Another version of the new Into Darkness trailer!

There are already a smattering of extra scenes in the various international trailers for Star Trek Into Darkness released yesterday, and now the Bad Robot twitter has released another version to the world.



Aside from captioning on-screen which identifies London, and the Starfleet Headquarters sky-scrappers, my eyes only detect one new sequence, but it's quite an interesting bit. What looks like the engineering section of starship explodes, blowing many members of the crew into space, while the ship appears to be at warp:

 

 

 

There is a shot in all the variations of the trailer showing an explosion on the exterior of what might be a starship (impulse engine center top?), but not the Enterprise. Could this be the same ship? Maybe the same ship we see crashing?

Attack Wing update

A few more bits about Neca's new Wizkids Star Trek game, Attack Wing, have arisen since I first posted about it. A french games site, Jedisjeus, posted this image of a couple more ships in the game, while TrekMovie released a mock-up of how ships will be packaged::

But the most fun comes from Wizkids Facebook page, where they've been posting pictures of the giant version of the game they've been playing wtih in demonstrations at the GAMA convention this week:

 

Tribbles coming from QMx

QMx have announced in their latest email newsletter, that this summer they will be releasing tribbles into the world. They will come in little specimen containers, so if you're careful, and don't feed them, you should be safe from a tribble plague upon your house.

The QMx twitter account also recently posted a comic strip based on their Trekkies version of Star Trek, which also featured a tribble:

QMx aren't the only ones in the tribble business, Diamond Select Toys are also re-releasing their electronic purring (or screaming) and wriggling tribbles this summer. It will be interesting to see if the QMx versions offer anything different (make them climb walls? come with litter of baby tribbles inside??).

Romulans coming to Star Trek Online

Cryptic have been teasing they're up to something with the Romulans in Star Trek Online for a few weeks now, and today they have revealed what: Launching on the 21st of May will be, Legacy of Romulus, the latest update of the game which includes the launch of a third playable faction in STO, the Romulans. Here's the in-universe story for the Romulans, and the trailer:

Romulus and Remus are gone. You are one of the survivors, struggling to survive in the aftermath of unspeakable destruction.

These are dark and dangerous times for your people, as the Tal Shiar crack down on any dissent and mysterious beings unleash terror throughout the far-flung colony worlds.

You will be the one to reshape an empire. Gather allies, go undercover and find the proof that will rally your people to revolt.

Together, you will rise up against an oppressive regime and demand freedom. You will fight for your people.

You are the Legacy of Romulus.

Romulan Republic players will be able to take on either Romulan or Reman characters. No news yet whether the new faction will absorb any other species - The current Klingon faction for instance includes Orions, Gorn, and Nausicaan, among others.

There will of course be lots of new Romulan ships, already previewed are the Enterprise and TOS birds of prey, and the D'deridex and Valdore class warbirds. There are also some new designs in the trailer, as well as, I think, the Romulan shuttle seen in DS9 once. There aren't that may more canon designs to pull from (D7, science/scout ship, Scimitar, Scorpion, drone, Narada), so I'd imagine most of what's available will appear too. The Romulan ships will apparently have some capabilities unique to their design with the promise to "unleash the new and devastating powers of the Singularity Core".

 

There will be new Romulan focuses stories, including the return of Denise Crosby, this time voicing Empress Sela.

There's also to be a new adversary, which are dubbed The Silent Enemy in their section of the Romulan preview site:

Uncover the horrifying truth behind a mysterious new enemy that seeks to terrorize the Beta Quadrant and exterminate your people.

Between that title, and the new ship designs I can't help but hope this is a follow-up to the mysterious aliens seen in Enterprise's Silent Enemy.

Though that may be very wishful thinking, as there's also this concept art for alien drones in the same sort of colour pallet as the new ships:

There will also be a new reputation mission featuring the Tholians

It's not all about Romulans, the update will also mean pleayers can start from level one as a Klingon as well (previously you had to play Federation until 25), there's also an update to the user interface.

Finally, for some reason also featured on the preview site for this expansion is a bit of concept art for a new insect...

New International theatrical trailer and poster for Star Trek Into Darkness

This morning the latest trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness was released, the international theatrical trailer, which has lots of new stuff to enjoy over it's 2:15 running time. Here is the UK version, it's also been released in localised versions for Australia, Germany, Mexico, Russia, and Brazil - Which are quite fun to watch just to experience all the different dubbing. There are a few extra shots in the various international versions, but only little character reaction shots; nothing as telling as that scene added to the Japanese version of the first trailer.



Paramount have also released a new poster, which seems to aimed firmly at the action audience, rather than including any sci-fi elements:

Glimpses from Ships of the Line 2014

Contributors to next year's Ships of the Line calendar have now submitted their pieces, and so now the months of teasing us starship lovers begin! John Eaves has posted an especially nice section of his entry, which is a painting of the Enterprise-E. After giving us a look inside the saucer shuttle bay in the 2011 calendar we're getting to see (for the first time maybe?) inside the engineering hull hanger:

Meanwhile Mark Rademaker, who has already teased us with a couple of samples from his new ship in the calendar, has posted this further little snippet on twitter, revealing a somewhat familiar name:

More DST updates

Just a few days ago I brought you news of the new Entertainment Earth exclusive mirror universe version of the Minimates USS Enterprise. Now DST have officially announced that, and released a bunch of new images to mark the occasion. So have a better look at this curious new version of the Enterprise and its brutal commander:

DST have also recently posted their latest Q and A relating to Star Trek, giving us a few hints at the future of their model starship line: Answers included suggestions that the performance of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey will determine if there will be any more alien ships (come ooon Romulan Warbird), and noting a second Klingon ship isn't currently on their to-do list. They also mentioned they have a short list of three ships after they do the USS Excelsior, and that list includes the USS Defiant, but not the USS Enterprise-C.

Latest nuTrek images

TrekMovie report a new trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness will be released online tonight at 12:00am Pacific time. While we wait for that, TrekMovie were also the first two post the two latest official stills, in which Kirk, Spock, and John Harrison all look a bit grumpy:

 

Here I think we may have the meaning of the title, it's all about everyone wearing black!

TrekMovie have also releases oodles of new screencaps from Star Trek: The Video Game. Here are a few of the new Gorn:

Latest Star Trek mobile bits

A couple of weeks ago StarTrek.com revealed a new range of accessories for mobile devices. They used digital mock-ups to show them off, but now Amazon have posted photos of the real things, and they look much more appealing! They are also, despite StarTrek.com's assertion that they would be UK exclusive, readily available on Amazon.com.

The biggest improvement from digital to real is the Starfleet delta USB stick, which is much thinner in the real world, and looks much better for it!

You can also get a much better idea of the functionality of the tablet bag, which has a shoulder strap as well as a hand hold. Here's the blue version, is also comes in yellow:

 

Not such a revelation in the design of the iphone case, but here they are to complete the set (they come in blue or yellow for iphone 5, but just yellow for iphone 4):

And here's a tenuous link: While you're out and about with your mobiles and tablets you might also find an extra portable water bottle handy too hmm? Well you're in luck, Vandor have added a collapsible water bottle to their Star Trek range. I use one of these (a Platypus one) pretty much every day; they're great because they squash into whichever bit of your bag you need it to, as opposed to solid bottles which are huge and in the way! And it's much more sustainable to use tap water (at least 1000 times less the carbon footprint than buying bottled water says How Bad Are Bananas?), so surely a good step to take towards a Star Trek like future!

This "bonus" set appears to be about the same size as the range of micro build starships in the main Kre-O range.
