Film4's Star Trek weekend

In the UK the film channel FILM4 are going to have Star Trek weekend, starting on the 16th of October. To advertise it they have created a rather amusing trailer, which you can see, here. Check it out.

Cryptic have listed details of their second series of weekly missions for Star Trek Online, The Devidians:

Thousands of Starfleet officers and KDF warriors have died in the battles in the Neutral Zone. The destruction has drawn the attention of the Devidians, unseen predators who use chaos as a cover for their kills. This time, however, their plans involve more than simple survival. You must stop them before they can change the face of the quadrant forever!

#1: Skirmish

An unexpected enemy returns when your ship is called to battle in the Neutral Zone.

#2: Spin the Wheel

A deep cover intelligence operative on Drozana Station needs your help. Dabo!

#3: What Lies Beneath

Something more than Devidians haunts the lower levels of a 200-year-old space station. Will you survive long enough to learn the truth?

#4: Everything Old Is New Again

Follow the mystery back to a place where everything is familiar, but nothing is the same. Get the help of a legend and find out what the Devidians have planned.

#5: Night of the Comet

Even help from old friends may not be enough to stop the Devidian threat in time.

Infinte Space

GameForge has announced the first title for one of its browser-based Star Trek games. Coming next summer will be Star Trek: Infinite Space, a DS9 era game developed by Keen Games.

Latest from Cross Cult (New Frontier and comics)

Cross Cult have released their latest New Frontier character image, it's Shelby:

On the comics front, my usual German informant, Jens Deffner of Unreality SF, has pointed me towards a Cross Cult forum post announcing their future plans for comics. After impressive sales of Countdown they have found further comic sales disappointing and will no longer be releasing series omnibuses. As an alternative they are considering doing much larger omnibuses instead, with four miniseries in a single limited edition hardcover book. They're seeing customer feedback on the idea on the forum post. The first book provisional could include Klingons: Blood Will Tell (TOS), Leonard McCoy: Frontier Doctor (TOS), Fool's Gold (DS9), and Turnaround (NF).

Aventine feature in next Star Trek Magazine

USS Aventine designer Mark Rademkaer has announced on his blog that the next issue of the Star Trek Magazine will have an extensive feature of the USS Aventine, written by Marco Palmieri and with lots of new images by Rademaker, including orthographic views and a mini-poster!!

Titan feature next issue? Vanguard after that? *fingers crossed*

Details on Starfleet Academy books

StarTrek.com has posted an interview with the Starfleet Academy book series editor, Kara Sargent. The article includes descriptions of the first two books in the series. The Delta Anomaly is: "a mystery about a serial killer. Early on in the book, the killer targets one of the Starfleet cadets—a friend of Kirk and Uhura, in fact—and the reader is immediately drawn in to this very fast-paced, very chilling mystery. All the while, there are fantastic side stories going on. One involves Uhura and a special assignment she gets from her favorite instructor, Commander Spock. I’ll just say there’s some serious chemistry between those two and leave it at that! Another side story involves a big Starfleet assignment Kirk is involved in that pits him against his nemesis at the Academy. There’s lots of adventure in that one. And, my favorite side story involves Kirk and a beautiful young co-ed he meets at a coffee shop. Her name is Hannah, and Kirk has his work cut out for him because Hannah actually doesn’t swoon at his feet the first time she meets him."

The second book, The Edge: "focuses on the stress of life at the Academy. The story opens with a competition and Kirk realizes that some cadets seem to have an edge that he doesn’t have. One of the cadets is the girl he’s interested in. Some mysterious events and even a death occur, leading Kirk to investigate what’s going on, and he uncovers a really dark world of illegal activity."

The article also provided a hint at the extent of this series, they hope to publish at least one book a season (ie, every three months or so). See the full article, here.

Cross Cult's take on New Frontier

Cross Cult have released, via their Star Trek books facebook page, a set of character illustrations for the New Frontier series. According to my regular German informant, Unreality SF's Jens Deffner, these will be used as spine or back-cover images, with new front covers still to come!
