Where are the prime kreons hiding?

Remember, just less than a year ago, when Hasbro announced the details of the Star Trek Kre-o range, they mentioned plans for individual kreon figurines as well? There was to be a series of six nuTrek characters, released alongside the main wave of Into Darkness sets, and then later in the year, twelve more prime-timeline characters.

A little while later a German online retailer released the images to the right, of six of those prime figures. But then nothing seemed to happen, I assumed the line had been cancelled - Until one of my readers mentioned they had in fact all been released last year, in the Philippines at least. A couple of Filipino bloggers have reported on wave 2, thanks to TrekToy poster 1701 I came across The Geeky Guide to Nearly Everything's report, and Youtuber chefatron also posted a review. Between the two we can get a fairly good look at these figures, even if the rest of the world might be doomed to never actually see them in the flesh.

Here's the full line-up, with a few extra Borg drones thrown in for good measure:

The characters and packet codes are as follows:
  • 31491-11 - Captain Kirk
  • 31491-12 - Spock
  • 31491-13 - Worf
  • 31491-14 - General Chang
  • 31491-15 - Borg Drone
  • 31491-16 - Locutus
  • 31491-17 - Gul Dukat
  • 31491-18 - Khan Noonien-Singh
  • 31491-19 - Salt Vampire
  • 31491-20 - Mugato
  • 31491-21 - Quark
  • 31491-22 - Andorian Soldier
Here's a closer look at the Borg figures:

Hasbro have released two addition Star Trek Kre-O sets since the first wave, so maybe the line is still ongoing, hopefully we'll get more information at the next Toy Fair. Until then, for the best look at each of these characters you're likely to get outside the Philippines, have a watch of the (quite lengthy) Youtube review (after the jump):

Trek Toys, loads of them!

All of a sudden there seems to be an abundance of new Star Trek toy information! So here's a look at the many varied Star Trek play things on the way:

First up, just when maybe you were thinking the nuTrek toy range might be winding down after Into Darkness, Hasbro have released another set in the Kre-O collection. This Toys'r'us exclusive appears to be a reissue of the USS Enterprise set, but come with battle damage stickers, and a wholly new Klingon battle cruiser model! Also included is the first Chekov Kreon figure, and new uniform variants of other characters.

Square Enix will be giving us another rather stylised take on the Trekverse, with their new Star Trek action figures, from their Play Arts KAI range. They displayed the painted versions of these for the first time at the New York Comic Con. The photo below comes from Cool Toys Review's coverage of the display. You can get a closer look at them in other photos in Cool Toys' gallery, and if you really want to scrutinise them, Toy News International, Toy Ark, and Tomopop have all posted galleries too!

Continue after the jump for news of many more figures and ship models on the way:

First look at Kre-O USS Vengeance

Target have added a listing to their website for a new set in the Star Trek Kre-O range, the USS Vengeance. It is currently listed as "unavailable" and "not sold in stores", with no indication of a release date - Hopefully this just means those details haven't been put up yet, rather than this being a lost cancelled set.

It seems like a pretty good representation of the ship, although of course it takes more liberties with the design than the Hot Wheels version, the only other model of the ship at the moment. It appears to be using the same nacelle strut element as the Enterprise set, which make the nacelles a bit close to each other, and it appears to have a cockpit element in the bridge area of the ship to house the crew. The kreon figures included are stow-away Scotty, two generic "specialists", and the "specialist captain" aka Admiral Marcus. Check her out:

We knew Hasbro had plans for additional releases after Into Darkness, I posted images of the first of two planned additional series of the Kreon figures a couple of months ago for instance. But it's great to see that appearing to actually be happening. Playmates also planned to add more toys to their range from the previous film, but cancelled them after their line of toys flopped. Hopefully the Vengeance is the first reveal in a second wave of sets.

Star Trek Kre-O animation

Back when Star Trek Kre-O sets were first announced, we were promised an animated film alongside the release of the toys, and today Hasbro has posted that on Youtube. The film uses a black hole as a cute way to transition the real nuTrek universe into an alternate brick-based reality; using a Kreon-scale Kre-O Enterprise rather than the actual USS Enterprise toy design. Check it out:

This film ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, I wonder if there'll be a part two...

In other Kre-O news, the Awesome Toy Blog has posted some handy information to cheat in finding the Star Trek Kreon figures you want in the blind bags. Each bag has a code, which corresponds to the figure inside; so you can pick out exactly the ones you want without having to squish them for hours... Handy if you want a complete set, or to build an army of Klingons (or Keensers...). The codes are:
  • 30711 05 Captain Nero
  • 30711 06 Keenser
  • 30711 07 Lieutenant Sprog
  • 30711 08 Klingon
  • 30711 09 Gorn
  • 30711 10 Grasia
For a look at the entire Star Trek Kre-O range, check out my previous article, with images and details of each set.

