Discovery round-up: Point of Light trailer, first Ready Room episode, and more

Lots of Discovery bits to enjoy today, including the first episode of the new companion show The Ready Room, and other behind the scenes bits. But first, check out the trailer for this week's episode, Point of Light:

Amanda back, Georgiou back, Klingons back! This is going to be a busy episode!

While we wait for more new Trek we've got new Trek behind the scenes, in the form of the new companion show The Ready Room, which is released as Facebook live stream (and thankfully is available both not live and not geolocked!). This is a significantly stripped back from last year's After Trek, but while losing the bespoke set, graphics, and trivia, still delivers I think the most important bit of that lost show, the interviews with creators and cast.

This week host Naomi Kyle was joined by executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin, to talk about the first two episodes, and hints at things to come. They didn't spill too many beans, but did note the new Tilly May-mystery will be a focus of the first half of the season and get some resolution pretty soon. They also talked briefly about the two forthcoming Short Treks animated episodes, noting they are different animation styles to the Lower Decks animated series, and will be tied into this season of Discovery and also answer questions raised from the first season.

You can watch the whole thing on the CBS All Access Facebook page, or right here:

Also fresh from CBS is their latest behind the scenes featurette, for the second time focusing on Jonathan Frakes as director, this time with more emphasis on the cast adoring him (in a genuinely sweet and affection way rather than anything sycophantic!). Alas this video is geolocked:

Frakes was also interviewed by Deadline to discuss his role on the show, and commented a little bit on what he knows about the Picard show while he was at it:
The feeling is we would love to be part of it. But the feeling is also that it’s Patrick’s show. [Laughs.] Having said that, I can’t imagine a world where there’s no reference to what happened to the rest of the Next Generation cast. Patrick isn’t playing Capt. Jean-Luc Picard this time, he’s done with [that phase of his career in] Starfleet in this show. That’s about the only thing I do know about the show. Patrick and I had a steak dinner a couple of weeks ago and this man, who I’ve known for 31 years now, is so excited about this show he’s like a little kid. It’s fabulous! He’s thrilled and excited to be invited into the writer’s room and he’s a producer on the show and he’s part of the development of the story arc. It’s terrific. I mean he is a guy who is fully engaged.
Finally, here are a couple more photos from the cast. Bahia Watson with a hello selfie as the mysterious (and delightful) May Ahearn:

And Anson Mount yet again on his captain's chair, this time with his dog too!

One more thing... In the extremely unlikely event anyone reading a site focusing on the minutia of Trek hasn't already seen it on whichever service airs Discovery in their part of the world: CBS have now uploaded the entire first episode of season 2 onto YouTube for free viewing (in the US). If nothing else, maybe you can share with a friend and indoctrinate them into Trekdom!
