In addition to those, Mega Bloks are also launching a new range of brick built figurines, called Kubros. This series will pull from many of Mega Bloks' licensed brands, including Halo, Terminator, Masters of the Universe, Assassins Creed, Aliens, Power Ranges, Minions, and of course Star Trek,
At the recent New York Toy Fair they revealed Star Trek characters in this series will include TNG's Worf and Captain Picard. But before them, the first series of Kubros features a TOS character, Spock, who along with the other first series characters from other franchises is now available to order directly from Mega Bloks' online shop, making him the first release of the new Star Trek assortments. Of course that means Mega Bloks have also released lots of images to show off this blocky Mr Spock.
Apparently a signature element of the Kubros series will be a metallic stud on the foot of each character.
And each figurine, delivered as a pile of bricks, comes in an appropriately cuboid box.
Here's Mega Bloks' description of the Kubros Spock:
It’s an 8-Bit invasion when you build and collect your favorite pop culture icons with Kubros! Now you can build your own Spock figure block by block, complete with iconic details drawn from the original Star Trek character. Featuring the signature Vulcan hair and blue uniform, this collectible figure brings it back to the old school with a blocky shape and retro-fied design inspired by the era of classic gaming. With its signature coin detail on the foot, and arms and head that move, you can pose your Spock figure different ways for a showcase-worthy display. Collect all your favorite characters from movies, video games and more, and build your fandom with Kubros! If seeing photos isn't enough, Mega Bloks have also released a bunch of renderings of the build. And if you really want to scrutinise the construction, you can also download the building instructions!
Mega Bloks have also recently released a new image of their forthcoming Klingon D7 class battle cruiser set, which along with the other TOS sets is due out in the autumn.
Meanwhile if you make your way to the Mega Bloks website, you can find a Star Trek micro site, which includes a video examining the details of their huge class USS Enterprise set. You can also find a listing of all the Star Trek Mega Bloks sets on Trek Collective Lists.
The D-7 looks better than the Eaglemoss one!
ReplyDeleteThat Spock figure is awful. Lego really need to get their hands on a Star Trek license.
ReplyDeleteIf these aren't going to be freely available across the globe (I live in the UK) then that sucks and Lego should definitely get the licence.
ReplyDeleteDavid: Mega Bloks is quite widely distributed in the UK, and having recently been acquired by Mattel, one of the biggest toy companies in the world, I would think it should have pretty good global distribution. Being a bit of a Lego purist I tend not to pay much attention to knock-off brands, so I'm not sure how comprehensive UK distribution of all the Mega Bloks lines is. A bigger issue might be that retailers don't tend to stock Star Trek stuff!
ReplyDeleteDoug: Awful in what sense? They are going for an intentionally stylised look, akin to Funko's Pop! vinyl figures. And from a construction toy point of view there are some quite creative parts and building techniques there.
