First look at Discovery's USS Enterprise uniforms and sets in new behind the scenes video

CBS have released a new behind the scenes video, giving us our first look at new uniforms, sets, and characters from the second season of Discovery. Continue below to check it out, and for a closer look at all the new stuff!

The Youtube version is geo-locked as ever, so if you wanting to watch from elsewhere, Instagram comes to the rescue, albeit cropped to square.

There's lot of new stuff to see here, I think most excitingly though is the reveal of the new uniforms for USS Enterprise personnel, which just as described David Mack's Discovery novel Desperate Hours are distinct from the fleet at large, and more in line with what we know of the TOS era. They've been given an update of course, with piping details around the shoulder similar to the normal Discovery-era uniforms, and the insignia badges as separate metal(lic) props - Those badges are however the classic delta rather than split design we've seen so far in Discovery.

We also get our first tease at the new Captain Pike, in his own yellow uniform:

We get glimpses at some new sets. This large two-floored set could maybe be the "Section 31 bridge/lab" labelled in the blueprints also scene?

L'Rell get's a set of her own too, with sections labelled as chambers and gardens:

And at least some of the Starfleet locations seen are aboard the Enterprise, per the logo on the sceen in this image:

We've got some aliens:

And some general behind the scenes stuff, highlighting executive producer Alex Kurtzman in the director's chair as well for the first episode of season two (as revealed by Variety recently):

We've also had some other directorial news recently, with TrekFM's Justin Oser reporting from the El Paso Comic Con that Jonathan Frakes will be directing episodes two and ten of season two. Also revealed was that younger versions of both Burnham and Spock would appear in flashbacks in that second episode.

Finally, there has also been some extra casting news recently, with Entertainment Tonight reporting that comedian and actor Tig Notaro set to play Chief Engineer Denise Reno of the USS Hiawatha.

  1. 3F-125, the room Burnham is walking into, were Spock's quarters in TOS.
