Discovery: The Way to the Stars excerpts

Hitting the bookshelves this week is the first Star Trek novel of 2019, and the fourth Discovery novel, Una McCormack's The Way to the Stars. Like the previous Discovery books this is a prequel to the main period of the TV series, in this instance following a teenage Sylvia Tilly.

The book is available in trade paperback and ebook, or audiobook available on CD or download; and you can sample excerpts from both the print and audio editions below. But first, here's a reminder of the blurb, as seen on the back of the book:

Una McCormack expanded on what the book covers a little, in a recent interview on StarTrek.com:
Tilly really is the breakout character of the show, isn’t she? When she’s on screen, you want to be looking at her, hearing what she has to say. She’s funny, and smart, but she doesn’t always say the right thing, and she’s often gauche, and that makes her great value. Naturally I wanted to explore her childhood – what her background was like to create this super-smart young woman who has all these gifts and is learning to make the best of them; who her parents are, and what they are like; what her home environment was like. This is all covered in the book.
And if that hasn't whetted your appetite enough, here's an excerpt (care of Amazon's Kindle preview):

Or if you prefer to listen to your books, here are two excerpts from the audio edition, read by January LaVoy:

Finally, here's the cover for the audio edition, the final form of which was only recently revealed. A tweaked version of the regular cover of course:

The Way to the Stars is available now, including from these fine places:
