All the latest super-deformed Star Trek toys

The trend in super-deformed cartoon/caricature style toys shows now signs of slowing down, and in just the past few months the world of Star Trek toys has seen many new examples. Continue below to check out all the latest releases.

Just out from Funko, is the first Star Trek figure in their new Dorbz line. Like the long established Pop! vinyl range, Dorbz have a particular style that is used across the various licensees Funko have. This first beaming Spock figure is exclusive to GameStop, although I'm sure it's just a matter of time until a regular Spock comes along as part of a larger Star Trek Dorbz collection.

Latest Star Trek board games: Frontiers, Risk, Trivial Pursuit, and jigsaws

It's a good year for Star Trek loving board-gamers, with some innovative new games and Trek-ified classics all looking to occupy the table. Continue below to check out the latest.

New from Wizkids is Frontiers, a game designed by Andrew Parks, based on Vlaada Chvátil's Mage Knight. Here is how Wizkids describe the elaborate game:
A contested region of space accessible through a known wormhole has drawn the attention of powerful forces throughout the galaxy. Both the Federation and the Klingon Empire, who share a delicate alliance at this time, have recently built outposts in the region. But now news of grave troubles brewing in the region has prompted both the Klingons and the Federation to investigate immediately.

Command your ship, recruit new crew members, earn experience points, and use your skills to confront the challenges of the Star Trek Universe. Explore and face a variety of challenges on a randomly built Space Map using the Venture Tile System first introduced in the award-winning game, Mage Knight.

Star Trek: Frontiers is designed for 1 to 4 players with multiple competitive, cooperative and solo scenarios. Work together to defeat hostile ships or compete to explore and uncover hidden mysteries. Players will need to overcome obstacles to expand their knowledge and use their leadership as they adventure in order to be victorious in their exploration!

Klingon Monopoly behind-the-scenes videos, including new house and hotel pieces

USAopoly's Klingon Monopoly website has been updated with four new videos. Two show the sculpting of tokens in the game; the Bird-of-Prey and Bat'leth. The other two show the new house and hotel custom pieces; based on Boreth Monestary and the High Council building I believe. One of the few criticisms I had for their earlier Continuum Edition, was use of generic houses and hotels in that version, so I'm glad to see they've gone all out this time.

Toys, collectables and apparel update

CBS have recently announced several new licenses and products, these include:

A second set of Star Trek Mr Potato Heads, coming in November from PPW Toys. As announced on StarTrek.com this time we'll get potato versions of Spock and Uhura:

A new Star Trek Monopoly from USAopoly, this time themed on the Klingons; this edition will be bilingual (presumably Federation standard as well as Klingon), with various Klingon worlds to conquer, outposts to establish and honor to chanced (as chance becomes "honor" and community chest will be "combat"). StarTrek.com promises several other elements will be decided by fan choice, starting with a facebook vote on which box design to use:

USAopoly did a great job on their last Star Trek edition, which I reviewed some time ago.

StarTrek.com also announced details of a phaser prop replica coming from QMx. Based directly on the digital files used to create the prop for the new movie this edition features metal plating.

Other new lines announced by CBS include: A range of busts from all eras of Trek coming from Titan Merchandise. Deck building games based on TOS and TNG from Bandai. A variety of Star Trek inspired T-shirts and tops from Mighty Fine. And TNG 25th anniversary Pez Candy sets, due next year.

Star Trek Monopoly review, and competition!

Those nice people at USAopoly decided to send me a copy of their new "Star Trek: Continuum Edition" Monopoly game, which is out this month in the US and Canada, to have a play with. As a huge Star Trek and Monopoly fan I can’t say I was anything less than very excited by this. To the best of my knowledge there have been two Star Trek Monopolys before; a TOS one, and a TNG one, so this is the first time we get the entire Trekverse in one Monopoly game, good stuff.

The thing that I first wanted have a look at when I opened the box was the counters, so I shall start there. We get six; A Vulcan lute, a TOS shuttlecraft, a TOS movie-era hand phaser, a TOS communicator, Kirk's command chair, and a blood wine goblet. My very first thought was to question why they didn't go for more starships, however on thinking my thought through I have concluded the selection is actually quite a nice homage to the classic Monopoly tokens, in that we get a nice random assortment. My favourite is the lute, which I would have lost if they had done ships, and these are a huge improvement over the little figurine tokens that came with the previous Trek Monopolys. My only real complaint about the token selection is that it's very TOS-centric.

The board is good fun, with a few exceptions (such as Starfleet Command and the Chin'toka system) each property is a planet, grouped into clusters; for instance the red properties are all Klingon worlds, the light blues are the Federation founders. Train-stations are replaced with starships and utilities become Delta Vega's lithium cracking station and the Argus Array. The only possible improvement that occurred to us while playing was that the jail could have been renamed the brig, and free parking maybe starbase. Though it did also occur to us that those four corners might never change on any version of Monopoly so we forgave that one. Also unchanged are the houses and hotels, text all over the game rules and cards refers to them as starships and fleets but the design of the actual pieces is your standard house and hotel.

The cards for each of the properties are your standard Monopoly layout on one side, with a little factoid on the other about the subject. While playing we developed a little sub-game based in Star Trek geekery by trying to guess what the factoid might be...

The box of the game also provided some little factoids, on subjects such as the timeship Relativity and Species 8472. When I opened the box I thought this was a somewhat obscure collection of facts, but as we progressed through game-play and found references to these we decided it was actually a good backup on information more casual fans might not know so well, clever.

Community Chest and Chance cards have become "Sensor Readings" and "Subspace Transmissions" and have appropriately Trek-based results. I found myself particularly irked to have to pay Dr Phlox to cure me from the Klingon augment virus!

Money in the game takes the form of gold pressed latinum bars (translated into the usual paper slips).

The game-play is your classic Monopoly set-up, ie, a very enjoyable way to gobble up a couple of hours. The instructions also have suggestions for optional Star Trek rules, which we played with and had even more fun. Rolling a double six for instance gets you a Borg attack! In which (using a dice role-off) you can assimilate another players property - I blame this for my losing of the game!

In conclusion, if you enjoy Monopoly and are a Star Trek fan you can't go wrong here. The design of the game is quite well balanced between all the series and films, the elements customised for this edition of the game are done so effectively and are quite fun and the extra Star Trek rules easily double the enjoyability of a very enjoyable game.

COMPETITION - Now closed

And if you'd like a copy of the game (you could buy it, or) USAopoly were kind enough to send me another copy of the game to give away to one of you lucky peoples. So just send an email with the subject "Monopoly competition" to 8of5opoly@googlemail.com for your chance to win, and start buying up the entire Star Trek Continuum! (competition closing 11:59pm (GMT) Saturday the 18th of April)

Star Trek Monopoly! (and some other stuffs)

Monopoly is by far my favourite board game, so I'm very excited by TrekMovie's latest merchandising report that shows off a new Star Trek monopoly, the "continuum edition" (which I hopes means the entire Trekverse)

That's form USAoply. Also coming from the company called Fundex are Star Trek versions of UNO, Scrabble, Magic 8 Ball, Phase 10 and All About Trivia.

Additionally TrekMovie report on all manner of other new Trek stuff on the way; including interior decoration and fittings, posters, clothing, jewellery and even perfume! (I hope this isn’t turning into Star Wars Episode I…)
