) including:
-Federation Diplomatic Corps
-Faction-free episodes
-Klingon-exclusive episodes
-Bumping the cap
-Ship interiors
-Weekly content, with new missions coming on a regular basis.

Paths of Disharmony blurb

The Simon and Schuster website has been updated with a new blurb for The Typhon Pact novel Paths of Disharmony:

On a diplomatic mission to the planet Andor, Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise-E bear witness to the rank devastation resulting from the Borg invasion. With the reproductive issues that have long plagued the Andorian people reaching crisis level, avenues of research that at first held great promise have proven largely unhelpful, and may well indeed be worsening the problem.

Despite the Federation's seeming inability to provide assistance and growing doubt over its commitment to a staunch, longtime ally, Andorian scientists now offer renewed hope for a solution. However, many segments of Andorian society are protesting this controversial new approach, and more radical sects are beginning to make their displeasure known by any means available. In response, President Nanietta Bacco has sent the Enterprise crew and a team of diplomats and scientists to Andor to convene a summit, in the hope of demonstrating that the Federation's pledge to helping Andor is sincere.

But the Typhon Pact is watching, and their interests may very well lead the Andorian people down an even more treacherous path. . . .

They also have an updated version of the Zero Sum Game blurb.

Frontier Doctor #4 page

John Byrne has posted the first page from the fourth and final issue in the Frontier Doctor series. Looks like this:

Starfleet Academy Untitled #2, now with title!

The second of the young adult Starfleet Academy novels out this year, written by Rick Barba, has now been given a working title in Simon and Schuster’s digital catalogue: The Delta Anomaly

Although another anomaly seems to have formed, as the catalogue no longer lists Starfleet Academy Untitled #1!

UPDATE: What was formaly Starfleet Academy Untitled #1, by Rudy Josephs, seems to have become the second book in the series, as Simon and Schuster's main website now lists it for release in January 2011, and a working title of The Competitive Edge.

Thanks to Michael, the reader who pointed out the second title to me in the comment below!

Captain's Log: Jellico and Pike updates!

Keith R.A. DeCandido has posted some remarks on his Jellico Captain's Log issue; it will take place before Chain of Command, featuring Jellico's command of the USS Cairo, and "will please both people who think that Jellico was a pretty darned good captain and the ones who think he's a flaming asshole".

And it looks like Gordon Purcell is out of the picture for Captain's Log, as J.K. Woodward is doing both the Jellico and Pike issues! Between his blog and facebook he's posted several pages from both. Here's a couple from Jellico:And a cover and page from the Pike issue:You can see a lot more (of this incredible work!) on facebook and these blog posts: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, which also shed some light on the processes Woodward used to create them.

Thanks to Unreality SF's Jens Deffner for pointing me towards much of this!

Frontier Doctor: Error preview

TrekMovie have posted a five-page preview for next week's second issue of the Frontier Doctor series, titled "Error". Here's one page:See the rest, here.

Captain's Logs

TrekMovie have announced the final selection of captains for IDW's Captain's Log series. They are:

-Pike (September), by Stuart Moore, with art by J. K. Woodward.
-Jellico (October/November), by Keith R. A. DeCandido, art by Gordon Purcell.
-Garrett (November/December) by Robert Greenberger, art by George Freeman

A nice mix of creators and captains I think (especially another Pike story), although disappointing to see we're still not getting a Titan comic! And notable that J.K. Woodward seems to have switched, from his previously announced work with KRAD on the Jellico issue to doing the Pike issue.

UPDATE: KRAD has commented on this very blog-post, and elsewhere, that TrekMovie have been misinformed and his Jellico issue is still being illustrated by J.K. Woodward. With the obvious assumption being that Gordon Purcell gets the Pike issue. Robert Greenberger has also noted on his blog that his Enterprise-C crew is derived from the novel Well of Souls, which gives me continuity pleasure.

UPDATE 2: Woodward is doing both the Pike and Jellico issues, see more, here.
