DST's Romulan Bird of Prey, Khan Select figure, and more

A round up of Diamond Select Toys latest Star Trek offerings today, starting with a new ship in their Starship Legends range of electronic starship models: Due out next month is the Romulan Bird of Prey, which is only the second non-Starfleet ship in the series so far (following the Klingon Bird of Prey). DST recently tweeted a new photo of the model, which revealed an exciting and attractive new feature, the ship will have window lighting!

Doesn't she look pretty lit-up! The Bird of Prey is also expected to have sound features, and DST have released a couple of new images of the model better lit too:

Khan, USS Reliant, Minimates and more on the way from DST

At last week's New York Toy Fair Diamond Select Toys revealed several new Star Trek toys they have in the works, including a new action figure, a new ship, and the return of Star Trek Minimates. Continue below for all the details.

Khan was only recently announced as the subject of DST's fifth Star Trek Select figure, and now they have revealed him in all his glory. The Star Trek Select line typically features semi-sculptural figures in a diorama setting, and this time we're getting the movie-era Khan with the bridge chair from the Reliant. These figures often come with parts to allow multiple display options, and Khan will have several arms, as well as alternate legs to allow him to sit in the chair. The alternate legs weren't on display, but the arms were, and were switched around over the course of the show, so below you can see him with both crossed arms and a pointy finger!

DST's new ships

Diamond Select Toys have announced a couple of new ships via StarTrek.com. The two new variants of previous releases are to be available almost immediately apparently. There's the HMS Bounty version of the Klingon Bird of Prey, which includes the ship's landing gear, has "HMS Bounty" written on the hull, and also features The Voyage Home specific sounds. This is the fourth version of the Bird of Prey (following the partially cloaked, and cloaked variants). This is the second release with landing gear; the very limited edition cloaked version also had that feature:

There's also a fourth variant of the Minimates USS Enterprise, this time we've ditched Kirk (who has so far appeared in yellow, green with tribbles, or mirror universe style) in favour of Captain Pike:

DST also recently posted their latest ship dates; they list the following expected release dates for forthcoming Star Trek products:

DST update: Select figures and Minimates

Diamond Select Toys have announced another new Toys'r'us exclusive product; coming soon will be the Kirk and Spock figures from the Star Trek Select range, offered at Toys'r'us with new bases which join up to make a little diorama. The bases come in place of the large pieces of scenery and mass of other accessories (including secondary characters) which come with the more widely distributed Select versions of the figures. Here are images of the packaging, and an an out of the box shot of both figures on the bases:

DST also posted some photos of the full feature Select figures in action, on their Facebook page. Check out a few highlights after the jump, as well as the latest images of the new Star Trek Minimates range:

More Trek Minimates, and the latest packaging from DST

Star Trek Minimates are back this year, with the release of at least three versions of the Minimates USS Enterprise ship next month, and a new series of two-packs, Star Trek Legacy Series One, coming later in the year. In addition to the four two packs in the standard Legacy range, there will be four more sets coming exclusively to Toys'r'us, and Action Figure Insider have released the first decent images of all the figures in that range.

We have Kirk and Khan, TOS style:

Picard and Hugh the Borg:

Sisko and Dukat:

And Janeway and Seven of Nine:

They also posted images of the packaging for these:

Also relaunching this year is DST's larger Star Trek action figure range, reborn in the form of Star Trek Select; where each semi-posable figure (or figures) come with diorama base, and interchangeable parts to create different actions. DST have released photos of the packaging for the first figure in the range, Spock and the Horta:

Kirk and Khan will be following shortly after Spock, with Picard and a Borg coming later in the year.

DST updates

StarTrek.com has posted new images of forthcoming Diamond Select Toys releases, including this first look at the Star Trek Select Picard figure:

Picard will be coming in the autumn, following the launch of the Star Trek Select line with Kirk and Khan and Spock and the Horta, due next month. StarTrek.com also suggest DST's new First Contact variant of their USS Enterprise-E model is coming out next month. Can you spot the differences in the paint job from the Nemesis version?

Also due out next month is the Minimates USS Enterprise, the DST Facebook page posted this photo demonstrating the plastic insert tray for the packaging of the mirror universe version:

Minimates, breeding like tribbles

Due next month is the Minimates USS Enterprise. We already knew about a mirror universe variant, and now Diamond Select Toys have announced a third version of this ship, exclusive to Action Figure Express; this time coming with a bunch of tribbles. The ship itself appears to be the same as the standard version, but it comes with a different Kirk figure, this time in his green tunic:

This is the third Minimates Kirk release in the green tunic, he is also available, with a slightly different face, in a two-pack with Yeoman Rand, and was issued as another tribble exclusive back when Minimates were slightly less mini. Here's an image from A Piece of the Action's excellent article on the original Star Trek Minimates, comparing the previous green Kirks:

In other Minimates news, Diamond have also revealed the final pair of figures coming in the Star Trek Legacy range, posting an image on their Facebook page. Here are TOS Kirk and Khan; the only characters not displayed at the Toy Fair, from the eight pairs of Minimates coming between the regular and Toys'r'us collections:

More DST updates

Just a few days ago I brought you news of the new Entertainment Earth exclusive mirror universe version of the Minimates USS Enterprise. Now DST have officially announced that, and released a bunch of new images to mark the occasion. So have a better look at this curious new version of the Enterprise and its brutal commander:

DST have also recently posted their latest Q and A relating to Star Trek, giving us a few hints at the future of their model starship line: Answers included suggestions that the performance of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey will determine if there will be any more alien ships (come ooon Romulan Warbird), and noting a second Klingon ship isn't currently on their to-do list. They also mentioned they have a short list of three ships after they do the USS Excelsior, and that list includes the USS Defiant, but not the USS Enterprise-C.

