Year Five #14: Guide of Fire, part 2 preview

Out this week is issue 14 of IDW's TOS: Year Five comic, part-two of the Klingon-focused story Guide of Fire.

The book features some spectacularly dynamic artwork from Angel Hernandez, with lots of reds from colourist Fran Gamboa, and a story that pays off almost every TOS Klingon episode, from writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, who once again deliver another compelling chapter in what is easily one of the best Star Trek comic series ever written.

The usual cover artists for the series give us two cover options. Either the main cover by Stephen Thompson and colourist Charlie Kirchoff, featuring a bloodied Kirk. Or the retail incentive cover from JJ Lendl, the latest in their travel poster series, inviting you to visit the Klingon Empire, or to wait for their invasion to bring it to you!

Continue below to check out those, a five page preview from the book, and details of the latest omnibus from the series.

You can continue reading the rest of the book by picking up a copy at your local comic book shop (if they're open right now), or from online retailers like these: AmazonEbayThings From Another WorldForbidden PlanetBarnes and Noble.

Or, if you can wait until May 2021, the third omnibus book for the Year Five series, Weaker Than Man, has now started to come up for pre-orders. It will include this issue and several flowing, and features new cover artwork, which looks like a future JJ Lendl cover for an upcoming issue:

Here's the blurb, which gives some hints at future issues:
Join the crew of the original Starship Enterprise in these all-new adventures near the end of their five-year mission.

The Enterprise and her crew finally make it back to Federation space, but the Federation they find isn't quite the same as the one they had left behind! Kirk grapples with a very personal Klingon threat, even as the Enterprise begins its homecoming victory tour, and the Federation's upcoming presidential election is upended when Harry Mudd enters the race!

All this against the backdrop of a sinister malaise threatening to rot the Federation from within. Terrible secrets are revealed, among them the origin of Gary Seven and the grand designs of the shadowy AEGIS organization. Can Kirk and the Enterprise crew excise this corruption, or will the five-year mission end in failure?

Collects issues #13-19 of the ongoing series by writers Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Jody Houser, and Jim McCann with artists Angel Hernandez, Silvia Califano, and J.K. Woodward.
