Sacraments of Fire cover

Simon and Schuster have released the cover for David R. George III's next DS9 novel, Sacraments of Fire. The story is set to pick up some of the dangling threads from The Fall, and along with the follow-up, Ascendance, it appears will also be filling in some of the missing period  from the DS9 relaunch when the series jumped forward to align with the post-Destiny timeframe - While the blurbs don't hint at filling in that missing time in this first book, the cover certainly does, with Iliana Ghemor (last seen at the end of The Soul Key when she became the Ascendants' messiah) looming over the new Deep Space 9:

Sacraments of Fire is due out in August, and Ascendance is coming in January. Continue after the jump for a reminder of the blurbs:

Here's Sacraments of Fire's blurb, as presented on the wormhole back-cover of the book:

And the text for Ascendance:
On the original Deep Space Nine, Captain Kira Nerys watches as the nearby wormhole opens and discharges a single, bladelike vessel. Attempts to contact its crew fail, and the ship is soon followed by another vessel of similar design. When an armada subsequently begins to emerge from the wormhole, it seems clear that DS9 is under attack. Kira orders her first officer, Commander Elias Vaughn, to board the U.S.S. Defiant and defend the station, and alerts Starfleet to send additional forces as her crew prepares DS9’s shields and weaponry for the onslaught to come.

Meanwhile, on the lead ship, Iliana Ghemor considers launching an attack on DS9 and finally ending the life of Kira, the fountainhead of all the ills in her miserable life. Her vengeance demands more than mere death, though—it requires pain. Ghemor refocuses, choosing to follow her plan to mete out her revenge on the captain by first decimating the population of Bajor…

In other books news, Cross Cult have announced they will be continuing to produce German translations of the Enterprise novels, as they have now secured the rights to do Christopher L. Bennett's Rise of the Federation books. No scheduling for these yet.

I thought Elias Vaughn wasted away and died in bed in some other book...

He did. It was lame.
But you're not reading things properly. That excerpt was from the old book, not the new book.

I think 'Ascendance' is supposed to go back to just after 'The Soul Key' in 2377 and fill in some of the gap left between that and the Typhon Pact books. So it would involve Capt Kira and Cmdr Vaughn.