Check out the full Q and A, for all the answers to readers' questions regarding ships, props, and the retro cloth line. Today DST also posted their latest ship dates, and as ever things have moved around, plus, some new items coming later in the year now have dates:

Mirror Mimimates Enterprise

Due out in May is the new Minimates USS Enterprise model ship, with the mini bridge in the saucer and the hinge opening deflector dish granting access to a "jeffries tube". Now Entertainment Earth have announced they will be releasing an exclusive mirror universe variant alongside the prime version, complete with little nacelle spires, a bigger deflector, and other mirror universe detailing. Plus it comes with mirror-Kirk. There has been a mirror-Kirk Minimate before, when DST released a mirror-5-pack; this new one looks a bit more angry:

Now they've got the bits to make a pilot version of the Enterprise in this form, I wonder if a Pike variant might follow sometime too.

DST have also recently posted their latest shipping dates; as ever things have moved around again. They've also added reissues of both of the new starship models released this year, so hopefully that bodes well for their success, and for future model starships! Here's when they currently expect their latest Star Trek stuff to appear in the next few months:

DST's Toy Fair reveals

Star Trek toys stalwart, Diamond Select Toys, was another of the Star Trek licensors at Toy Fair the past weekend, and used it to show several new items coming from them.

A check list of the previous Star Trek Minimates
Last month they announced the relaunch of the Star Trek Minimates line with Star Trek Legacy Minimates Series 1, which had they had on display along some more new Trek Minimates! These additional characters will be Toys'r'us exclusives in North America. On show were:
  • Picard and a Borg drone, which have been released as a Minimates two-pack before, however both characters are new designs; a different Borg drone, and Picard in his jacket uniform.
  • Sisko and Dukat, which have also been released as Minimates before, but again are new designs this time.
  • Janeway and Seven of Nine, which will be the first ever Voyager Minimates!
According to DST on Facebook the TRU exclusive series will be finished off with a fourth pairing; TOS Kirk and Khan, the younger companions to the Wrath of Khan versions in the non-exclusive series. Here's what the three pairs on display look like (images via Action Figure Insider):

Also on display was some artwork for some new items. DST's new Star Trek Select range of action figure/sculptures/dioramas is set to launch later this year with the release of the Spock and Horta, and Kirk vs Khan sets. A third release appears to be planned in the form of a Picard figure, firing his phaser while standing over a fallen Borg drone:

Also on display was artwork for a Spock money box, fascinating...:

Finally, so far as new stuff goes, they had the Project Cutaway USS Enterprise on display, giving us a chance to see how they've cut into the saucer section:

Project Cutaway Enteprise finally revealed, plus new Minimates, and, rocks...

A little over a year ago I reported on the first tantalising tease of a new cut-away model of the USS Enterprise coming from Dragon Models. Then we heard nothing, until now! StarTrek.com report Diamond Select Toys will apparently be releasing this impressive model, which looks like this:

The 18" pre-painted model is expected to retail for $174.99!

StarTrek.com have also revealed a new range of Star Trek Minimates! We already new the new Minimates styled USS Enterprise model was on the way, but now it seems that was just the start of a relaunch of the range which will see an impressively diverse range of Star Trek characters. Not just TOS, or even TNG, but also DS9 and Enterprise too! Including the first ever figure of a Xindi (who thought we'd ever see new Enterprise toys again!?). Star Trek Legacy Minimates series one will consist of the following two-packs:
  • Admiral Kirk and Khan, from The Wrath of Khan.
  • Captain Picard and the Borg Queen, from First Contact.
  • Captain Sisko (season seven) and Jem Hadar, from DS9.
  • Captain Archer and Xindi (Commander Dolim?), from Enterprise.

And finally, the latest innovative new product from DST is, a rock... I'll let StarTrek.com describe the "Star Trek Enterprise Rock Art":
Yes, this is exactly what it sounds like; a 5.5” rock slab has been painstakingly emblazoned with a full-color image of the Enterprise. The Rock Art is accompanied by a display stand for desktop or shelf display. It will cost $29.99.

The latest from DST

Diamond Select Toys have officially announced their new Star Trek Minimates USS Enterprise vehicle (first spotted back in February). Here's how they describe it:
A Diamond Select Release! Designed and Sculpted by Art Asylum! Star Trek Minimates return! After a long absence, DST is bringing back Trek Minimates with their most spectacular Minimates vehicle yet -- the starship Enterprise! With an opening cockpit and a hidden Jeffries tube in the engineering section, the ship measures 10 inches long and includes an exclusive Minimate of Captain Kirk.

Meanwhile Forbidden Planet have added a listing for DST's latest Star Trek prop, the Klingon disruptor, which has been working it's way from DST since at least 2010! Forbidden Planet suggest a December release, just shortly after DST's new Klingon Bird-of-Prey.
