Discovery renewed for second season, plus episode 7 trailer

CBS have officially announced Discovery will be continuing into a second season.

A rather bland business case type statement has also been released:
In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise,” said Marc DeBevoise, President and Chief Operating Officer, CBS Interactive, referring to the fact that Discovery set new CBS All Access records for subscriber sign-ups in a single day, week and month. “This series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the Star Trek legacy. We are extremely proud of what they’ve accomplished and are thrilled to be bringing fans a second season of this tremendous series.
They've not yet announced dates, but talking to The Hollywood Reporter a while back, co-creator Alex Kurtzman suggested a second season would likely not arrive until early 2019.

Meanwhile, the current season continues, and here's the trailer for the seventh episode, Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad:

With a Groundhog Day style story promised, this episode is sure to pack in a lot, with much of it likely to be wiped from the record once the time loop is resolved. So don't be too alarmed to see the USS Discovery explode, and explode, and explode...

What else will be wiped from history by the end of the episode? The party where Burnham and Tyler make out?

Harry Mudd returns too (does he cause this all, or just gets stuck in the middle of it?), apparently arriving wearing a amusingly ridiculous helmet while traveling inside a giant space creature!

He takes up residence in engineering:

And I'm pretty sure that's him shooting Lorca:

Understandably Lorca's not a happy bunny:

Stamets seems to be the one to unravel the timeline here. Surely connected to his connection to the spore drive?

Also, mysterious purple balls! Which look like they're a weapon based on that purple glow:

Finally, here are a few clips from the latest episode, Lethe:

Star Trek: Discovery will continue weekly, and it will be distributed almost everywhere in the world on Netflix, except for the US where is will be available on CBS All Access, and Canada where it will be on Bell Media channels and services. That helmet that Mudd is wearing looks like an Andorian one, because it has little hollow bits for the antennae. That's my two cents anyways.

Well, more episodes means more opportunities for Kurzman to leave the show and the writing to improve, so good news?
