Lower Decks finally coming to the rest of the world. Plus cool behind the scenes artwork from the series.

Lower Decks is finally coming to viewers outside of the US and Canada! CBS have at last announced Amazon Prime Video(ad) will be the new come of the animated comedy Star Trek series in Europe, Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand, "and more". All ten episodes of the first season will arrive on the 22nd of January in 2021.

Continue below for more Lower Decks updates.

Amazon, which is also the home of Picard for most of the world, have released the trailer for the series with their own branding; if you want a reminder, or if you steadfastly avoided US spoilers until now!

Some other Lower Decks updates: Check out this montage of Shaxs-ness drawn by series director Barry J. Kelly:

Shaxs in a different mood (!) also features in storyboard artist Marvin Britt's "archived doodles I drew instead of working on my assignments":

Some super cool imagery comes care of several of Lower Decks' background artists, who have now shared some of their work from the series on online portfolios. In many cases these give us expanded views of the framing used in the show, or clearer views of backgrounds that were behind moments of action or had "camera" moves around the image.

Here's a selection from Breanna Cheek's website, where you can also find work from other animated series and projects:

And here's an even bigger range from Yudi Chen, who again also has lots of other work to see from other animation, illustration, and design projects.

This first image is interesting, showing the surface of Mixtus III from the episode Cupid's Errant Arrow; I don't think (as far as I can tell from screencaps, being UK based), this shot made it into the episode. Chen also identifies Vindicta's (holo-evil Mariner) ship as the Vinpocalypse, and shows us a slightly different design for the USS Cerritos!

Another background artist, Shay Klassen, also had a great gallery up on her website, but repeatedly requests images not be taken out of that context, so make sure you go and see her work right there!

Finally, if you ever fancied a bit of Tendi-arriving-on-the-Cerritos cosplay, you can now get your very own cylindrical USS Cerritos duffel bag(ad)!

Lower Decks is available on CBS All Access(ad) in the USA, and Bell Media channels in Canada, and as we now know, very soon on Amazon Prime Video(ad) in much of the rest of the world.