First look at prime reality Kreon figures

A German website, Toy Palace, has posted the first images of the second wave of Star Trek Kre-O Kreon figures, which are all based on prime reality characters. The Wave includes: Kirk and Spock, both armed with phasers and lirpas; Worf and General Chang, with a bat'leth and disruptor respectively, Quark, who has shorter legs than the rest and comes with a tray of drinks; and my favourite by far, Shran! Who has an Andorian weapon. Check them out:

Meanwhile Entertainment Earth has posted an image of the blind bag design for the series one Kreons, which are all nuTrek aliens. They come in these:

The first wave of Kreons are due out with the rest of the Into Darkness Kre-O sets next month (images here), the second and third waves are due to follow later in the year.

Latest nuTrek aliens

Toyark have posted images of the Star Trek Kre-O range, including a new image of the series one Kreon figure collection. There is a little glitch, in that the whip thing the Gorn is holding is in fact it's tail... For a close look at the entire range, check out my previous report.

The Gorn are also highlighted in StarTrek.com's latest report on Star Trek: The Video Game; their last guide to the Gorn castes to be featured in the game. This time we meet the warrior:

The Warrior is the next evolution step above the Gorn Initiate, but still closely resembles a wild animal/beast when in combat. Equipped with basic armor, the genetically enhanced Warrior is intelligent enough to operate weaponry such as the Pillager and the Arc Driver.
And finally, TrekMovie have updated their latest gallery of Star Trek Into Darkness images with this behind-the-scenes shot of Keenser (Deep Roy) and JJ Abrams:

New images of the Star Trek Kre-O sets and packaging

Amazon has added listings for the new Star Trek Kre-O construction sets, with new high resolution images giving us a much better look at the sets, and their packaging, as well as blurbs for the sets, highlighting some of their features (complete with rather odd selection of words in quotation marks). I've chopped it out of each blurb below, but each starts with "Build your own Star Trek adventures with this awesome Kre-O construction set!" and ends with the rather cute "Boldly build what you haven't built before with [insert subject of set here]"

Any new clues about Star Trek Into Darkness here? Maybe, the space dive set mentions a "Federation Special Ops" kreon figure (presumbly the figure that appears to be John Harrison). The transporter set also describes what the set design implies; Scotty having to beam a Klingon away (from where? to where?). The Klingon Bird-of-Prey set might also be giving us a clue, suggesting Kirk and Uhura need to avoid being taken hostage by the Klingons. And of course the USS Enterprise's inclusion of the "specialist" kreon figures, in the alternate Starfleet uniform, remains a bit of an enigma.

There're lots of images, so more sets and information after the jump!

USS Enterprise

Use the 432 pieces to build a U.S.S. Enterprise ship that your 5 Kreon figures can "fly." Lift off the top saucer to put your Captain Kirk, Spock and Dr. McCoy Kreon figures on the bridge! This incredible set features Lighttech technology, so the deflector dish and engines glow for extra-amazing Star Trek action! Open the engine cowlings and fire the ship's missile as it blasts through "outer space."

Klingon Bird of Prey

Use the 236 pieces to build a Klingon Bird-of-Prey ship that your 2 Klingon Kreon figures can "fly." Will your Captain Kirk and Uhura Kreon figures be taken hostage by their Klingon enemies? This incredible set features Lighttech technology, so the ship’s cockpit not only opens but glows for extra-amazing Star Trek action! Position the wings and fire the ship’s missiles as it blasts through "outer space."

TOS Kre-O set with Star Trek video game pre-orders!

Game Stop have announced an additional pre-order bonus for Star Trek: The Video Game (beside the in-game weapons and uniforms pack), in the form of the first prime-timeline Star Trek Kre-O construction set. As long as you are a member of their PowerUp Rewards loyalty scheme (which is free to join), you'll receive a mini TOS USS Enterprise Kre-O set and a "collectible poster" with pre-orders of the game. Here's the little ship that can be yours:

This "bonus" set appears to be about the same size as the range of micro build starships in the main Kre-O range. Check out my article looking at the official images of the whole range, as well as photos from the Toy Fair. And to keep up to date with everything about Star Trek: The Video Game and other Star Trek Into Darkness tie-ins, keep an eye on my Star Trek Into Darkness guide page.

Star Trek Kre-O at the Toy Fair

We've had a good look at the new Star Trek Kre-O sets coming soon from Hasbro, in official images released to the web. But they are also on display at Hasbro's booth at the Toy Fair this weekend, which gives us a closer look at some of the sets, and an idea of the packaging designs. So here are the Star Trek Kre-O sets on the booth:

USS Enterprise playset

Here is the box, plus views of the complete ship, the kreon figures (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and two "specialists", the latter two are apparently bad guys), interior views of the bridge, and inside the nacelles:

Klingon Bird of Prey
The new Klingon design coming in Star Trek Into Darkness. it will be interesting to see if Hasbro have played with the scale (as they have with the Enterprise), or whether this ship is actually more of a fighter sized ship, rather than the traditionally larger Bird of Prey designs. Comes with Kirk, Uhura, and two Klingons.

Keep reading after the jump for the rest of the range:

Details of the Star Trek Kre-O line-up (updated)

The first details of Hasbro's Star Trek Kre-O assortment are emerging from the New York Toy Fair. The first wave of sets has been described at a Hasbro presentation. I will update this article if more details/images emerge, for now we have an idea of the set assortment coming: UPDATE: StarTrek.com have released lots of images and information.

UPDATE 2: Have now added higher resolution versions of the official images posted by Toy News International, plus an extra image of the transporter set. Will be posting a separate article with closer looks at the sets on display at the Hasbro booth shortly.

UPDATE 3: Now added even high res images from Lethal Farse. You can also see photos of the sets and packaging from Toy Fair displays, in a separate article. While another article looks at the Fighter Pods range.

The first sets will be available from the 29th of April, and include the sets we saw in another presentation yesterday, plus others:

Enterprise playset
As previously seen in official photos, a recently released description, and at last year's Comic Con. This set will come with five kreon figures. We've already seen Kirk and Spock, who will be joined by McCoy and two other characters - Images of the set show these inconsistently in black and blue uniforms, and they are described by StarTrek.com as villains. 432 pieces.

Klingon Bird of Prey
This is a new design from Star Trek Into Darkness (as seen in the trailer), comes with two Klingons, Uhura, and Spock. Like the Enterprise this set has lights, in this case in the cockpit. Also fires projectiles from the wings. 236 pieces.

Spock's Volcano Mission
From the scenes seen in the trailers and IMAX preview (and no doubt a little after the end of the preview), this set features an exploding volcano (or redish blob), and shuttlecraft, and comes with Volcano-suit Spock, and Sulu. This set also has a light, which can illuminate the cockpit, or rather neatly rotates down to light Spock as you lower him into the volcano. 141 pieces.

Transporter Trouble
Comes with Scotty, and a Klingon, in a transporter with a rotating transporter effect, and another lighting effect! I wonder if this is indicative of a so-far unknown scene in Into Darkness... 65 pieces.

Space Dive
Features the first ever light-up kreon (to illuminate the faceplate I imagine), includes Kirk and a villian (surely John Harrison with his massive gun?), and a small airlock.

Mirco-build starships
In addition to kreon figure scale sets there will also be a range of "micro ships", with the USS Enterprise, USS Kelvin, Jellyfish, and Klingon D7 featuring in the first sets. Eeah set comes with a light-up stand. 34-42 pieces each.

Kreon figures
Offered as blind bags (like the Lego collectable minifigures), will be an initial wave of six figures: Nero, Gorn (from the new Star Trek video game?), Keenser, and a Klingon are familiar. Also listed are a Lieutenant Sprog, who is wholly new to me, and Grasia, which IMDB lists as an alien appearing in Into Darkness, played by the same actress who played the Kelvin's Alnschloss K'Bentayr in the 2009 film - The third character pictured here seems to have the same wide necked uniform of that character, so maybe that species is returning in Into Darkness.

A second wave of kreon figures will feature prime timeline aliens: Andorian, Borg drone, Spock, Worf, Ferengi, Salt Vampire, and Locutus. Another wave is to follow, with StarTrek.com suggesting that will include General Chang, and Captain Kirk.

Fighter Pods
Coming exclusively to Toys'r'us will be a range of "Fighter Pod" sets, it appears these are another concept, rather than part of the Kre-O line; Hasbro already have an extensive range of Star Wars Fighter Pods, which feature stylised versions of characters, along side vehicles in a battle-based game, which appears to be based loosely on bowling. The Star Trek version will include a large USS Enterprise fighter pod set, with four figures; Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Uhura.

The range also includes smaller sets:
  • Fghter attack pods with launcher, with four designs featuring very un-Star Trek names: Blade Blaster, Ninja Star, Star Surger, and Phantom Striker. Each comes with figures: Kirk, Spock, Soctty, and a Klingon.
  • Fighter pod starter packs feature four figures and two pods each.
  • While fighter pod "blind bags" each come with two figures and single pod.

First look at Star Trek Kre-o sets

With the release of Star Trek Into Darkness, Hasbro will be taking on a Star Trek toy licensee, including Lego-style construction sets in their Kre-o range. We got a good look at their USS Enterprise vehichle/playset last summer, and now an investor presentation has revealed more figures and sets, from their collection of eleven construction sets!

Joining the "kreon" figures of Kirk and Spock, we can see a Klingon (with a newly designed bat'leth), and Uhura (in what looks like Starfleet issue hot pants). There will apparently be eighteen different figures across the range. The new sets on show beside the Enterprise appear to be a Klingon ship of some sort (possibly the same one seen in the trailer), and a transporter room:

Hasbro also recently put out a press release, ahead of the New York Toy Fair this weekend, detailing the Enterprise set:
Explore the final frontier with the crew of the U.S.S. ENTERPRISE, the iconic ship from the upcoming STAR TREK movie from Paramount Pictures. Based on the ship featured in the film, the KRE-O U.S.S. ENTERPRISE is 18” long, includes a display stand, and is the first KRE-O set that actually lights up! Explore the lighted Bridge interior play area, glowing warp engines, and launch a projectile from a lighted photon torpedo. Kids and fans alike will be excited to find KREON figures representing KIRK, SPOCK, BONES and more in the ENTERPRISE set which includes five KREON figures and 540 brick pieces. (Ages 6 & up/Approx. Retail Price: $69.99/Available: 2013)
If we're lucky we might get to see more of Hasbro's Star Trek range from the Toy Fair. Although I wouldn't be surprised if a lot is kept under wraps.

Inside the Kre-O Enterprise

Hasbro have their Kre-O USS Enterprise model on display at the Comic Con, and are showing of its bridge-in-the-saucer feature:

They also have a life-size Captain Kirk Kreon figure:

Images above are from Collider. Toy News International and Toyark have a few more views too.

First look at the Kre-o USS Enterprise

StarTrek.com have posted the first look at one of Hasbro's Star Trek Kre-O sets, the USS Enterprise:

Yikes! I know from experience that the curvy and rounded shapes of Starfleet ships can be a challenge for Lego (or Lego-like) building, and the extra curviness of the new timeline Enterprise probably doesn't help. But I can't say you've drawn me to the not-Lego dark side with that one Hasbro (makes the Mega Bloks Enterprise-D look quite decent at least...).

I am impressed though by their awesome teaser trailer animation, based on the original 2009 movie teaser trailer, showing the Enterprise under construction (pay attention to the awesome variant of the Bad Robot logo at the end):

This is itself just a tease for a Kre-O Star Trek animated short that is on the way from Bad Robot, telling an original Star Trek story in Kre-O form.

New look at Star Trek Kre-O figures

Collider have posted a new preview image of Hasbro's Star Trek Kre-O figures. Much as I hate to support a Lego knock-off brand, I cant deny begin quite excited to see what the actual construction sets are like (even if these things are poor replacements for proper Lego minifigures).

Hasbro to produce Star Trek toys

Hasbro has announced a new licensing deal to produce Star Trek toys! The line will launch next year, to tie in with the release of the next movie. You can read their full press release on the 8of5 Archive, but the important part is this bit, describing what they have planned:
Leading the product offering from Hasbro will be a line of premium KRE-O STAR TREK building sets featuring fantastical spaceships and legendary characters from the franchise. The KRE-O STAR TREK sets will offer high-quality KRE-O bricks as well as new KREON figures in the likeness of popular characters. Among its additional new play experiences, Hasbro will also offer robust line of roleplay toys for kids and fans to act out the intergalactic saga as well as select new figures.
Hasbro replacing Playmates as the Star Trek toy maker I think is pretty exciting. But I'm disappointed to see that includes Star Trek Kre-o sets, as Kre-o is Hasbro's newish Lego rip-off (launched a year or so ago with Transformers sets), and I just can't stand Lego that isn't Lego. Oh well, Lord of the Rings had a range in Playmate's Intelli-blox before Lego managed to get it, so maybe after Mega Blok's brief attempt at Star Trek a few years ago, Kre-o is a detour on Trek's own path to full Lego glory (I can dream!). Toy News International posted this first preview of the Kreon Star Trek figures:
