Discovery season 2 trailer, stills, release date, mini-episodes and casting updates!

At the San Diego Comic Con the season series has also been confirmed for 2019 release. But we will still be getting some new Trek this year, in a series of character focused mini-episodes called Short Treks. There are four episodes in the works, each 10-15 minutes long, and they will be released monthly this autumn. StarTrek.com gave this summary:

Rainn Wilson will return to play Harry Mudd in a short he will also direct, and Aldis Hodge will star in another as Craft, a man who finds himself the only human on board a deserted ship. Additional episodes will include a deep dive into Saru’s (Doug Jones) backstory as the first Kelpien to join Starfleet, and Tilly’s (Mary Wiseman) journey aboard the U.S.S. Discovery and her friendship with an unlikely partner.

Phaser-glow rock mood light, and other stuff to Trek out the house

I've got a round-up of some of the latest Star Trek stuff out there to Trek out your home or office, and we'll start with one of the weirdest Star Trek products to have found its way to market...

Taking inspiration from The Enemy Within, The Wand Company (who have previously brought us things like the bluetooth communicator, and universal remote phaser) have come up with the phaser-controlled rock mood light. Simulating Sulu's desperate attempts to stay warm, this is a glowing rock, controlled, by a phaser...

The rock faithfully recreates the scene; with the phaser blast "heating" it up to full brightness, which then gradually dims once you stop firing (it is only light that you'll get though, no heat from this rock). There's also an alternate "atmosphere mode" where the rock can gradually shift through different colours and brightness. The rock is USB chargeable, and to complete your landing party experience comes complete with a Starfleet survival blanket!

Diamond Select Toys reveal USS Enteprise-C, plus Kelvin timeline and Borg figures!

Diamond Select Toys recently teased they have a whole load of new Star Trek stuff in development, and they've not disappointed in revealing several of those hitherto mysterious products at the San Diego Comic Con. They have announced several new action figures. But first...

A new ship! On target to join the Starships Legends range of electronic starships with lights and sounds, is the USS Enterprise-C, which plugs a gap in DST's near complete series of Enterprise's (as Eaglemoss have shown us, you can find a lot of Enterprises if you try, but DST will now be covering all the main ones). DST are hoping to have this shipping in 2019. Images below come via Figures.com and Toy News International, who both have more to see in their respective galleries:

Anovos reveal Discovery USS Enterprise model

Anovos has revealed the third ship in their new range of "studio scale" Discovery starship models, the USS Enterprise - This follows the previously announced USS Shenzhou and USS Discovery. All are created referencing original studio assets of course.

The new look Enterprise is made from polymer resin with steel reinforcement and measures 35 inches long, 16 wide, and 8 tall. 180 LEDs are used to light the model, which includes impulse engines, warp nacelles, formation and anti-collision lights, and windows, including of course the new bridge and mid-saucer windows.

Like the other model in the series, there are some interactive features, with movable and removable sections on this ship being the deflector dish, which can be pulled forward to reveal the internal deflector systems, and the nacelle caps, which can taken off the show the interior workings.

Terra Incognita #1 preview

Out this week is the first issue in IDW's latest TNG mirror universe comic series, Terra Incognita, which follows the deviations of mirror-Barclay following the events of the recent series Through the Mirror.

Scott and David Tipton continue in writing what is becoming a near ongoing mirror universe series, with Tony Shasteen picking up the art duties this time.

The book is available in four different covers, with Shasteen also delivering the A cover, while the B cover is a photo-montage. There are also two retail incentive covers; a colourful and moodily lit Ten Forward scene by Elizabeth Beals or a menacing giant Barclay looming over the TNG crew by J.K. Woodward.

New Star Trek coins celebrate DS9, TOS ships, and TMP poster

Three of the current Star Trek coin licensees have got new releases out, celebrating The Original Series' ships and The Motion Picture poster. Continue below to check them out.

But first, the Royal Canadian Mint are about to release a crazy cool coin version of Deep Space 9, flattening the station down to a disc, with the spaces between the rings and bridges having printed spacey sections, featuring the USS Defiant and the wormhole - There are printed sections on both sides of the coin, which is apparently a first for the Canadian Mint. What makes it really distinctive though is that the coin is minted in the shape of DS9's outer ring, with all the little docking port notches all around the edge.

Discovery season 2 images introduce a Saurian

Entertainment Weekly have revealed a couple of new images from season two of Discovery; the first stills from the season in fact. Among them we get our first look at the first Saurian to come to on-screen Star Trek since the species was introduced in The Motion Picture.

New Eaglemoss Discovery, XL, and bonus issues revealed

Ahead of the San Diego Comic Con Eaglemoss have released preview images of several new ships from their various Starships Collections, which are going to be on display at their booth at the convention. These include our first looks at several Discovery, XL, and bonus issue models. Continue below to check them out:

We've seen issues five and six from the Discovery collection from afar, but Eaglemoss have now released the first proper look at the USS Europa and the Vulcan cruiser. If Eaglemoss stay on track with their monthly releases, we should see these two come August/September.

Mego relaunches with new action figures on the way

Mego are back! The long hibernating toy brand is relaunching, as "Marty Abrams presents Mego" (named for the company's co-founder), with a range of action figures available exclusively at Target, and that includes a return of one of the earliest Star Trek toy series, the iconic Mego action figure.

Mego's new range will feature a wide variety of characters from classic TV series and movies, including DC Comics, The Brady Bunch, Cheers, I Dream of Jeannie, and Married with Children. Eight and twelve inch figures are being made, including resurrecting the eight inch Star Trek line. The range will start to be released from the end of this month, following a more extensive preview at the San Diego Comic Con. Each of the new figures will have a limited run of 10,000. For now the initial announcement reveals one Star Trek release: Sulu:

More Eaglemoss Star Trek busts revealed

While ramping up attention for product reveals at the San Diego Comic Con, Eaglemoss have released the first images of several issues in their forthcoming The Official Star Trek Busts Collection. Four characters have so far been revealed, with TNG's Worf busting out of his podium with bat'leth in hands, joined by a more inquisitive Data, and a relatively friendly looking Spock. These will also follow the previously announced Captain Kirk, which will kick off the series. Continue below to check them all out.
