The Spectrum War #3 preview, and other nuTrek comics updates

Out this week is issue three in the nuTrek/Green Lantern crossover comic series, The Spectrum War, which approaching the middle of the six-part story is starting to pull in more characters from the DC side of the inter-reality event.

Written by nuTrek regular Mike Johnson, with art by Angel Hernandez, this issue has three different covers: The A cover by Tony Shasteen, B cover by Rachael Stott, with colours by Davide Mastrolonardo, and the subscription cover by Garry Brown, coloured by Doug Garbark. You can see all three, and a five-page preview from this issue, continuing below, as well as other updates from IDW's various nuTrek comics:

You can continue reading this story by picking up a copy at your local comic book shop, or from online retails like these: Amazon.comThings From Another WorldForbidden PlanetiTunes.

Meanwhile, due next week is the third printing of issue one from the series, which will be sporting another variant of the main cover from that issue, bringing the total up to twenty-eight distinct variants for that book!

The other nuTrek adventures continue in the ongoing series, and the tenth omnibus book from that series is also due out this week. Amazon have also recently added a listing for the eleventh omnibus, which is due in February. Volume ten includes the stories Behemoth and Eurydice, while eleven will follow with The Tholian Webs and Deity, plus the one-shot prime-timeline medical crossover, Flesh and Stone!

The third nuTrek series on the way at the end of this year is Starfleet Academy, which will feature both the Enterprise crew in their Academy days, and a new class of Starfleet recruits. At the Star Trek Las Vegas convention last month IDW previewed those new characters, and handily some of the attendees snapped some shots of the presentation (the images below come via Jarrah Hodge and nextgenhouse):

Writer Mike Johnson also discussed the series on J.K.'s Happy Hour, a podcast hosted by Star Trek artist J.K. Woodward. One of interesting things brought up is how Uhura will be the central character:
Remember Kirk and Spock didn't know each other in the JJ-verse Academy. But Uhura knew Kirk, and Uhura knows Spock, so she's the lead character in our Academy story. And then we see the others through the prism of her relationships with them...
Johnson also spoke about ongoing, the Green Lantern crossover, and other comics he is currently working on, so there's much more to hear if you listen to the full podcast.

Finally, on Twitter, IDW editor Sarah Gaydos also shared this section of an alternative cover for the first issue in the Starfleet Academy series, this artwork by Elsa Charretier.
