Huge Playmobil USS Enterprise playset revealed

Classic toy brand Playmobil are set to explore strange new worlds with their first ever Star Trek toy coming later this year. And they're going big, with an enormous model of the TOS USS Enterprise(ad), complete with all the main TOS characters, two interior rooms, lights, and sounds, and more! The model is 42 inches long (about a meter). Continue below to check it out:

Here is Playmobil's description of the model:
Where's Captain Kirk? Why he's on the bridge of the Playmobil 70548 Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 Playset! Quite possibly the biggest and most deluxe Playmobil playset created up to this point, this 42-inch long, 18-inch wide starship includes electronic lights and sounds that can be controlled by your smart device! It includes a display cradle, plus wire for ceiling suspension if that's your preferred means of display. The set includes a marvelous ship modeled after its appearance on the original series, plus figures and accessories. You'll get Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Ensign Chekov, Lt. Uhura, Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock, Lt. Sulu, and of course Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scott" Scotty. That's a lot of fun in one big box!

The saucer section of the Enterprise opens up to show a full 1966-style bridge play environment. What's more, the body of the ship opens up on the side to show you an engineering room. Other accessories and electronic surprises are coming as well, so don't miss the iconic ship!
Entertainment Earth(ad) currently have the playset up for pre-order, expecting a September release, while Toy New International released these first images.

The next image shows some of the bits and bobs included in the set. The full cast of characters come well equipped with phasers, tricorders, and communicators, plus a dilithium crystal for engineering, chairs for the bridge, and several tribbles! There's also an oversized dedication plaque to display alongside. The hollowed out delta bottom right is part of the kit which allows you to suspend the model, which you can see in action in the other images below.

Here's a look inside the fantastic bridge area, which occupies much of the saucer:

And the slightly more minimalised engineering section:

The ship features various lights and sounds, which can be app controlled from a smart phone. There's a USB port hidden on the other side of the engineering section to power it.

These images show some additional views:

And here's the box art:

A very impressive toy!! I'm most curious to see if this is a one off, or merely the initial big bang to launch a more extensive range - Perhaps including some more accessible smaller toys for younger or more casual fans, as this giant thing is a surely-adult-collector-targeted $500!

With a kids Star Trek series on the way, Prodigy, maybe we can look forward to many more Star Trek toys about to arrive. Could this release be the first hint of Playmobil taking on the Trek license ready for tie-ins to that series I wonder?

I had actually pitched this to playmobil years ago. If they follow my pitch, they'll have a series of playsets to accompany this massive set. For instance, Kirk fighting the gorn and other famous moments from TOS.

How much is it?

If their licenses for Ghostbusters and BTTF are any indication, I expect at least a shuttlecraft and figure sets with TOS Klingons and Romulans, maybe even a Gorn or Mugato! :D

If only Lego ever got this license...
